Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When the Demogorgon breaks through into the Wheeler household, Holly is able to hide, with her mother, in what spot?

Answer: The bathtub

As the Demogorgon breaks through the portal it's created in Holly's bedroom ceiling, Holly screams for help to no avail; while her father hits golf balls outside, her mother pours a bubble bath to the sound of ABBA's "Fernando". Holly is able to get out of the creature's grip before it can pull her through the gate to the other side, and when she does, she races to her mother's bedroom and finds her nonethewiser. Karen only believes her when she finds her daughter is bleeding from the back of her head. Outside, Ted catches wind when he notices the lights start to flicker-- another sign something is about to occur.

At the same time, Nancy and El speed through Hawkins in an attempt to get home and save Nancy's family while Mike and Lucas bike over from the MAC-Z with little time to spare.

As the Demogorgon breaks into the bathroom, it finds that Holly and Karen are missing; it isn't aware that the two are hiding, holding their breath in the tub, underneath the bubbles in the bath. They're able to stay there until Ted calls for them, entering the house with a golf club in-hand.
2. Who enters the Upside Down in pursuit of Holly and the Demogorgon?

Answer: Eleven

When Ted steps into the house and finds all of the lights flickering, he realizes something is amiss, but it's just enough time for Karen and Holly to surface and take a breath. He ends up encountering the Demogorgon in the bedroom and though he's able to strike it with a golf club, it proves much stronger, tossing him through the wall into the other room.

Karen and Holly race by and down the stairs, encountering the Demogorgon again as they try to leave out the front door, and in their rush to get through the kitchen, Karen slips on the tiles. They find themselves cut off from the exit as Karen takes her empty wine bottle, smashes it on the countertop, and uses it to attack the creature.

Nancy and El arrive at the house to find they're just too late. Her mother, gashed several times by the Demogorgon, is still alive on the kitchen floor. Holly has been taken.

As Nancy looks across the room, she sees the portal in the wall leading to their house in the Upside Down and she tells El to head in after her. As Nancy tells her mother to hold on and El steps through, the gate seals behind.
3. Lucas acknowledges that they're coming up on which noteworthy event?

Answer: The anniversary of the day Will was taken

Karen and Ted are picked up by the paramedics and Nancy, Mike, and Lucas accompany them to the hospital terrified of the danger that their secrets brought upon their family. They wait in a quiet reception room as Nancy blames herself; she believes they could've gotten them out of Hawkins or told them the truth before any of this happened. Mike rationalizes that they couldn't have known this would happen-- especially not to Holly-- but Nancy was shown this in her vision. Vecna has come back to punish them.

Lucas disagrees with their take. Vecna left the Wheelers alive, and even in Holly's case, he never came to Hawkins and took her himself; he sent one of the Demogorgons. None of them know the answers to all their questions. But there is something bothering him, specifically the fact that it's three days until the anniversary of Will's disappearance, years ago. It can't be a coincidence.

The Wheeler household, meanwhile, is investigated not only by the local police, but the military as well. While Lt. Col. Sullivan walks through the kitchen looking at the scene of the event, he asks his Lt. to pull up all surveillance footage within two miles of the house. The remnants of a sealed portal on their back door gives him a sense of obvious concern. It could have something to do with Eleven.

In the Upside Down, El wanders the streets and follows the sounds of screams into the woods only to find Hopper who, while surprised to see her, realizes he can't stop her from following Holly's trail.
4. Robin's theory is that Will acts like which of these, in relation to Vecna and his powers?

Answer: A radio tower

At the Squawk, Robin and Joyce worry on about the massive electric issue that happened when Will had his most recent vision. While Robin heads out to find new fuses, Joyce takes the opportunity to talk to her son, worrying about the intensity of his new powers. He admits that this time was different because it felt like he could think like and see through the eyes of the Demogorgon. He doesn't know why one would have gone after the Wheelers, but he must've tapped back into the hive mind, even if they feel like they severed that connection.

The feeling went away when they went to California, but they day after they got back, it came back worse.

Robin suggests that maybe Will is like a magical, human version of a radio receiver, as silly as it sounds. When he's close to Vecna, he can pick up the signal. Will realizes that this might be a way for them to find Holly, but Joyce won't have it; she won't let him risk his life.
5. Who comes across Jonathan and Steve while they attempt to jump-start the battery of their van?

Answer: Dustin

Steve and Jonathan end up trying to jump-start their van from a kind local (who isn't too thrilled with Steve) and Steve, considering putting their hunt for Hopper on hold, suggests that they stop by the hospital and bring Nancy some flowers considering everything that's gone on in the evening. Jonathan is incensed by the idea, arguing that he wishes Steve would give up the exhausting competition between the two of them for just one night. Steve doesn't really think it's his problem though; every since they got back from California, Jonathan's been acting like a paranoid, pothead weirdo who can't focus on Nancy.

Just before Steve and Jonathan detach the jumpers from the battery, they're met by Dustin, bruised and bloodied, having walked his bike down from the cemetery to find them on the side of the road.

In the Upside Down, Hopper argues that El made a mistake in riding with Nancy instead of taking the tunnels to the Wheeler household because the army is sure to catch her on their cameras. She argues, rightly, that it would've taken too long. And now they have to figure out what to do to wrap up their mission and stop Vecna once and for all because there's no going back. Despite Hopper's belief that El's acting on emotion, she instead says it's instinct as she follows the Demogorgon's blood trail onwards.
6. Which of these books gets Mike thinking about using Holly's imaginary friend as a lead?

Answer: A Wrinkle in Time

Lucas, staying in Max's room playing her Kate Bush tape, relays all the intel he can to her and worries about how difficult the fight ahead is going to be. It's why he begs her to come back; they need the whole party to fight the final battle. He'll take any sign that she's still in there.

In the waiting room, Mike gets a coffee for himself and Nancy and walks back through the halls past the children's ward. It's a book that catches his eye-- a copy of Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time"-- and gets him thinking about the circumstances around Holly's disappearance. He has to ask Nancy if Holly ever talked to her about Mr. Whatsit, her imaginary friend from the book. In the book, Mike notes, it was Mrs. Whatsit; she changed it in the real world.

His theory is that Mr. Whatsit isn't actually theory; he's real. Like Lucas says, nothing can be coincidence, and like Nancy said, they could've done more to stop this. That's why it's a thread to pull. Nancy gets an idea, and it starts with needing Mike to turn on the charm for the receptionist. What they need to do is talk to the only other person Holly would've spoken to about Mr. Whatsit-- their mother.
7. Robin is able to get Will away from Joyce by making up a problem with the radio. She claims that which of these needs to be repaired?

Answer: The flux capacitor

Out on the road, Steve and Jonathan ride around again, hunting for Hopper and Eleven on their antenna, while explaining their failure of a crawl to Dustin. Though Dustin claims he fell off his bike, Steve figures out the truth quite easily, knowing it had to have been Andy and the goons from the basketball team who ambushed him and knocked him out. The pair argue over things that already happened, but neither is willing to admit that they did something wrong. It's Jonathan who tells them to shut up-- he needs to hear the signal from the antenna.

Joyce keeps trying the radio back at the Squawk, meanwhile, failing to get through to Hopper on the other end. To do something different, Robin makes up a lie about the radio (blaming the 'flux capacitor' for their problems, pulls Will upstairs to fix it ("it's a two-man job!"), and suggests that even if they find Hopper, it's not going to help them solve their problems in finding Holly. Robin doesn't need to do much to convince Will; they head out without saying a word.

In the army's Upside Down base, Dr. Kay reviews the surveillance photos brought to her and examines the fact that Eleven is still in Hawkins. The catch is that she's not. Her men make her aware that she's actually with them, in the Upside Down, much to her surprise.
8. While assisting in following the Demogorgon's trail, Hopper is forced to stop, but why?

Answer: To receive first aid

Eleven and Hopper keep following the trail of the Demogorgon until they're forced to stop, not due to any issue with the trail, but because Hopper's bullet wound from earlier in the evening has become too painful on its own. El uses basic first aid to help dress the wound and take care of things before they get worse and it's the perfect opportunity for the pair to finally take stock and chat about their situation. Hopper can't help but reflect on the fact that he and Eleven are so similar to one another. He reminds her that she will need to make sure she doesn't get overwhelmed forgetting what she needs to be doing; she can't always run off raw emotion.

El gets Hopper to admit that he's worried she'll die and that Vecna will win. He doesn't want to lose her like he lost Sara. And he won't. He just needs her to listen to him following this trail. And for that, he'll lead.

At the hospital, Nancy and Mike finally speak to the doctor responsible for Karen's surgery and he refuses to let them in. Even if she were awake, her larynx is damaged; it might be too much risk and strain to have her speak. Motivated even more, Nancy gets an idea, and it involves finding some candy striper outfits.
9. According to Karen, what does Holly believe is Mr. Whatsit's first name?

Answer: Henry

Out on the road, the boys take one more loop around Zone G1 until something happens. While Jonathan can't get a hit on the decoder, he's definitely hearing something. Jonathan reports back to Joyce, nervously listening in from the Squawk, Dustin bursts their bubble, reminding that it isn't the telemetry tag, otherwise it would show up on their tracker. Joyce also uses the opportunity to ask if their issues are being affected by the flux capacitor. Naturally, they don't know what to say to that.

In the Upside Down, Hopper and El come across something that isn't a Demogorgon. Instead, they hit a dead end. The road stops at a colossal, living wall that runs the entire way around Upside Down Hawkins. Finding evidence of Holly on the ground nearby, El reasons that the reason she cant sense her is because she's somewhere on the other side.

At the hospital, with Nancy dressed as a candy striper and Mike dressed as a patient, the two of them are able to navigate unnoticed to their mother's room, arriving to find her worse for wear. Karen is able to awaken, groggily, from her post-surgery medication and, fortunately, while she can't talk, she is able to write. Asking her about Mr. Whatsit, Karen is able to reveal he's a tall man with a vest and a pocketwatch; he's gentle and kind. And his first name is Henry, a name they know all too well.
10. Will comes to determine that his visions are actually linked to which of these?

Answer: Vecna

Will and Robin ride their way out to the woods to where Will had the vision of spinning in the sky, but he doesn't appear to feel any connection to the spot. The pair theorize that if his ability is proximity-based, then the Demogorgon could have been passing by at the time. They might as well push their luck by looking a bit deeper. Robin takes the opportunity to ask if Will saw her with Vickie and she asks that, if he did see anything, he just not bring it up. Fortunately, the awkward chat comes to an end when they find their way to Holly's school. It's where Will needs to be; he realizes he heard the sound of children laughing and playing in his vision.

As the sun starts to rise in Hawkins, Will and Robin reach the schoolyard to find the playground carousel, and he realizes that whatever he saw came from that spinning ride. It means that he's not seeing just what the Demogorgon sees, but whatever Vecna happens to be looking through as part of the hive mind, and when he had his vision, he was entering Holly's mind to make her his next victim. And worse, the rest of her friends are the victims to come.

Will and the others still aren't aware of where Holly's been taken though. As it turns out, Henry Creel has taken her home.
