The Swat RFT was previously in "Black Ops 2". It was basically copied and pasted entirely in this game, with the exact same stats in every single way. It is a perfectly competitive, usable assault rifle in both Multiplayer and Zombies.
2. Daemon 3XB
Answer: Submachine Guns
The Daemon 3XB very closely resembles the Chicom CQB of "Black Ops 2", only it is thankfully much, much better. It does far more damage with the same ridiculous fire rate and excellent cycle speed. It is an excellent choice in both Multiplayer and Zombies.
3. Kap-45
Answer: Secondary Weapons
The Kap-45 is from "Black Ops 2". In Multiplayer, it is the very same force of nature in this game that it was two entries prior. In Zombies is where it sees massive improvement. This weapon was a joke in "Black Ops 2" zombies, but here, it was buffed massively and became pretty great.
It was given a lot more ammunition and its damage was enhanced massively. Additionally, the player can give it excellent attachments such as Rapid Fire in this game to enhance its performance further.
4. Rampage
Answer: Secondary Weapons
This is a fully automatic shotgun. Sadly, its range is poor and its damage is also quite bad as well. It has big clip sizes with a manageable fire rate, but it's bottlenecked into close quarters situations that the damage is a bit underwhelming for. As such, the Rampage is not the best weapon for either Multiplayer or Zombies.
5. Switchblade X9
Answer: Submachine Guns
The Switchblade X9 has a high fire rate and excellent accuracy considering the fire rate. It's shortcoming is damage output, as this is around a 4-5 hit chest shot kill in Multiplayer at a mid range. In Zombies, low damage output makes this a fairly forgettable choice given that it is a Mystery Box exclusive weapon.
6. Tigershark
Answer: Light Machine Guns
The Tigershark shook up the LMG meta on addition big time. It became by far the lightest LMG in the game, making it great for offensive gameplay. It has great accuracy and excellent damage, making it highly adaptable. It does have a slightly sluggish fire rate, but not to a crippling extent. It is an excellent choice in Multiplayer and Zombies.
7. Peacekeeper
Answer: Assault Rifles
The Peacekeeper is nearly copied/pasted from "Black Ops 2", though it differentiates in one major, unfortunate way. In this game, it is an assault rifle, so its ADS move speed is far worse than when it was an SMG in "Black Ops 2". Other than that, it is the exact same weapon.
8. Locus
Answer: Sniper Rifles
The Locus, a fan favorite coming directly from "Black Ops 3", is unfortunately a lot weaker in this game than the third entry. It was nerfed in transition, losing a lot of damage for no beneficial gain. It is difficult to justify using the Locus over the Outlaw in just about any situation, but in Zombies, it is still a solid weapon.
Funnily enough, in Zombies specifically, an auditory bug is tied to the Locus that was ultimately never patched out. If you are playing with a friend who gets the Locus, when they fire the gun, it will constantly sound as if your friend is standing directly next to you as they fire it, even if they are actually on the other end of the map completely. This also, of course, will apply to you if you get the Locus and are playing with a friend. This odd glitch only works specifically in two player co-op, and including a third or fourth person makes it stop entirely.
9. Ballistic Knife
Answer: Secondary Weapons
The Ballistic Knife was a highly welcome addition to the game. At the time, there were no means available to one-shot someone with a melee weapon. Until the Ballistic Knife's addition, this game became the first game in all of "Call of Duty" not to feature a one-shot melee tool. The Ballistic Knife fills this void from up close and at a slight distance. Melee attacks will always kill in one hit no matter what, and if the player lands a fired knife, this will kill in one hit as well.
In Zombies, the Ballistic Knife has one, singular useful function. When Pack-a-Punched, it becomes capable of reviving downed allies at a slight distance. Other than this, it does basically no damage to the Zombies whatsoever and cannot even function as a point tool due to mechanical changes "Black Ops 4" instilled into earning points. Other than reviving friends, this weapon is utterly useless in Zombies.
10. S6 Stingray
Answer: Tactical Rifles
This quirky rifle is a two round burst assault rifle. It deals much more damage than the ABR 223 and Swordfish, its base game competition. It also has a competitive cycle rate and fire rate. Packaged with a very high headshot multiplier, and the S6 Stingray arrived onto the Tactical Rifle scene with force, eclipsing the other two overall in every way.
In Zombies, the only advantage the Swordfish has is being a wall weapon, making it a little more reliable and easy to access.
11. Reaver C86
Answer: Secondary Weapons
The Reaver C86 is basically a double barreled crossbow. In Multiplayer, landing both bolts will reliably kill someone immediately regardless of where the bolts land. Landing only one, however, cannot kill even if it's a headshot, demanding laser accuracy from its user.
In Zombies, this weapon is unfortunately terrible. It comes with low ammunition, does low damage, and is simply too unwieldy. In addition to being Mystery Box exclusive, there is no reason to go after this weapon unless you are a completionist and want to max out all of your weapons.
12. Argus
Answer: Secondary Weapons
Funnily enough, it was not the fan favorite KRM-262, nor the beloved 205 Brecci, or even the humble Haymaker 12 which had its own fan club, but the Argus representing "Black Ops 3" shotguns to appear in this game. Despite my introduction, the Argus did fill a niche of becoming the game's only lever action shotgun, so one could argue it was the most fit to join the game from "Black Ops 3" for this reason.
This weapon was buffed very slightly coming from its relatively uninspiring performance from a game prior. Even still, it was a fairly forgettable, unspectacular albeit usable weapon for both Multiplayer and Zombies.
13. M16
Answer: Tactical Rifles
The M16 had been in many, many "Call of Duty" titles and, in the real world, is itself a classic American firearm. Appearing in this game did not come because the meta demanded yet another burst rifle, it came because the M16 is the M16; it would be like asking why Mario appears in "Smash Bros".
Unfortunately, the M16 is not very good in this game. It was nerfed into oblivion coming from "Black Ops 3" for no apparent reason. There is no reason to use it in this game other than out of nostalgia or perhaps completionism.
14. Havelina AA50
Answer: Sniper Rifles
The Havelina AA50 essentially mimics the classic Barrett .50 cal of the "Modern Warfare" franchise, a timeless sniper rifle with proveably lasting impact on "Call of Duty" as a whole. In trying to emulate the Barrett, the Havelina does a great job. It features identical strength to the Paladin HB50 while being far, far more mobile and receptive to aggressive play.
This is a great weapon in Multiplayer, but it's arguably even better in Zombies. Here, it became one of few weapons capable of threatening a one shot kill to a Zombie forever and ever indefinitely.
15. AN-94
Answer: Assault Rifles
The AN-94 was the absolute king of assault rifles in "Black Ops 2", then it was straight copy/pasted without a buff or nerf to be found in this game. Because it was entirely left as-is, the weapon was unsurprisingly wonderful in both Multiplayer and Zombies.
It arguably was no longer the absolute undisputed king simply because the competition is far, far stronger than in "Black Ops 2", but it was still easily at least competitive with every assault rifle in the game for both modes.
16. DoubleCross
Answer: Assault Rifles
When it first came to the game, this weapon was called the Echohawk Dual Bore. It had a name change less than a month after coming to the game due to the fact that "Echo Hawk" is a Native American family name, and Treyarch wanted to avoid errantly misusing or disrespecting it.
As the name somewhat implies, this is a double barreled assault rifle, quite a novel concept. It fires two bullets every time the player pulls the trigger. This causes it to deal excellent damage, but burn through a magazine and overall ammo stock twice as quickly.
17. VMP
Answer: Submachine Guns
The VMP was a carryover from "Black Ops 3". However, it was buffed massively in transition and became far, far better. The major buff was to its overall damage output, but the gun was also far more stable and easier to control as well.
Unfortunately, unlike "Black Ops 3", this is not a wall weapon in Zombies here. This may explain why it was buffed so massively statistically, to compensate for it being less easily accessed.
18. MicroMG 9mm
Answer: Submachine Guns
In "Black Ops" 1-3, the Death Machine is a temporary power up players can pick up on most maps. When acquired, it places a mini gun in their hands, which absolutely destroys zombies and is available for 30 seconds.
Let me repeat: it is available for 30 seconds. Then it goes away. If it lingered much longer, it would be grossly overpowered... right?
Apparently, late into "Black Ops 4's" timeline, Treyarch either disagreed or didn't care. So much so that they basically gave players the Death Machine, in the form of a SUBMACHINE GUN. Submachine Gun as in, this is less than half the weight of the old, hunking minigun. Yet, it outputs the same damage with the same fire rate, has excellent handling and even has workable reload speed. This weapon has overbearing strengths and virtually no weaknesses to speak of.
Unsurprisingly, it absolutely dominated the bullet meta for both Multiplayer and Zombies on release. Perhaps not so coincidentally, this weapon released after Call of Duty Pro League for "Black Ops 4's" season came to an end. As such, this weapon never had the chance to destroy competitive play the way it did casual. Almost as if Treyarch intended for it to be that way...
19. Vendetta
Answer: Sniper Rifles
Similarly to how the Havelina AA50 emulates the Barrett .50 cal, the Vendetta attempts to portray the classic Cheytach Intervention from the "Modern Warfare" series. Like the Havelina, the Vendetta does an excellent job taking after a timeless classic. It is a guaranteed one shot to the head in Multiplayer, as well as threatening a permanent one shot kill to Zombies at all rounds.
20. Grav
Answer: Assault Rifles
Despite being named the 'Grav' for some reason, this is functionally the Galil from "Black Ops 1 and 2". It is the Galil right down to the weapons aesthetic and stats, which match its earlier counterparts identically.
Like the AN-94, the "Galil" is just as excellent in this game as it was previously. Like the AN-94, it isn't top dog anymore just because of having such stiff competition. But no matter what you are doing, acquiring a "Galil" will give you the means to deal with anything, be it Multiplayer or Zombies.
