What is The Hermit's real name?

Answer: (Starts with a P)
Question 5 of 15

Question 6 of 15
6. This map's second "new" Wonder Weapon, when fired, ejects a streak of lightning. Unlike the original version, this one has a scope! Wow! What is this map's second Wonder Weapon? Hint

Question 7 of 15
7. In the Lighthouse Station, players can find what appears to be just a plain, ordinary pair of glasses. This pair of glasses, however, are a video game version, of which the real world version belonged to an all-time zombies legend: not just "Call of Duty" zombies, but the very concept of zombieism in culture and media can be attributed to this man, who appeared on Call of the Dead. Who do these glasses belong to? Hint

Question 8 of 15
8. Bizarrely, players can actually skip straight to Round 200 if they so choose. This is done by... interacting with the water around the map. What do players need to do? Hint

Question 9 of 15
9. In order to even begin the Easter Egg Main Quest, one of the few prerequisites is assembling the Golden Pack-a-Punch machine. Even if not doing the Easter Egg Main Quest, doing this would probably be a good idea anyway. What upgrade does the Pack-a-Punch machine receive when it is Golden? Hint

Question 10 of 15
10. This is usually the part where things get weird, and Tag der Toten's second Easter Egg Main Quest delivers. Here, players must take instructions from a vial of blood. No joke, who (or what) does this vial of blood belong to? Hint

Question 11 of 15
11. The blood vial will instruct players to gather three offerings, and will give them relatively obscure clues as to where to go. If the blood tells a player to go to a place where "one mysteries", where should the player go? Hint

Question 12 of 15
12. Not long after dealing with sentient blood, players acquire the Agarthan Device. They must return it to The Hermit briefly, after which they must pass a mini-game to proceed. What mini-game is it? Hint

Question 13 of 15
13. Once the Agarthan Device is back in hand, it's boss time! Well, kind of. Who is the boss of this map? Hint

Question 14 of 15
14. Once the final conflict is finished, two random players (or just the one if not in a co-op session) will now be chosen to very briefly play as two new characters, characters which had never before been playable. Who are players playing as here? Hint

Question 15 of 15
15. During the final cutscene cinematic, Ultimis and Primis are enjoying drinks and some banter in celebration of their victory. Alas, this is not the end; as Primis Nikolai knows very well, one final step must be taken to ensure that the Apothicons and Keepers remain defeated forever and ever. What does Nikolai opt to do with his Primis and Ultimis comrades, along with himself? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. For the final map in all of Aether, surprisingly, players do not play as either Ultimis or Primis crews. What previously playable group of characters is playable on this map?

Answer: Victis

The Victis crew, consisting of Abigail "Misty" Briarton, Marlton Johnson, Russman and Samuel Stuhlinger, make up this map's playable characters. Primis isn't entirely absent, not the least of which narratively speaking, but they are not playable on this map.
2. What is the main objective for the crew on this map?

Answer: Find the Agarthan Device

The culmination of all of Primis and Ultimis' efforts still heavily rely on Victis finding the Agarthan Device to achieve anything.

In game, the Agarthan Device is named "The Seal of Duality" and, predictably, acquiring it is the main focus of this map's Easter Egg Main Quest.
3. This map is a remake, the original version being Call of the Dead from "Black Ops 1". One immediate contrast to this map players are sure to feel is the process of turning the power on. In Call of the Dead, there was one single power switch that worked on the entire map. How many power switches need to be turned on to fully power Tag der Toten?

Answer: Three

In this map, power switches will only impact a segment of the map instead of the entire thing. Given that the map takes place on a frozen tundra shore, where players explore a giant boat, a tall cottage and other structures, it is probably pretty unrealistic that all of these things would be tied to a single power switch. So this is realistic to a fair degree.
4. For casual or Easter Egg Main Quest gameplay alike, an NPC named The Hermit will become a centralizing figure on this map. Though the game initially conceals The Hermit's true identity from the player, players can eventually discover that this map is not The Hermit's debut. Far from it, actually. What is The Hermit's real name?

Answer: Pablo Marinus

Upon finally completing the entire Easter Egg Main Quest, save for the final conflict, The Hermit will reveal his name outright as Pablo Marinus.

Per the game's lore, Pablo was actually one of the original Ultimis members, until he was presumed dead after Richtofen inadvertently cut out his spleen performing an experimentation. Pablo was, in fact, not dead. How he managed to survive is never clarified, though is hardly the most ridiculous thing to take place in this storyline by any remote stretch.

Upon completing the Easter Egg Main Quest and revealing his name, Pablo informs Victis that he intends to complete his 'prophecy' by participating in the Great War as planned. Sadly, little did Pablo know that doing this is exactly what Doctor Monty and the Keepers want, and is a contradiction to the objective of Primis and Ultimis. Yet, due to the way the story ends, it doesn't end up mattering and Pablo's eventual fate was never discovered.
5. This map boasts two "brand new" Wonder Weapons which are just rehashed versions of very old Wonder Weapons. The first one ejects a wide area of effect damaging burst in a wide circle in front of the player. What is it?

Answer: Tundra Gun

You ever go to an auction or some kind of yard sale, find something that the seller tries to pass as authentic, but is clearly a tacky, very much fake version of what they claim it to be? That's the Tundra Gun in a nutshell. If only looking and caring about stats, this weapon is fine enough for a Wonder Weapon.

But it ends up just feeling like a cheap, plastic version of the eternally iconic Thunder Gun, since that's exactly what it is.
6. This map's second "new" Wonder Weapon, when fired, ejects a streak of lightning. Unlike the original version, this one has a scope! Wow! What is this map's second Wonder Weapon?

Answer: Wunderwaffe DG-Scharfschutze

The Wunderwaffe DG-Scharfschutze, much like the Tundra Gun, is an obvious cheap knock off of the Wunderwaffe DG-2, a vastly superior Wonder Weapon that was actually an original concept when it came out!

That said, the DG-Scharfschutze is unbelievably vastly inferior to its original, inferior to an extent even the Tundra Gun can't match. The Wunderwaffe DG-2, when fired, simply deals infinite damage, immediately, to up to ten nearby zombies. The DG-Scharfschutze does not even deal infinite damage, automatically making it way worse. Sure, it does deal really strong damage; a Winter's Howl, this is not, as players can at least competently wield it as a high round tool. But, to do this requires actual precision, something the DG-2 does not, and something that still results in less achieved than the DG-2 with more skill needed.

Overall, while this map was not by any means the worst map ever made, it sure did inarguably have the most lazy, uninspiring Wonder Weapons on "Black Ops 4", if not zombies history.

Answer: George Romero

In the real world, in 1968, George Romero directed and eventually produced "Night of the Living Dead", which was the first piece of media in which zombies and the concept of zombieism made a focal appearance. Romero would go on to direct and produce "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead" which were similarly iconic. In general, Romero had a legendary career entwined with film, but his work in developing zombie media was absolutely instrumental to things such as a Zombies mode in "Call of Duty" even existing. It's fair to wonder if Zombies in "Call of Duty" would even be a thing without Romero's work.

Romero was also directly involved with "Call of Duty" zombies himself, very briefly. In "Black Ops 1", Romero is actually the mini-boss of Call of the Dead, explaining his cameo appearance on this map.

This map launched in late 2018. Romero passed away in 2017. Considering that plus his presence on the original version for this map, having a cameo with him just makes too much sense.
8. Bizarrely, players can actually skip straight to Round 200 if they so choose. This is done by... interacting with the water around the map. What do players need to do?

Answer: Freeze themselves

When treading through the water on this tundra landscape, the player will begin to move slower and slower until they freeze completely solid, and must use melee attacks to break the ice. Freezing themselves solid for a tenth time will spawn a location inside the spawn room. If interacted with, players will briefly hear what sounds to be Samantha Maxis commanding them not to freeze. All players will be locked inside the spawn room, and must survive one full round like this. The catch is that, in or out of water, if anyone stops sprinting, they will begin to freeze as if they were in the water. So, players must simply sprint continuously to avoid freezing. Clearly then, the Stamin-Up perk would be ideal for surviving this sequence.

Once one full round has been survived in this manner, players will immediately be sent to Round 200. Unless supremely armed, however, it is unlikely they will actually be able to advance to Round 201 and beyond though. Zombies at this point are so strong that only infinite damage dealing methods would aid the player in any significant way here.

Answer: It now instantly maxes out a weapon

Ordinarily, players must Pack-a-Punch their weapons a total of five times to fully maximize the weapon's damage output. With Golden Pack-a-Punch, this process is basically streamlined, as one singular use will completely top a weapon off. This is also needed later to finish constructing the Agarthan Device.
10. This is usually the part where things get weird, and Tag der Toten's second Easter Egg Main Quest delivers. Here, players must take instructions from a vial of blood. No joke, who (or what) does this vial of blood belong to?

Answer: An Apothicon Elder God

This unnamed Apothicon Elder God essentially tells the player that it plans to help them after players "prove their fealty" to it. At this point, if you don't expect to be dealing with the blood of an alien overlord existing in another dimension, are you even playing this game?
11. The blood vial will instruct players to gather three offerings, and will give them relatively obscure clues as to where to go. If the blood tells a player to go to a place where "one mysteries", where should the player go?

Answer: The Lighthouse

In total, there are twenty-four different places the Apothicon Blood can ask players to go, and it will randomly choose three of them.
12. Not long after dealing with sentient blood, players acquire the Agarthan Device. They must return it to The Hermit briefly, after which they must pass a mini-game to proceed. What mini-game is it?

Answer: Lockdown

This part is pleasingly simple, as players must simply remain in the Lighthouse and survive an onslaught of zombies. Since this is the Aether story, all there is to attack players here are zombies, so it's a pretty straightforward sequence.
13. Once the Agarthan Device is back in hand, it's boss time! Well, kind of. Who is the boss of this map?

Answer: Nobody

There is definitely a final 'conflict', but there is not a boss enemy for players to defeat. Once the Agarthan Device is plugged into and retrieved from the Golden Pack-a-Punch machine, players will be encased into a small, orange ring. The ring will move around the map slowly, and players will take rapid damage if they step outside the ring. The ring will go from Golden Pack-a-Punch all the way to Human Infusion, which is a massive trek. During this time, water will become lava and will damage players who step in it. At various points, the orange ring will halt and require players to kill zombies to charge it back up.

Even though there is no actual boss fight, this conflict is unironically harder than any other 'final conflict' in this game. Players are confined to a fairly tiny circle, forced to move very slowly and be incredibly vulnerable in this confined space, and they do not have the luxury of gaining free Max Ammo powerups like they would in an actual boss fight. That said, the counterbalance is that they are only dealing with regular zombies, not an actual boss or even any mini-bosses. As such, players who come to this with extremely overpowered Elixirs, a souped up Specialist and one or more Wonder Weapons can still do this in a fairly straightforward manner.
14. Once the final conflict is finished, two random players (or just the one if not in a co-op session) will now be chosen to very briefly play as two new characters, characters which had never before been playable. Who are players playing as here?

Answer: Samantha Maxis & Young Richtofen

Players don't actually really do anything during this sequence, instead using the two named characters to slowly walk out of the Dark Aether and into the "real world".

Answer: Kill them

While the entire crew is enjoying drinks over a campfire, Nikolai has secretly poisoned their drinks ahead of time, resulting in their gradual and eventual deaths. Once this is done, Nikolai requests that Samantha mercy kill him by way of a bullet to the head from a Welling revolver. Samantha, after telling Young Edward Richtofen to look away, completes this deed.

The reason Nikolai opted to do this was, if Primis or Ultimis remain alive, it will cause the cycle to eternally continue, where they will simply embark on their journeys needed to get here over and over, unendingly, for the rest of natural time. This has the consequence of allowing for the Apothicons and Keepers to continue to tear their way into the real world, which could one day allow for something even more sinister to occur. To prevent this, Nikolai abruptly has the cycle halted by ensuring all those who were part of the cycle are killed.

This glorious sacrifice will cause the Keepers and Apothicons to remain sealed away in the Dark Aether forever, ensuring they never again can pose a threat to humanity.
