Tank items are generally meant to prioritize survivability for the user above all else. This is where they differentiate from Support items, which can provide tank stats, but are more bent towards offering broader team utility.
Crystalline Cuirass goes all-in on protecting the buyer from Magic damage as much as can realistically be expected from one item.
Catalytic Drive is a scaling item. The user will eventually want to evolve it into Cybernetic Drive, by using the Catalytic version to first execute twenty minions. When Cybernetic Drive is achieved, the user gets a boost to both Armors in addition to some nice health regeneration and a bit of Ability Haste for good measure.
Elafrost is the go-to for mana hungry tanks, such as Riktor or Adele. It stands out for being the only Tank item to offer Mana Regeneration.
Fire Blossom is an excellent catch-all for all Tanks. The basic premise is that it continually damages enemies for standing in melee range of the user, and this damage worsens for awhile and only dissipates when the target leaves the range.
Fist of Razuul is an excellent item for Tanks seeking to enhance their dueling potential, with a nifty Basic Attack oriented healing passive.
Flux Matrix is an excellent choice for magical bruiser characters. It is a mainstay on Steel and is quite effective on Aurora and Kwang as well.
Giant's Ring is a good option to help Tanks with their cooldowns, offering a small reduction to all cooldowns when they are hit by a Basic Attack and unique enhancing their size whenever they cast an Ultimate Ability for a brief period of time.
Inquisition offers the user some Magic Armor, but more importantly, they emit a damaging energy wave at their person each time they cast an Ability. This is worth considering for characters such as Terra, Steel or perhaps Crunch.
Legacy was, ironically per Omeda Studios, the single least used item in all of 2025- not just the Tank category, the whole entire game. The niche it offers is that it automatically Cleanses the buyer if they end up low on health.
Raiment of Renewal is an amazing item for Tanks seeking a little more lane longevity. It offers a huge spike to their health regeneration when out of combat, and a gargantuan flat amount of HP as well.
Rebirth is infamous for being the first item Omeda ever had to "kill switch", being unavailable for use for a period of several months spanning from 2025 into 2026. Its effect is unique; upon taking a death, the user can simply become reborn as a vegetated drone, who can do nothing but move slowly and use weak Basic Attacks. If they survive in this state for several seconds, they essentially get to come back to life without actually dying. No wonder this thing got the boot for as long as it did...
Stonewall is the classic, straightforward item for blocking as much Physical damage as can be blocked in one item.
Tainted Bastion is the go-to if the user expects to face a magical enemy with a lot of self heal.
Meanwhile, Tainted Guard performs a similar service against Physical enemies with a lot of self heal.
Transference is a Tank item which jacks the user's movement speed up when they obtain a shield. When the shield dissipates, Transference will then heal the buyer for a small portion of the amount of the shield. This isn't useful on everyone, but for those who can generate value from it, Transference is strong enough to make them seem immortal. The likes of Riktor, Kwang and Terra highlight as this item's best (ab)users.
Unbroken Will is a Tank item intended to help the user deals with Crowd Control effects. On being immobilized, Unbroken Will will provide the buyer with a massive, brief spike to their Armors.
Vainglory is a really simple, fun beast. It simply provides a ton of Armor to Phys and Magical up front. Then, by simply getting hit by anything, these Armor bonuses increase, with the stacks refreshingly endlessly. The bonuses themselves are temporary, but in theory, if the user was hit one million times in rapid succession (without dying, of course) they would obtain one million stacks of Vainglory.
Void Helm is a Tank item which allows the user to heal for a fair bit more by doing literally anything which ordinarily causes healing. It's a great catch-all for characters with a lot of self heal, such as Grux and Khaimera.
Warden's Faith is an excellent Anti-Carry item specifically, as it dramatically reduces the damage the user takes from Critical Hits. Generally, only Carry characters tend to dish out consistent Critical Hits, making Warden's Faith an excellent choice if the enemy team has multiple Carry characters.
Absolution, Aegis of Agawar, Augmentation and Citadel are Fighter items. These are not necessarily the absolute worst choice for Tanks to choose, but in terms of pure, raw survivability, Tanks can do better.
Claw of Hermes, Golem's Gift, Lifebinder and Lifecore are Mage items. The only time a Tank might even glance at this category is if a particular match is going so well for them that they can afford to stop taking the opponent seriously and start building to do more damage. After all, who doesn't like seeing that big number on the screen get bigger? Seriously though, Tanks should never look at Mage items if they are playing seriously. Mage items simply are bent towards dishing damage, not adequately receiving it.
Dawnstar, Dynamo, Frosted Lure, Galaxy Greaves and Tainted Charm are Support items. They are about as passive, typically even more so than Tank items, and they also are not geared at raw survivability like Tank items. Simply put, Tanks in the Offlane or the Jungle who build Support items just will not have the stats to accomplish anything. Remember, Support characters are meant to always be actively assisting someone else, so it makes sense that their items aren't meant to help them be self sufficient. In the Offlane especially, self sufficiency is key.
Deathstalker and Echelon Cloak are Assassin items. If you've made it this far into this quiz's interesting info, you likely do not need me to tell you why building Assassin items on Tanks is not ideal.
And likewise, Demolisher and Equinox are Carry items. I think even if you've been ignoring the interesting info to this point, it should be pretty straightforward why you wouldn't want to build "sharpshooter" items on a Tank.
