Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of the game, Mario is already fighting with Bowser who, as it appears, is holding which event?

Answer: Wedding

As rarely is the case, Mario is already in the middle of a battle when the game starts. In the skies above Peach's Castle, Mario and Bowser clash over Bowser's impromptu and unsolicited wedding to Peach, and in this fight, Mario loses; he's cast off the ship in mid-flight and dropped unceremoniously into the town of Bonneton in the Cap Kingdom.

Here, a delightful being known as Cappy teams up with Mario in order to save his sister and the two work together to chase and defeat the King Koopa before things get more out of hand.
2. Which of these can be found on the deck of the Odyssey, allowing Mario to navigate the Kingdoms?

Answer: Globe

Although Bonneton would've been the likeliest place to get an airship, Mario and Cappy need to make their way to the game's second Kingdom, the Cascade Kingdom, to get their hands on a functioning airship and proceed into later stages of the adventure.

They'll find one quite quickly upon arriving at Fossil Falls, but they'll have to collect five Power Moons from the area to power it up. Once this is done, it's as easy as tossing Cappy at the globe on the deck and using that to figure out where to head next.
3. Mario will inevitably need to hit every Kingdom in the game, but in how many instances is he met with a choice between two new Kingdoms to visit?

Answer: Twice

Although the progression of the Kingdoms is pretty well linear, there are two instances in which Mario is given a fork-in-the-road opportunity to choose between one Kingdom over another, the first being after Sand Kingdom (when he can choose Lake Kingdom or Wooded Kingdom) and the second being after Metro Kingdom (when he can go to the Snow Kingdom or the Seaside Kingdom).

In both of these cases, choosing one means unlocking the other anyways before getting back on the main track.
4. Each Kingdom contains two types of coins. One is the typical gold; what colour is the other?

Answer: Purple

And both types of coins are valuable to Mario as he makes purchases at the Crazy Cap shop. With Gold Coins, Mario will be able to buy evergreen items like Life Hearts and even Power Moons. Gold Coins are plentiful, and getting as many as possible will be important.

The second shop only takes Purple Coins, regional coins that only work in the Kingdoms they're associated with. There are limited numbers of these coins, but using them will allow Mario to purchase costumes and knickknacks that he can use to outfit the Odyssey.
5. Using Cappy, Mario has the ability to 'capture' foes, friends, and objects to use their skills. Which is not something that can be captured during the game?

Answer: Fuzzy

There are fifty-two total Captures in the game, all of which you can toss Cappy onto to use to your whims. While some of these are very directly attached to single Power Moons or hidden Regional Coins, some are a bit more general-use. And the catch is that not all foes (or friends) are capturable-- you won't know until you try. Fuzzies, for instance, often travel along dedicated paths and act as impediments for Mario as he heads along them (power lines, for instance). Mario can become trees in the Sand Kingdom and Wooded Kingdom, moving out of the way to access hidden items; he can become the manhole cover in Metro Kingdom; he can take on the form of both Hammer Bros. and Fire Bros. throughout the game.
6. Which of these locations does not exist in the game?

Answer: Animal Kingdom

There may be some Kingdoms containing animals, but none specifically built to be an 'Animal Kingdom'. That said, there are seventeen key destinations to visit throughout the game, all of which themed around a different biome or environment, and some of which may be highly referential to past "Mario" locations including Princess Peach's Mushroom Kingdom, one of the late locations of the game, based on the main setting of "Super Mario 64". Three of these seventeen Kingdoms are found on the moon.
7. The Power Moons in each Kingdom are different colours from one another.

Answer: True

To differentiate, Power Moons from one Kingdom will look different from those in others and, in fact, at least one Kingdom will have Mario hunting for Power Stars instead of Power Moons. The game will start with yellow and light green Power Moons, but within short order, you'll come across more exotic colours like pink, blue, brown, etc. The Power Moons in the Wooded Kingdom, for example, are a dark blue while those in the Luncheon Kingdom are a blue-green.

There are more than eight hundred Power Moons in the game. The variation is nice.
8. The final fight against Bowser will take place where?

Answer: In the moon

When Mario finally catches up to Bowser it will be in the Moon Kingdom in a wedding hall at the top of Honeylune Ridge, and he'll make it just in time to stop the ceremony from going ahead. The problem is that Bowser, always one for a contingency, will drop Mario into a cavern within the moon to start the final battle. If Mario is able to overcome this, he and Peach will be able to escape, but not before nearly getting crushed by the volatile interior of the moon. Mario will need to capture Bowser using Cappy's powers to escape.
9. Which of these characters will likely give you more Power Moons than any other in the game?

Answer: Toadette

Although Captain Toad might be one of the more frequent givers of Power Moons provided you can locate him in his hiding spots in each of the game's main Kingdoms, Toadette, who resides in Peach's Castle in the Mushroom Kingdom (at the end of the game) is responsible for a total of sixty-one of the game's eight hundred plus Power Moons, all of which are collected by completing certain achievements-- everything from catching rabbits to buying souvenirs to saving Peach to attaining world peace.
10. After collecting enough Power Moons, Mario can travel to the Dark Side for later-game content. What world follows this as the game's final Kingdom?

Answer: Darker Side

In order to reach the Dark Side, or the Dark Side of the Moon, Mario needs to not only have defeated Bowser at the end of the Moon Kingdom, but he needs to have obtained at least two hundred and fifty Power Moons from throughout the game. This shouldn't be extremely difficult-- by the time you reach the Mushroom Kingdom you will have received the opportunity to collect nearly four hundred and fifty Power Moons.

The Dark Side is the home of the Broodals, so you'll encounter them one last time there. Once you get five hundred Power Moons, you'll also unlock Darker Side, the last Kingdom in the game, for one last ultimate challenge to close out the to-dos here.
