The town of Bonneton is the central fixture in this early Kingdom and it's where Mario is dropped at the start of the game, reeling from a tough loss against Bowser. Initially destroyed by Bowser's Broodal henchmen, Mario will regain his bearings here, meet Cappy, and commence an adventure throughout all the Kingdoms from this spot.
The Kingdom here, drenched in thick fog, seems to be inspired by Victorian London, even if only in its aesthetic. And hats, of course.
2. Lost Kingdom
Answer: Forgotten Isle
Another unexpected Pit Stop for Mario, the Lost Kingdom is where he and Cappy land with a busted Odyssey after the fight with Bowser in the Cloud Kingdom, and what'll happen is they'll be trapped there until they can scrounge up enough Power Moons to repair their airship.
This island destination is far from tropical and relaxing; it's set up in a poisonous swamp filled with nasty enemies that steal things and explode, and even the friendly critters hurt.
3. Lake Kingdom
Answer: Lake Lamode
A bright and clear region of caverns and underwater structures, the Lake Kingdom forces Mario to take to the water and enjoy a refreshing dip in Lake Lamode, home of the Lochladies (mermaids!) and Dorrie. Here, Mario can capture Cheep Cheeps, unzip hidden treasures, and fight off Broodals (again!) in an effort to protect the Lochladies' prized Lochlady Dress, intended by Bowser to be his bride's wedding gown.
Although this Kingdom may be Greek-inspired due to the ruinous columns and structures throughout, there's something more futuristic about it. Maybe it's the bubble sanctuaries.
4. Sand Kingdom
Answer: Tostarena
The Sand Kingdom is exactly that. Sand. As far as the eye can see. Mario will arrive in front of Tostarena, a small, Mexican-inspired town in the middle of the dunes once he has the chance to hop into the Odyssey for the first time, and it will bring him to the first of many Kingdoms visited by Bowser as he collects items for the wedding.
The catch is that, on first visit, the Sand Kingdom is quite cold, so the trip here will involve getting to the bottom of that mystery, even if it means getting to the very bottom of the desert.
5. Snow Kingdom
Answer: Shiveria
A cold and foreboding land that's drowned out in a blizzard from the moment that Mario touches down there, Shiveria is home to the warm and well-meaning Shiverians, who he'll encounter if he can descend into their cavern village. Besides their well-constructed tunnels, however, Mario's time in this Kingdom will likely be spent climbing mountains, sliding around on ice, braving harsh winds, or-- of all things-- taking part in a grand prix on an exclusive race track.
6. Moon Kingdom
Answer: Honeylune Ridge
Literally on the moon, Honeylune Ridge is the last lead-up to the inevitable wedding crasher moment that Mario needs to build himself into. Here, Mario will have to defy low-gravity craters on the moon's surface and a magma-filled chamber within to fight first Madame Broode (again) and then Bowser in a final battle royale to save Princess Peach and Tiara. And yes, there is a Wedding Hall on the moon.
7. Cloud Kingdom
Answer: Nimbus Arena
An unexpected Kingdom for Mario and Cappy to visit, the Cloud Kingdom is found while the pair are en route to the Metro Kingdom, and it's only approached, at least initially, as an arena in which they can fight Bowser. A series of platform clouds, it's a large space in which to have a battle, but it's small for all else.
In fact, Mario can't even collect Power Moons here until he comes back later; there are only nine of them to get in this Kingdom, and most of those come after he's finished the main storyline.
8. Metro Kingdom
Answer: New Donk City
With clear connections to the old "Donkey Kong" games of yesteryear, New Donk City appears to be a thriving metropolis when Mario arrives in the Metro Kingdom, and though his visit there will initially be marred by the terror being wrought by the Mechawiggler perched atop City Hall, it will eventually go back to being a vibrant and bustling city.
Here, aside from doing all sorts of odd jobs and meeting New Donkers around the streets, Mario can enjoy activities like jump rope and RC car racing or visit the Crazy Cap Flagship Store.
9. Ruined Kingdom
Answer: Crumbleden
As Mario heads on towards Bowser's Kingdom, Bowser himself will make a mess of things by damaging the Odyssey with a dragon's electric breath and it's leave Mario and Cappy stranded, temporarily, in Crumbleden, the home of the Ruined Dragon. There are a few Power Moons here, but the goal is to obtain the Multi-Moon so that the Odyssey can be repaired for its jump to Bowser's domain.
This is, otherwise, a small and ruinous world of dilapidated castles. Think Mario meeds "Dark Souls".
10. Seaside Kingdom
Answer: Bubblaine
The coastal region of Bubblaine appears to be a resort destination of many unique features including the Glass Tower, the Rolling Canyon, and Hot Spring Island, all of which Mario will need to visit to complete the Kingdom's sole mission that culminates in a fight against Mollusque-Lanceur, a foe who's taken a seat atop the locals' supply of Sparkle Water. Leaving Metro Kingdom, Mario will have a choice between completing this area first, or Snow Kingdom. Both appear to be polar opposites (no pun intended).
11. Wooded Kingdom
Answer: Steam Gardens
Although much of the Wooded Kingdom is covered in dense woodland, it's also home to the well-tended Steam Gardens, overseen by robotic gardeners who look like watering cans. Here, Mario can ascend the metal platforms to verdant observation decks, wander the redwood-like trees, race around in the Secret Flower Field (where a boss awaits) or delve into the Deep Woods, home to a waiting tyrannosaurus rex. Bowser will have stopped here, at one point, to steal the Soirée Bouquet for his wedding.
12. Cascade Kingdom
Answer: Fossil Falls
A land of dinosaurs, rocky plateaus, and lush greenery, the Cascade Kingdom almost begets Jurassic Park (especially since there are active dinosaurs amongst the gamut of creatures here). Accessible via power line from the Cap Kingdom, it's the second Kingdom Mario will visit and it's the site at which he'll claim his airship, the Odyssey, from the ruins there.
In addition to fighting Madame Broode atop the waterfall, Mario also has the chance to become a tyrannosaurus rex with Cappy's help while he's visiting.
13. Luncheon Kingdom
Answer: Mount Volbono
A vibrant and colourful Kingdom that seems welcoming once you meet the slightly weird Volbonan citizens, Luncheon Kingdom may detract when you realize that the food-themed region is marred, just a bit, by a ton of lava floes surrounding most of its islands, all fuelled by the active Mount Volbano.
As Mario heads there to collect the Stupendous Stew he'll face the Broodals again and be set on a lengthy main Mission chain to pass through the volcano and face off against Cookatiel.
14. Bowser's Kingdom
Answer: Bowser's Castle
It makes sense to link these up-- Bowser's Kingdom is also his home base. This time, Bowser's lair will liken itself to a Japanese fortress complete with samurai accoutrements (Mario can even get a Samurai Costume!) and zen statues. Here, in addition to facing down tough obstacles and new foes, Mario will face off against the Broodals in a more substantial way, fighting Hariet and Topper solo, and then all of the Broodals at once as they pilot a massive mech. Bowser, however, will get away and head to the moon.
15. Mushroom Kingdom
Answer: Peach's Castle
Inspired by the layout and design of Peach's Castle as seen in "Super Mario 64", this Kingdom, unlocked after defeating Bowser, proves to be a wellspring for Power Moon collection since it contains the most in the game, most of which are given over as achievement rewards from Toadette.
Although Mario's arrival here may signal easier days ahead, it actually opens up a back half to the game in which Mario can unlock more Power Moon opportunities across the entire world. You can also find Luigi and Yoshi hanging around here.
