The third game in the series, released in 2010, would add a keyboard into the mix and have enough possibilities for seven different players in-game. Monkye See, Monkey Do: You play as the band. You mimic the hits, notes, and tones to give a close performance (in pitch too!) Later iterations of the game included authentic chord progressions on realistic fretted guitars and proper drum notes. It's as close as you can get to acting like a real rock band without being one.

The original "Top Gun" film starring Tom Cruise was released in May 1986. In November 1987, Konami published the video game "Top Gun" for the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Despite being inspired by the film, the "Top Gun" NES game does not incorporate the movie's main plot into its campaign. "Top Gun" for NES features only four missions, but they are fairly difficult to get through due to the complex tasks of landing on an aircraft carrier and carefully aligning your plane up to a refueling boom, which can take time to master. "Top Gun" was seen as being fairly successful and Konami later released a sequel game for the NES titled "Top Gun: The Second Mission" (1989/1990).

In 1996, a science fiction author named Steve Perry was hired by Lucasfilm to write a "Star Wars" novel that would be set between the second film "The Empire Strikes Back" and the third film "Return of the Jedi". The novel introduced an original character named Dash Rendar. He was hired to help find and rescue Han Solo, who had been frozen in carbonite at the end "The Empire Strikes Back". The book was heavily promoted by Lucasfilm, which included toys, posters, comics and a video game which was released for the Nintendo 64 in December, 1996. The game would be ported to PC about a year later.

The game is based on the first 70 days of their ordeal, as depicted in the TV show, apart from one glaring difference. There was no character called Elliott Maslow in the TV show! Nevertheless, he is here in the game alongside all of your favourites from the TV show, including Charlie, Hurley, Jack, Sayid and Kate, although be warned that none of these are voiced by the actors that played them in the TV show. Better make that two glaring differences. My favourite quote regarding the voices in the video game came from IGN Entertainment who stated that John Locke sounded like "an old-timey prospector", while Sawyer was compared to "Huckleberry Hound".

"Blinx: The Time Sweeper" is a 2002 platform game for the Xbox. Blinx, a cat resembling Puss in Boots, works at the Time Factory, fixing any Time Glitches in the flow of time throughout the universe. Those that aren't corrected turn into Time Crystals, which become Time Monsters. Uh-oh, the Tom-Tom Gang is holding Princess Lena hostage in another dimension. Blinx has "Time Controls" he can use to speed up, slow down, reverse and even stop or pause time. Unfortunately, despite the cool cat, Blinx earned a spot at number six on GameSpy's "25 Most Overrated Games of All Time" list. "Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space" was released in 2004. It involved a Time Angel, but, alas, was rated "average".

"DEFCON" was released by Introversion for PC and Mac in 2006/7, and on Linux in 2012, and featured a global simulation of all-out nuclear war. The game gave players control over a territory with a population of 100 million and counted down from DEFCON-5 to DEFCON-1, moving irreversibly towards mutually-assured destruction. A 2011 Easter egg on Steam gave players a break from the usual carnage by placing Santa himself in the game map. Players had to wait for DEFCON-1 and launch a nuclear warhead at Santa, ending Christmas once and for all for everyone. Some Stanford University students took the Christmas theme even further with their Christmas mod of "DEFCON", which saw missile silos replaced with Christmas trees, surface-to-air missile replaced with snowmen, stealth bombers replaced with reindeer-drawn sleighs, and the game's usual somber music replaced with Christmas carols. Instead of nuclear warheads, players delivered presents to cities on behalf of Santa to the sound of cheering, happy children. And if all that sweetness became too tiresome, you could always go back to the normal game and just nuke Santa (again).

When Lara Croft first showed up as a character in the PC game series "Tomb Raider" in 1996, her creator allegedly never intended for her to become a symbol of female sexuality, and one would argue that the graphical capabilities of PCs and consoles in the mid-1990s wouldn't have created a flattering character. That said, Croft became exactly that, often being one of the most familiar faces in discussions about sexism and female figures in video gaming because of her often exaggerated figure and the reaction it elicited from a subgroup of players. Arguably, the film adaptation of "Tomb Raider" complicated the issue when Paramount put Angelina Jolie into Croft's role (twice). That being said, the game's publishers cited that one in four players of the "Tomb Raider" franchise, back in the late 1990s, were female. The number only increased when the franchise was overhauled in 2013. The series, since its initial release, has become one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world and Croft herself is a recipient of a number of Guinness World Records.
