VG ...in Common Trivia Questions

31. What avatar item do you receive for getting a bulltrue medal in "Halo: Reach"?

From Quiz
A Virtual Treasure Trove

Answer: Emile's Helmet

The bulltrue medal is an extremely hard medal to get. You will need to kill someone while they are lunging at you with an energy sword. The best weapon to do this is a shotgun.

32. In the "Banjo-Kazooie" series, Kazooie can fly with feathers of which colour?

From Quiz Spread Your Wings

Answer: Red

First introduced in the second stage of "Banjo-Kazooie", Treasure Trove Cove, Flying is important for the bird and bear duo to locate and collect Jiggies and advance in the game. In fact, without obtaining the Red Feathers, the two of them would not be able to continue through Grunty's Lair unlocking new worlds. Red Feathers make a reappearance in "Banjo-Tooie", and Kazooie is also able to fly solo, without Banjo attached, thanks to new devices and skills. Flying is usually an important skill in fighting bosses and mini-bosses throughout the games.

33. In the Fire Temple in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", Link takes on this dragon using his Megaton Hammer. What's the name of this dragon?

From Quiz Here There Be Dragons

Answer: Volvagia

A classic boss from a classic game, Volvagia hides in the final chamber of the Fire Temple, the second of five temple dungeons visited by Link seven years into the future in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" (N64). Volvagia has the ability to fly out from lava holes in the battleground and head into the air dropping fire bombs onto the ground below, but with careful timing and the proper swings, Link can make short work of this fiery dragon and quell the fires of Death Mountain to save Goron City's inhabitants and claim the Fire Medallion from his spiritual brother, Darunia, the Sage of Fire.

34. Act like an authentic drummer, guitarist, bassist, singer, or keyboardist with games in this Harmonix set of games created by the team that originally made "Guitar Hero". What is the series?

From Quiz Monkey See, Monkey Do

Answer: Rock Band

Originally released in 2007 and produced by MTV Games, "Rock Band" is the ultimate rock fantasy. Created by the team that created the first couple of "Guitar Hero" games, it was the first title in the music game revolution of the late '00s to feature drums (something emulated by several other series). The third game in the series, released in 2010, would add a keyboard into the mix and have enough possibilities for seven different players in-game. Monkye See, Monkey Do: You play as the band. You mimic the hits, notes, and tones to give a close performance (in pitch too!) Later iterations of the game included authentic chord progressions on realistic fretted guitars and proper drum notes. It's as close as you can get to acting like a real rock band without being one.

35. Commonly found in "SimCity" and "The Sims", what form of currency will you use to pay for that vibrating heart bed, a chemistry set, or a bookshelf to raise your Mechancial skill?

From Quiz And How Will You Be Paying, Sir?

Answer: Simoleons

Simoleons happen to be an apt slang term for money in the real world and they make their appearance in several of the games in the popular Maxis simulation series. Whether you're creating a city infrastructure in "SimCity" or purchasing houses or furniture in "The Sims", Simoleons can be earned or lost quite easily if you don't get a grip on the 'reality' of it all. In "The Sims", even the tiniest things can cost money and maintaining a good job can be very important for players and their near-helpless avatars. Of course, if you wanted to simply fall into money, I hear 'rosebud' is always a clever option. ;)

36. In this 1990 game, keys could be found to go into mysterious keyholes, often allowing the main character to access different pathways or even the exotic Star World. What SNES game is it?

From Quiz The Key, The Secret

Answer: Super Mario World

In many of the levels of "Super Mario World" (SNES), Mario could discover a key laying on the ground and use it within the level by walking into a keyhole hidden elsewhere in the stage. Accomplishing this feat, either by lifting the key and using it as Mario or running into the keyhole with the key in Yoshi's mouth, you could unlock secret and hidden pathways around the various areas of the game's world. In some cases, this was necessary to reach other levels, particularly in the Star World. Keys and keyholes would become recurring objects in later Mario games including the SNES game "Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars" and others.

37. "Blue", "Sapphire", and "HeartGold" are all subtitles of which popular handheld series?

From Quiz Video Games By Subtitles

Answer: Pokemon

The "Pokemon" series, originally released on the Game Boy, has been known to release new versions of the game with coloured subtitles differentiating between versions. Starting with "Red" and "Blue" in North America, titles have since included "Gold", "Silver", "Sapphire", "Ruby", "Platinum", and more. "Pokemon" is a Nintendo-owned franchise in which players catch, train, and battle creatures found around the game world in order to become a Pokemon Master. "Pokemon" has since spawned a sprawling series of games, a TV show, books, and merchandise.

38. In "Harvest Moon 64", you have a choice of marrying one of how many different girls?

From Quiz Love, Virtually

Answer: Five

Popuri, Ann, Karen, Maria, and Elli are all up for grabs in "Harvest Moon 64" in which you need to manage a farm and earn money to keep yourself afloat. Finding your wife is an inevitability though. Finding a wife leads you to a bigger house, a happier life, and a child. To develop a relationship, you need to appeal to the girls of town. Giving Maria bugs (something she enjoys), for example, will make her like you quicker. When you're married, your wife will often pick up a chore around the house to do. Popuri, for example, will gather eggs from the chickens in your coop.

39. In this game, Jade plays a table game with a shark. The game is similar to air hockey, but instead of making a puck into a goal on the other side, you must get all eight discs on the other player's side. What video game is this?

From Quiz Games Within Games

Answer: Beyond Good and Evil

Jade is the main character of "Beyond Good and Evil". She works for the IRIS Network. Their mission is to stop the Alpha Sections from taking over the planet Hillys using the DomZ creatures. The Alpha Sections pretend they are the good guys, and that IRIS is evil. IRIS' goal is to stop the Alpha Sections evil plot. The game was released in 2003 for the PC, Gamecube, PS2, and XBox.

40. "Final Fantasy 9" for Playstation: What happens if you make it to Memoria "Room of Emptiness" within 12 hours?

From Quiz Video Game Secrets

Answer: You find Excalbur 2

The biggest downside of getting to pandemonium in 12 hours is that you don't really get to do a lot of the sidequests. The best part is you get to boast that you made it through in 12 hours. That's 4 hours per disk, unless you spread the time out more.

41. What was the name of the sole expansion pack for "Diablo II"?

From Quiz Expansion Packs!

Answer: Lord of Destruction

"Lord of Destruction" added a fifth act to the popular game which allowed players to interact with one another on "Battle.net". The fifth act took players to a snowy land where they had to travel across the mountains to reach Baal, a brother of Diablo, who was also the Lord of Destruction. Six new quests, new items, and the introduction of the Druid and Assassin characters were big selling points for this new expansion released in 2001.

42. "Dance Dance Revolution" is one of those games that really doesn't need violence to play, and it's great for burning off those extra calories as well. What is the name of the UK version of this game?

From Quiz Less-Violent Video Games

Answer: Dancing Stage

"Dance Dance Revolution" has to be one of my favourite video games because it's seemingly-never-ending and fun. In each game, you can work your way up through Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, and beyond as you play tons of neat songs and interesting games. Along with the difficulty ratings, songs are rated by footprints as well. Many home games contain mission modes and quest modes to add something extra to the game. These can often add unlockable songs or avatars to your library. If you can't pick up a home version, there's likely to be an arcade version in a nearby arcade. These often feature extensive lists of songs which sample from nearly every game. There are different versions in Japan, North America, and Europe.

43. A hidden tech that drops a sword and multiple lightning bolts on the target. What is this tech?

From Quiz Name That Tech!

Answer: Indignation Judgment

This is Genis' hidden technique in "Tales of Symphonia". After using Indignation 50 times, you can use Indignation Judgment by using Indignation in Over Limit.

44. Something happened to the main character. He travelled through time with his friend, and was "changed" by a mysterious substance. What game is it? (On the Playstation 2)

From Quiz What Happened? It's a Sequel

Answer: Jak 2 & Jak II & Jack 2 & Jack II

Jak and his otsel friend Daxter travelled into the future, where Jak was changed with dark eco.

45. "Driver" was the first game to mimic "Grand Theft Auto" and was a step forward for the genre as it ventured in to 3D. Before you started your missions, you had to pass a test. Where do you take the test?

From Quiz Attack of the Clones: "GTA" Edition

Answer: Car park

You must first take a test and pass it before bosses recruit you for work. "Driver" did not allow you to get out of your car and run over pedestrians like "Grand Theft Auto" did. Due to this, "Driver" was not badly critised.

46. In "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", the horse Epona is named after a goddess from what sort of mythology?

From Quiz Mythology in Games

Answer: Celtic

Epona is the Irish Celtic goddess of horses, mules and cavalrymen. Among the Gaulish Celts themselves, she was worshipped as goddess of horses, mules, oxen, and springs and rivers (to an extent). She was the Celtic goddess whose authority extended even beyond death, accompanying the soul on its final journey. Epona is depicted sitting sidesaddle, lying on a horse, or standing with multiple horses around her.

47. What is the currency in "Final Fantasy VII"?

From Quiz Video Games #4: Currency

Answer: Gil

Gil is the traditional currency of the "Final Fantasy" games. Gil is used to buy weapons and items such as potions and ethers in the series.

48. This tin can (literally) had a cocky attitude. When winning he would say "I know" or "I already know". (PSX)

From Quiz The Cyborg System

Answer: Sushi Boy

Sushi Boy was a hidden character on "Bust A Groove 2". He was the robot equivalent of Comet.

49. What Nintendo Entertainment System RPG classic contains a castle where one of the characters you can converse with (if you manage to somehow find her) is an inexplicably invisible woman?

From Quiz Famous Video Game Bugs, Glitches, and Oddities

Answer: Final Fantasy

The woman's character sprite was rendered incorrectly. Characters that are not inside rooms before you enter are supposed to disappear when you do go inside. This simulates you being inside the room by making the screen completely vanish on the outside and leaving the room and what's inside as the only thing visible. Here they got it backward. The woman was accidentally made visible only when you're *inside* a room. And since she isn't in or near a room in the game, she thus becomes the Amazing Invisible Woman.

50. The 2004 game 'Painkiller' challenges the player to escape from which location?

From Quiz Religion In Video Games

Answer: Purgatory

The game was developed in Warsaw by the Polish company People Can Fly and was originally available only on Microsoft Windows. In 2006, a version was made available for the Xbox. The story revolves around a young man who, along with his wife, is killed in a car accident. While she reaches heaven, he is stuck in purgatory until given an escape route - this involves killing Lucifer's generals to prevent a war between heaven and hell. Game play takes place in various periods of history before ending in hell for a final confrontation. The game is classed as a first person shooter.

51. How many levels are featured in the "Top Gun" video game for the NES?

From Quiz This Quiz is Not About Movies!

Answer: Four

The original "Top Gun" film starring Tom Cruise was released in May 1986. In November 1987, Konami published the video game "Top Gun" for the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It is a first person shoot 'em up which puts players into the cockpit of an F-14 Tomcat. Despite being inspired by the film, the "Top Gun" NES game does not incorporate the movie's main plot into its campaign. "Top Gun" for NES features only four missions, but they are fairly difficult to get through due to the complex tasks of landing on an aircraft carrier and carefully aligning your plane up to a refueling boom, which can take time to master. "Top Gun" was seen as being fairly successful and Konami later released a sequel game for the NES titled "Top Gun: The Second Mission" (1989/1990).

52. Which game package by Devolver features the game parody "Hotline Milwaukee"?

From Quiz Video Games and Wisconsin

Answer: Devolver Bootleg

"Devolver Bootleg" (2015) was designed by Doinksoft and released by Devolver Digital. It contains "Hotline Milwaukee" as a parody of the popular video game "Hotline Miami." Their description of Milwaukee as "historically interesting and relevant" tells you it's a parody. "Hotline Miami" is a first person shooter game in which the player guns downs members of the Russian mafia in Miami. It was released in 2012. Devolverland Expo is a marketing simulation set at a computer convention. Tumble Time is a physics based game. And Serious Sam is an early first person shooter developed by Croteam and Devolver Digital, released in 2001.

53. The video game "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire" is set between which two "Star Wars" films?

From Quiz Shadows

Answer: "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi"

In 1996, a science fiction author named Steve Perry was hired by Lucasfilm to write a "Star Wars" novel that would be set between the second film "The Empire Strikes Back" and the third film "Return of the Jedi". The novel introduced an original character named Dash Rendar. He was hired to help find and rescue Han Solo, who had been frozen in carbonite at the end "The Empire Strikes Back". The book was heavily promoted by Lucasfilm, which included toys, posters, comics and a video game which was released for the Nintendo 64 in December, 1996. The game would be ported to PC about a year later.

54. Which video game franchise released its first game in 1986, yet had to wait until 2018 to win the Game Developers Choice Award for the Game of the Year?

From Quiz And The Winner Is

Answer: The Legend of Zelda

OK, so the Game Developers Choice Awards weren't around for the first fourteen years of "Zelda", but even so games in the franchise, such as "The Wind Waker" (2002 GameCube), "Twilight Princess" (2006 Wii & GameCube) and "Skyward Sword" (2011 Wii) were all eligible. The series finally took the award though in 2017, when "Breath of the Wild" (2017 Nintendo Switch & Wii U) was victorious, beating out "Horizon Zero Dawn" (2017 PS4) and "Super Mario Odyssey" (2017 Nintendo Switch).

55. In a 2008 PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game based on which TV show, would you play the part of photojournalist and plane crash survivor, Elliott Maslow?

From Quiz Game Shows

Answer: Lost

It is the job of Elliott Maslow in this game, "Lost: Via Domus" (2008) to piece together what happened to the plane crash survivors when they were thrown together on the island. The game is based on the first 70 days of their ordeal, as depicted in the TV show, apart from one glaring difference. There was no character called Elliott Maslow in the TV show! Nevertheless, he is here in the game alongside all of your favourites from the TV show, including Charlie, Hurley, Jack, Sayid and Kate, although be warned that none of these are voiced by the actors that played them in the TV show. Better make that two glaring differences. My favourite quote regarding the voices in the video game came from IGN Entertainment who stated that John Locke sounded like "an old-timey prospector", while Sawyer was compared to "Huckleberry Hound".

56. In this video game a character can clean up ripples in time, freeze and record time. You can even beat up time-pigs if you are who, the Time Sweeper?

From Quiz Time Gentlemen Please

Answer: Blinx

"Blinx: The Time Sweeper" is a 2002 platform game for the Xbox. Blinx, a cat resembling Puss in Boots, works at the Time Factory, fixing any Time Glitches in the flow of time throughout the universe. Those that aren't corrected turn into Time Crystals, which become Time Monsters. Uh-oh, the Tom-Tom Gang is holding Princess Lena hostage in another dimension. Blinx has "Time Controls" he can use to speed up, slow down, reverse and even stop or pause time. Unfortunately, despite the cool cat, Blinx earned a spot at number six on GameSpy's "25 Most Overrated Games of All Time" list. "Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space" was released in 2004. It involved a Time Angel, but, alas, was rated "average".

57. In winter 2011, Steam offered a "Merry Christmas" achievement for the real-time strategy game "DEFCON" that featured Santa on his sleigh flying around from city to city on Christmas Eve. What did players have to do to earn this special achievement?

From Quiz 'Tis the Season To Be Gory

Answer: Nuke Santa

"DEFCON" was released by Introversion for PC and Mac in 2006/7, and on Linux in 2012, and featured a global simulation of all-out nuclear war. The game gave players control over a territory with a population of 100 million and counted down from DEFCON-5 to DEFCON-1, moving irreversibly towards mutually-assured destruction. A 2011 Easter egg on Steam gave players a break from the usual carnage by placing Santa himself in the game map. Players had to wait for DEFCON-1 and launch a nuclear warhead at Santa, ending Christmas once and for all for everyone. Some Stanford University students took the Christmas theme even further with their Christmas mod of "DEFCON", which saw missile silos replaced with Christmas trees, surface-to-air missile replaced with snowmen, stealth bombers replaced with reindeer-drawn sleighs, and the game's usual somber music replaced with Christmas carols. Instead of nuclear warheads, players delivered presents to cities on behalf of Santa to the sound of cheering, happy children. And if all that sweetness became too tiresome, you could always go back to the normal game and just nuke Santa (again).

58. What famous video game character, the star of a long-running series of action-adventure games started in 1996, has been criticized for being little more than an object of male fantasy and a blatant attempt at using sexuality to sell copies?

From Quiz Hot Coffee, If You Know What I Mean

Answer: Lara Croft

When Lara Croft first showed up as a character in the PC game series "Tomb Raider" in 1996, her creator allegedly never intended for her to become a symbol of female sexuality, and one would argue that the graphical capabilities of PCs and consoles in the mid-1990s wouldn't have created a flattering character. That said, Croft became exactly that, often being one of the most familiar faces in discussions about sexism and female figures in video gaming because of her often exaggerated figure and the reaction it elicited from a subgroup of players. Arguably, the film adaptation of "Tomb Raider" complicated the issue when Paramount put Angelina Jolie into Croft's role (twice). That being said, the game's publishers cited that one in four players of the "Tomb Raider" franchise, back in the late 1990s, were female. The number only increased when the franchise was overhauled in 2013. The series, since its initial release, has become one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world and Croft herself is a recipient of a number of Guinness World Records.

After release in 2016, they were followed by the revised "Pokémon Ultra Sun" and "Ultra Moon". All of these games included the Sun Pokemon, Solgaleo, who was a psychic/steel-type
