At about the half-way point of "Half-Life 2", the bridge on Highway 17 is a spot that needs to be traversed a least a handful of times. Following the more tense Ravenholm sequence (head-crabs!), Highway 17 involves a bit more unique maneuvering (on the girders beneath). The tension mounts a bit more when you have to dodge more headcrabs, some zombies, and-- oh yeah-- a gunship, but it's all par for the course. Things are only going to get a bit more complicated as you go.

Both of these games (along with a game in the Mario series named "Hotel Mario") were created as a joint venture between Phillips and Nintendo for the short-lived CD-i console, and egads were they not popular. It didn't help that the "Legend of Zelda" and "Mario" games were unlike any seen before, and coupled with their poor controls and quality, they became the notorious black sheep of the series.

Assembling all three of them into a large Triforce gives the player greatly increased powers. "Tales of Symphonia", released on the Gamecube and Playstation 2, was a popular entry in the much-acclaimed "Tales..." series of non-turn-based RPGs by Namco Bandai. First released in 2003, the game was critically praised for its combat system and story, both staples in later sequels. A proper sequel, "Dawn of the New World", was released on the Wii U in 2008. The World Tree, also known as the Giant Kharlan Tree, is a major focal point of the story because its destruction would end both worlds. Lloyd Irving and company set out to destroy Mithos Yggdrasill and Cruxis, who plan to destroy the Great Seed.

"Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars" was released in 1996, a short time before the Nintendo 64, and paved the way for the 3D-rendered "Mario" games of the next generations. One of the earliest RPGs in the canon, "The Legend of the Seven Stars" was a turn-based game and was considered by many to be one of the leaders in the genre on the SNES. Square would find further fame pairing up with Enix to make "Final Fantasy" and "Kingdom Hearts" titles and Mario wouldn't be in another RPG until "Paper Mario" on the N64. In "Super Mario RPG", Mario, Princess Toadstool, Bowser, and others must restore the Star Road by collecting-- get this-- seven stars.

Although all of these games did appear on the Nintendo 64 and most, to an extent, featured space in some way, shape or form, "Star Fox 64" ended with Star Fox and Co. in their Arwings, facing off against the evil Andross (or, at least, his head and hands) on the planet Venom. "Star Fox 64", of course, was the reboot for the earlier "Star Fox" game seen on the SNES. Fox has since become a famous face for the Nintendo family, later appearing in the "Super Smash Bros." series. He appeared in further flight games and a few platformers on later consoles.

While "The Lost Levels" was technically the second "Super Mario Bros." game in Japan (released in 1986), it never saw the light of day as an NES title in North America due to fears that it would deter people from the already-popular side-scrolling franchise. Aside from introducing poisonous mushrooms and bringing fish out of water (and Goombas into water), the game is basically a ramped-up version of the original "Super Mario Bros.", virtually continuing with the same story (Princess Toadstool. Bowser. Capturing. You know...) but increasing the difficulty through level design. It finally saw the light of day in North America as part of "Super Mario All-Stars" on the SNES, released seven years later. Despite this it was the best-selling Famicom game ever sold in Japan.

The third is the OrangSprint which only works when Lanky enters a barrel bearing his face. "The Sims" is a franchise based off the popular "SimCity" games. The first game was released in 2000 for the PC, which had sold more than 2 million copies by 2002. The next direct sequel, "The Sims 2", was released in 2004. "Star Trek: Legacy" was released for the XBOX 360 in late 2006. A version was also released for Windows-based PCs. The space combat game was released to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Star Trek. The game begins in the Enterprise Era under Captain Jonathan Archer. Then the player is able to assume the role of Captain James T. Kirk at the command of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) from the original series. Finally, players progress to the command of vessels from the Next Generation era.

The Eye Toy was a precursor to many later technologies seen in the proceeding generations of gaming. Released in 2003 and developed by Logitech, the device was a bit of a flop. Some games in the series (such as "Eye Toy: Kinetic") required even more add-ons to be used. Nonetheless, the Eye Toy became a lead-in device; the PlayStation 3 received the PlayStation Eye in 2007 and it was required for certain games like "Eye of Judgment". Other games to use the Eye Toy included several of the "Dance Dance Revolution" games, all of the games in the "MLB: The Show" series, and certain "Tony Hawk" skateboarding games. Obviously, swinging around on-screen was required for some of these more than others. It may have been home players' first chances to do so.

There is another way, but this one is more amusing. The museum gives you a really good insight into just how much detail is involved in putting a game together. Unlike the normal Breegull form of Kazooie, Banjo can grab his trusty companion and she'll shoot a stream of fire from her mouth to set enemies ablaze. You can switch back and forth between Kazooie's two forms at will as long as you jump back into Humba's pool. Kazooie will also appear in dragon form in cinematics if this form is selected.

With two microphones, one red and one blue, connected to an adapter with a USB, the player needs to complete songs much like in a game of karaoke. The only difference? Pitch is required. Like in "Rock Band" the game tracks the correct vocal pitch and scores accordingly. The first game in the series was released in 2004 on the PlayStation 2. Now, the series features many iterations and downloadable songs. An Xbox version of the game, "Lips", features the same sort of gimmick. Monkey See, Monkey Do: You are the singer! While a music video plays in the background, you can track your pitch onscreen to ensure that you pull off the proper note streaks to earn a high score. Because two players can play at once, head-to-head battles can be performed.

In four of the many tracks found in the Nintendo 64 Rare game, "Diddy Kong Racing", players could find special keys that allowed specific versus levels to be opened: Fire Mountain, Icicle Pyramid, Darkwater Beach, and Smokey Castle. These levels were unlike the other racing tracks of the game. In these, four players either tried to attack each other, beat each other to collect eggs, or hoarded bananas in order to prevail and win the match. One key could be found in one of the tracks of each zone. For example, the key for Fire mountain would be in one of the tracks of Dino Domain (check Ancient Lake!). Finishing all four levels (and winning) allowed players to collect quarters of the T. T. Amulet, required to beat the game and fight Wizpig a second time.

Level-5 is also known for "Dark Cloud" on the PS2, "Dragon Quest IX", and "White Knight Chronicles".
