In F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel "The Great Gatsby", Jay Gatsby (born James Gatz) was born in North Dakota. His family was very poor and Gatz had to work as a janitor to put himself through school, which he dropped out of. Gatz met and fell in love with Daisy Fey but she married a wealthy man and Gatz worked to obtain wealth by any means in hopes of winning her back.

After making his money, Gatsby moved to West Egg which was where Daisy and her husband Tom had relocated to.

He earned the nickname Low-Light because all he had with him was a flashlight with a dull beam of light. As an adult, Low-Light joined the Army and fought alongside G.I. Joe as an infantryman.
