Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who defeated Big E at the 2014 Judgement Day pay per view to win the Intercontinental Championship?

Answer: Wade Barrett

Wade Barrett was the victor of the tournament to see who would face Big E at Extreme Rules. Wade would defeat Big E for his fourth reign as Intercontinental Champion on May 4, 2014. Wade won his first Intercontinental Championship on March 11, 2011 by defeating Kofi Kingston. His first reign lasted for eighty nine days.
2. Who was the first African-American to hold the Intercontinental Championship?

Answer: Ahmed Johnson

Ahmed Johnson was a man on a mission in his pursuit of then Intercontinental Champion, Goldust. Ahmed had been embarrassed by Goldust a few weeks earlier. Goldust had given an unconscious Ahmed mouth to mouth on national television. Ahmed became the first African-American Intercontinental Champion on June 23, 1996.

The match was held at the King of the Ring in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The bout was physical and both men put up a good fight. Ahmed held the title for less than two months.
3. At what event did Ricky Steamboat defeat Randy Savage for the Intercontinental Title?

Answer: Wrestlemania III

"Wrestlemania III" was held in Pontiac, Michigan on March 29, 1987. The main event was the WWF World Heavyweight Championship defense by Hulk Hogan versus Andre The Giant. The bout I was truly looking forward to seeing was for the Intercontinental Championship. Ricky Steamboat had been chasing champion, Randy Savage for months.

The two men met at "Wrestlemania III" with George Steele in the corner of Ricky. Both wrestlers tried multiple times to pin their opponent to no avail. Ricky finally came out the victor in this title bout.

This was the first time the Intercontinental Championship had changed hands at a Wrestlemania.
4. Who did Lance Storm defeat for the Intercontinental Championship?

Answer: Albert

Albert had ended Kane's thirty seven day reign as Intercontinental Champion. He would meet the challenge of Lance Storm on the July 23, 2001 edition of Raw is War. Due to the outside interference of Mike Awesome and Hugh Morris, Lance was able to defeat Albert for the Intercontinental Championship. Morris would hit Albert with his own title while Awesome had the referee distracted. Lance would cover Albert for the pinfall and become the new Intercontinental Champion.

After the match was over, a large fight broke out in the ring.

This was the Invasion angle when the WCW and ECW were invading the WWF.
5. In what city did Kofi Kingston defeat The Miz for the Intercontinental Title?

Answer: Memphis

Kofi Kingston would defeat The Miz for his fourth reign as Intercontinental Champion in Memphis, Tennessee. The title would be won by Kofi on October 16, 2012. Kofi ended The Miz's first reign as Intercontinental Champion which lasted eighty five days. Kofi much like Rey Mysterio is a truly gifted performer. What both men lack in stature, they make up for in speed and agility.

They use their lightning fast reflexes to defeat much larger opponents.
6. Who defeated The Mountie for the Intercontinental Championship in Albany, New York?

Answer: Roddy Piper

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper would win his first championship gold in the WWF in the form of the Intercontinental Title. His victory came at the expense of "The Mountie" Jacques Rougeau. The Mountie had won the Intercontinental Championship just two days before from fellow Canadian, Bret Hart. Piper defeated Rougeau on January 19, 1992 at The Royal Rumble. Roddy held the Intercontinental Championship for seventy seven days before losing it to Bret Hart. I was so excited to see to Roddy win the Intercontinental Championship.
7. In what month did The Honky Tonk Man win the Intercontinental Championship?

Answer: June

Ricky Steamboat had successfully defended the title for over two months. The Honky Tonk Man defeated a stunned Ricky Steamboat on June 2, 1987 in Buffalo, New York. The look on Honky Tonk Man and Ricky Steamboat's face were priceless. Steamboat could not believe he had just lost to the Honky Tonk Man. I recall watching this match on television and being shocked and excited as well.

The Honky Tonk Man was one of my favorite wrestlers at the time. His Intercontinental Title reign lasted well over four hundred days.
8. Why did Steve Austin vacate his first Intercontinental Championship in 1997?

Answer: Steve had a neck injury.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin's first reign as champion lasted a little over a month. He would vacate the title due to a serious neck injury. Ironically the injury occurred during his bout for the Intercontinental Championship. He was wrestling Owen Hart for the Intercontinental Championship when he was injured. Stone Cold would return to action hell bent on reclaiming his title. Steve recaptured the Intercontinental Championship from Owen at Survivor Series on November 9, 1997.
9. What type of bout did Kane defeat Triple H in for his first Intercontinental Championship Title reign?

Answer: Chain Match

Kane and Triple H's feud came to a head at the 2001 pay per view Judgement Day. The match was held on May 20, 2001. The two men battered each other with the chain before they were even chained together. The bout went back and forth between these two awesome athletes.

They would both use the chain to pull each other out of the ring or into an object. Kane would bust Triple H wide open leaving him badly bleeding. Even with the outside interference by Steve Austin on Triple H's behalf; Kane was able to claim his first Intercontinental Championship. Kane would reign as champion for thirty seven days.
10. Who ended JBL's reign as Intercontinental Champion?

Answer: Rey Mysterio

John Bradshaw Layfield attacked Rey before the match even got underway. He kicked Rey in the face while the referee was giving instructions. John was obviously trying to end the bout quickly. As soon as the bell rang, it was all Rey Mysterious he went at JBL with a vengeance. Rey would pin John in twenty one seconds to win the Intercontinental Championship.

This bout was held at "Wrestlemania XXV" in Houston, Texas on April 5, 2009. Rey held the title for sixty three days before losing to Chris Jericho.
