Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Garden of Eden. The Ark. Joseph and his brothers.

Answer: Genesis

In the Book of Genesis, Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden until they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Noah and his family were on the Ark during the great flood caused by 40 days and 40 nights of rain. Joseph and his brothers were the children of the patriarch Jacob.
2. Bricks without straw. Ten Commandments. Parting the Red Sea.

Answer: Exodus

The Book of Exodus is the story of the escape of the Israelites from the land of Egypt. While enslaved in Egypt, the Israelites made clay bricks. Having to gather the straw themselves made the task harder. Moses came down from Mount Sinai with God's Ten Commandments on two stone tablets.

While escaping from Egypt, the Israelites were seemingly trapped at the shore of the Red Sea. When Moses held out his staff, God parted the waters, allowing the Israelites to escape.
3. Naomi. Boaz. Gleaning grain.

Answer: Ruth

In the Book of Ruth, Ruth accompanies her mother-in-law Naomi back to Israel after Ruth's husband dies. There, Ruth supports herself and Naomi by gleaning grain - that is, gathering grain that has been left on the ground after the harvest. Ruth eventually comes to the attention and approval of Boaz, a kinsman of Naomi's. Ruth and Boaz marry and their great-grandson is King David.
4. Solomon. The Queen of Sheba. Rehoboam.

Answer: 1 Kings

Solomon, the son of David, was said to be the wisest of Kings. The Queen of Sheba was a mysterious monarch from the south who visited Solomon. In the Book of Kings, Rehoboam, Solomon's son, said that he would be harsher than his father was. Soon after this, the Kingdom divided into the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah.
5. Prophet. A fiery furnace. Lion's den.

Answer: Daniel

The Book of Daniel tells the story of Daniel, a Jew in exile in the city of Babylon. In the book, three of Daniel's friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, are thrown in a furnace for refusing to worship the King's statue and are rescued by one like "the Son of God". Later, Daniel is thrown into the lion's den by another king for continuing to worship God. Daniel is able to survive this through the actions of an angel.
6. David. Hymns. The Lord is my shepherd.

Answer: Psalms

The Book of Psalms is the longest book in the Bible at 150 chapters. The Psalms are hymns to God. Many were said to have been originally composed by David. One of the most famous Psalms, the 23rd, begins "The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want."
7. A big fish. Three days. Nineveh.

Answer: Jonah

In the Book of Jonah, God commands Jonah to preach judgment to the city of Nineveh. Jonah does not want to and tries to escape on a boat. God has a "great fish" swallow Jonah. After Jonah prays for forgiveness, God allows Jonah to be freed. Jonah is able to then travel to Nineveh where his preaching causes the people of Nineveh to repent evil.
8. Jesus in the Temple. The Prodigal Son. The Good Samaritan.

Answer: Luke

The Gospel According to Luke is one of four accounts of Jesus's life and ministry on Earth. Luke's Gospel is the only one of the four that shows Jesus as a young boy (about 12) between his infancy and his ministry as an adult. In all four Gospels, Jesus tells parables - stories that help the people to understand Jesus's teaching. Two of the parables are the story of the Prodigal Son and the story of the Good Samaritan.
9. Paul of Tarsus. Pentecost.

Answer: Acts

The Acts (of the Apostles) is the story of the early Christian Church. After Jesus's ascension to heaven, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles (the first Pentecost). The Apostles, including Peter, and later Paul, spread the word of Christianity. The Acts of the Apostles ends with Paul under house arrest in Rome.
10. Paul. Letter. Love is Patient.

Answer: 1 Corinthians

The First Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians was written by the same Paul mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles. Epistle is simply a fancy word for a letter. Paul wrote this letter to the city of Corinth (in what is now Greece) giving them advice. One of the most famous passages of the letter runs as follows: "Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (13:4-7)
