Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Traverse, and I am a crossover vehicle. My "brother", you could say, is Equinox. My "parents" also make the Malibu, Silverado, and Corvette. What car manufacturer is my family?

Answer: Chevrolet

Chevrolet was founded by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant in 1911, and was acquired by General Motors in 1911. Chevrolet offers many different models for customers around the world. The Traverse is available in the Americas and the Middle East. The model was released in 2008.
2. We leave the house, and I am driven onto the westbound lanes on Interstate 90, as we exit the "Windy City". I pass O'Hare International Airport. What city is home?

Answer: Chicago

Chicago is one of the third largest cities in the United States. The city played an important part during the Prohibition Era, as gangsters such as Al Capone worked the streets and battled against the authorities. Any trip to Chicago has to include a Chicago deep dish pizza, which is said to have been first designed at Pizzeria Uno.
3. As we settle into the drive, the kids in the backseat break out the DVD player. I keep hearing the names Lightning McQueen, Mater, and Doc Hudson. The setting is Radiator Springs. What movie are the kids watching?

Answer: Cars

Cars was released in 2006 and starred Owen Wilson (Lightning McQueen), Paul Newman (Doc Hudson), and Larry the Cable Guy (Mater). While traveling across the US to the championship race, McQueen becomes separated from his hauler (Mac, voiced by John Ratzinberger) and discovers the small town of Radiator Springs.

While there, he develops friendships with the locals, who eventually unite him with his team and put Radiator Springs back on the map.
4. I'm cruising through South Dakota and I begin to see signs that tell me where to exit for the Black Hills National Forest. That's when Mom, in the passenger seat, says, "I've had a question about that on FunTrivia!" What was the question?

Answer: In what national park is Mount Rushmore located?

Located near Keystone, South Dakota in the Black Hills, the park was constructed during the Great Depression. Susan B. Anthony was originally planned to be the fourth face on the mountain, but a rider was passed on an appropriations bill preventing it. Eventually then-president Franklin D. Roosevelt was chosen as face number four.
5. We continue with a drive north into Canada, and I come to a stop in front of a Tim Hortons restaurant. Man, this place is packed; these Canucks must love their Timmies! If my driver was to come out with Tim's signature item, what would it be?

Answer: Coffee

Tim Hortons is a line of coffee shops located across Canada and in the northern United States. The company was started by NHL defenseman Tim Horton, who opened one in Hamilton, Ontario in 1964, while playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Many Tim Hortons share their building with a Wendy's.
6. Turning back to the east now, I enter Winnipeg, and am parked in a lot near the MTS Centre. The lot is full, and there is a lot of yelling, "Let's go Jets". In 2011, the NHL returned to Winnipeg, leaving which southern US city?

Answer: Atlanta, Georgia

The Atlanta Thrashers were the second NHL team to leave Atlanta in that city's history, after the Flames left for Calgary, Alberta. The original Winnipeg Jets left for Phoenix in 1996. The Thrashers were founded in 1999. In their first 11 seasons, Atlanta only made the playoffs once.

The team was bought by True North Sports and Entertainment, and with the NHL Board of Governor's approval, moved back to the prairies of Canada.
7. As I head east, we approach and pass Lake Superior, one of the Great Lakes. The inquisitive kids in the back ask their mother what the names of the five Great Lakes are. She tells them they can remember by using HOMES: Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior. HOMES is an example of what literary term?

Answer: Acronym

Another way to remember the names of the five Great Lakes is in mnemonic form "Super Man Helps Every One" (Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario). The five lakes are located on Canada's border with the United States, in the northeastern part of North America. Lake Michigan is the only lake fully enclosed in one of the two countries (the US).
8. As the drive continues, my owner decides he wants some music, so he turns my radio on. Now instead of listening to the human passengers, I get to hear songs like "Livin' on a Prayer", "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Billie Jean". Looks like he's turned on a radio station playing hits from what decade?

Answer: 1980s

"Don't Stop Believin'" was released by Journey in 1981, and was reborn by the cast of the TV musical "Glee" in 2009. Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" came out a year later in 1982, winning two Grammy awards and an American Music award. "Livin' on a Prayer" was released in 1986 by the band Bon Jovi. The song was voted the number one song of the '80s by VH1 in 2006.
9. I am entering Detroit, Michigan, now, in the United States, and little Suzy in the backseat exclaims that Johnny Depp is from here. Her brother quickly comes back with a sarcastic remark about Depp being from Kentucky, which is correct. Anyway, here are some people that actually were born in Michigan; can you identify which one wasn't?

Answer: Jimmy Hoffa

Although he disappeared in Detroit in 1975, Hoffa was born in Brazil, Indiana. McMahon was born on March 6, 1923, Wonder on May 13, 1950 and Modano on June 7, 1970. Johnny Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on June 9, 1963.
10. So we are finally home! Great, because I'm (pun intended) gassed. Anyway, as the parents unpack, little Tommy runs into the house saying he wants to play COD. Now, I assume he doesn't want to play with his pet fish; rather, he wants to play which video game?

Answer: Call of Duty

Call of Duty is a video game series, with the first issue released in 2003. The first games were set in World War II, and later releases included modern warfare and the Cold War. By 2009, Call of Duty had sold 55 million copies. The games run on all major platforms, most notably Xbox, Play Station 3, and Nintendo Wii.
