1. The witches were off on their travels in 'Witches Abroad' and Desiderata Hollow kicked it all off. Where did she go at the beginning of the story?

Answer: To her rest

 Desiderata's journey to the afterlife set the ball rolling in 'Witches Abroad'. She chatted to Death while drinking her final cup of tea. Her predicament was that Esme Weatherwax needed to go to Genua, but no one could tell Granny what to do. Desiderata explained how she planned to get Esme to Genua, then Death used his scythe and the witch 'went to her rest'.
2. Magrat received a letter telling her to go to Genua as a fairy godmother and to 'Tell those 2 old Biddys they are notte to come'. Why was Magrat told to go to a foreign country?

Answer: A girl called Ella was not allowed to marry the prince.

 According to Desiderata's letter, Ella Saturday was not allowed to marry the prince. Magrat needed to go to Genua and prevent the wedding. The old witch had left her magic wand to Magrat with an explicit instruction to tell Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg not to go with her. Of course, they immediately tried to take control of the situation.
3. On their way to Genua, which species did the witches find mining in the mountains?

Answer: Dwarfs

 Granny announced herself at the entrance to the cave expecting the dwarfs inside to know who she was. When her presence was announced, the king didn't seem particularly pleased. Granny's reputation preceded her. He was soon extremely grateful to have three witches in his mine: Magrat used the magic wand to turn a heap of collapsed rock into a pile of pumpkins.

She hadn't meant to, but pumpkins was all she could do.
4. Further on their travels, the witches came to an inn full of garlic and terrified townspeople. Why were they scared?

Answer: A vampire lived nearby.

 The witches thought it was weird that everyone retreated indoors before the sun had even fully set. Little did they know that the townspeople were plagued by a vampire. Luckily, three witches arrived! First Magrat threw open the shutters, unknowingly knocking a bat to the ground.

Then the creature had been hit with a garlic sausage that had been thrown out of the window by Granny. Finally Nanny Ogg's cat found it - and Greebo liked to play with his food.
5. In another town, the witches sat at a table outside an inn. The innkeeper had tried to take all of the tables and chairs inside, but the witches refused to move. What came running down the street towards them?

Answer: A group of bulls

 The little town had an annual event known as the Thing with the Bulls. The only people who didn't know about the Thing with the Bulls were the three foreign witches downing a bottle of Absinthe outside the inn. Even as the bulls approached, the witches refused to go inside. Granny Weatherwax had stood up and smacked the leading bull right between the eyes.

Then Magrat weaved between them and took the prize rosette from the largest bull. All the while, Nanny Ogg lay on the floor in fits of uncontrollable laughter.
6. How did Nanny Ogg lose all of the witches' money onboard a river boat?

Answer: She lost it all while gambling.

 Nanny Ogg had been playing Cripple Mr Onion. She was on a winning streak when she went all-in and lost everything - including her broom. Granny Weatherwax took the little change that they had left and set off to find the men who had cheated Nanny out of her winnings.

While pretending to be a novice, Granny frustrated the tricks the cheating gamblers had in store and eventually won back all their money, as well as Nanny's broomstick.
7. The witches came across a castle that was surrounded by brambles. What were the people doing inside?

Answer: Sleeping

 The castle had been sleeping for ten years: everyone inside was lying down and covered in spiders' webs. Eventually, the witches found a girl lying on a bed beside a spinning wheel. Granny muttered a spell and the girl quickly woke up, with the rest of the castle following suit. For some reason, the inhabitants seemed to recognise Granny Weatherwax and they weren't happy to see her...
8. As the witches edged closer to Genua, they encountered more fairy tales being played out by real people. Which creature tried to break into a grandmother's cottage?

Answer: A wolf

 The wolf fumbled with the latch and slowly pushed the door open. Once it was inside the cottage, Granny slammed the door shut and whacked the wolf over the head with a frying pan. Then Nanny Ogg - the decoy - climbed out of the bed and the two women dragged the creature outside.

While Borrowing the wolf's mind, Granny Weatherwax realised that the wolf was trying to be human. Someone was using the magic of stories to create real-life fairy tales.
9. Finally, the witches made it to Genua! They were looking for a local magician and after asking around, Nanny Ogg found a mysterious voodoo witch. What was her name?

Answer: Mrs. Gogol

 Mrs Gogol practised voodoo and took offence at Nanny's suggestion that voodoo was 'messin' with dolls and dead people and stuff'. Though she did admit to 'maybe just one zombie... when there ain't no alternative'. Ezulie Gogol wasn't the only witch in Genua. There was a much more powerful witch in charge.

Jadis was the witch in C.S. Lewis' 'The Chronicles of Narnia' and Sabrina Spellman was the title character in the comic and TV series, 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch'. Tia Dalma was a mystical character in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' film series.
10. Masks, shiny shoes, and a pumpkin coach. What event did the witches attend at the palace?

Answer: A ball

 She took some convincing, but Magrat arrived at the ball disguised as Emberella. Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg turned up uninvited by landing their broomsticks on the battlements and headed down the stairs. The masked ball was where Ella was supposed to meet the Duc for the first time, but the three witches from Lancre were going to put a stop to it.

That night, with the Duc returned to his usual form (a frog) and Lilith trapped in a mirror by her own magic, Ella was able to take her rightful place as heir to the Genua throne.
