1. Riggs learns that the death of his wife was murder, and not the result of a traffic accident.

Just before Riggs, having been placed in a straight jacket, is pushed into the water by thugs, Pieter Vorstedt (Derrick O'Connor) informs Riggs that he was the one who forced the car off the road. Riggs, the intended target, was not in the car. Victoria Riggs was the innocent victim.

2. Jack Travis shoots Leo Getz on the rink at an L.A. Kings hockey game, while the game is in progress.

While Travis (Stuart Wilson) is trying to escape by running across the ice, Leo (Joe Pesci) jumps on Travis' back. Leo is thrown to the ice, and is shot by Travis with what Riggs refers to as a dum-dum bullet. Leo's wound is minor, and he survives.

3. Both Sgt. Riggs and Sgt. Murtaugh are promoted to the rank of captain.

Amanda's body lands on the roof of a car with a thud. It is later determined through autopsy, that Amanda was injected with a fatal foreign substance before she jumped.

With family and friends in his home to watch airing of the commercial, Roger is shocked and embarrassed to learn that the commercial is for condoms.

7. Sergeant Lorna Cole makes her first appearance in the series.

Sgt. Cole (Rene Russo) shares an elevator ride with uniformed patrolmen Riggs and Murtaugh. Riggs sneaks a peek at the file folder she is carrying, and discovers that Sgt. Cole is conducting an Internal Affairs investigation.

While holding Arjen Rudd (Joss Ackland) and his henchmen at gun point, Riggs creates a diversion by firing a round into the fish tank, breaking the glass, and spilling water and fish all over the floor. Riggs leaves, waving at Rudd, and proclaiming, "big smile, big smile".
