Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In this early gangster film, the main character aptly dies in the gutter saying, 'Mother of Mercy. Is this the end of Rico?'

Answer: Little Caesar

Edward G. Robinson (1893-1973) came to fame immediately as 'Little Caesar' or Rico Carmonte. He established his future trademarks in this film such as chewing a cigar, the wise cracking voice and the desire akin to an obsession to be somebody. Although the film was completed in 1930, it didn't debut in New York City until January 9, 1931.
2. This 1932 film told the story of a gangster, who was overly protective of his lovely younger sister.

Answer: Scarface

Paul Muni (1895-1967) starred in the original version of 'Scarface'. The seriously troubled feelings his character has for his sister are more overt in this film because censorship was not severe at that time.
3. In this film, a murderous psychopath is overly attached to his mother, to whom he cries out upon his death.

Answer: White Heat

James Cagney (1899-1987) plays Cody Jarrett, the psychopathic killer who, in one amazing scene at the end of 'White Heat' (1949), screams out to his deceased, overprotective mother, "Top of the world, Ma."
4. The climax of this film occurs when the gangster, Duke Mantee, arrives on the scene.

Answer: The Petrified Forest

Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957) commands the scene when as Duke Mantee, he arrives with gun drawn ready to kill. His malevolent nature is palpable proving Bogart's amazing film acting skill.
5. Sideburns and black leather jackets became the rage in teen fashion when Johnny arrived on his Triumph motorcycle in this film.

Answer: The Wild One

Marlon Brando (1924-2004) is the epitome of the motorcycle wanderer, who looks for trouble and is against everything. His British Triumph motorcycle stood out from the rival gangs' Harley-Davidsons.
6. The bad boy's girlfriend famously says, "We rob banks" in this crime film based on real life characters from the '30s.

Answer: Bonnie and Clyde

'Bonnie and Clyde' (1967) romanticized the two real life robbers but also gave Warren Beatty (1937-) and Faye Dunaway (1941-) the roles of a lifetime.
7. Mr. Dadier is a harassed teacher in this '50s teen angst film.

Answer: The Blackboard Jungle

Glen Ford (1916-2006) played the beleaguered Mr. Dadier in 'The Blackboard Jungle' (1955). Vic Morrow (1929-1982) played Artie West, the cause of much of his teacher's torment.
8. Who can forget the naughty, sloppy and decidedly sexy meal enjoyed by this bad boy actor in a film set in 18th century England.

Answer: Albert Finney

Albert Finney (1936-) plays the roguish Tom Jones perfectly in the film of the same name and mixes humor and pathos in a tour de force performance from 1963.
9. This film is a benchmark for all teenage angst films. The hero is a bad boy, with the sensitivity required to make us like him.

Answer: Rebel Without a Cause

James Dean (1931-1955) created a character of such depth, that the angry teenager became his most famous role in a brief but extraordinary career.
10. Ryan O'Neal plays the outrageous Irish rogue and title character in this film set in the 18th century.

Answer: Barry Lyndon

Ryan O'Neal (1941-) considers this film his best screen performance.
