Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In all three of these movies ("Ever After", "A Cinderella Story" and "Ella Enchanted"), our Cinderella characters have something in common (though her name is not always Cinderella). Which of these is true of the character in the Cinderella role in all three movies?

Answer: She is forced to serve or work for her stepmother and/or stepsisters.

In each of the three movies, the character in the Cinderella role has to work for her stepmother and/or sisters. In "Ever After", Danielle is actually a servant in her own home. In "A Cinderella Story", Sam not only has to serve the family in the home but also work in the family's diner. Ella has to obey the bidding of her two evil stepsisters in and out of the home in "Ella Enchanted" (especially once they uncover her secret).
2. "Ever After" is one of my favorite movies. We have a handsome prince and a truly wicked stepmother. Which actress plays the role of Stepmother to Danielle?

Answer: Angelica Huston

Angelica Huston gave a very believable portrayal as Baroness Rodmilla de Ghent, Danielle's evil stepmother. She is also known for her work in "The Addams Family", "The Addams Family Values", and "The Royal Tenenbaums".
3. True to the Cinderella tale, Danielle has two stepsisters in "Ever After", but only one of them is actually evil while the other has redeeming qualities. What are the names of the stepsisters?

Answer: Marguerite and Jacqueline

Marguerite (Megan Dodds) is the traditional evil stepsister. Jacqueline (Melanie Lynskey) actually helps Danielle during the film (and even has to endure mistreatment from her mother). When Rodmilla and Marguerite get their just deserts at the end of the movie, Jacqueline is saved from the punishment because she was nice to Danielle.

Anastasia and Drizella are the stepsisters in the animated Disney version of "Cinderella". The other choices are characters from other literary works.
4. At the beginning of "Ever After", we see the Grande Dame having an audience with the Grimm brothers regarding their telling of the story of the Little Cinder Girl. The Grande Dame confirms that the Little Cinder Girl did actually exist and wants to "set the record straight" about Danielle's story and what kind of slipper she wore. What kind of slipper does she tell them Danielle wore?

Answer: Glass

The Brothers Grimm tell the Grande Dame that there is much confusion about what type of shoe was worn in the story of the Little Cinder Girl. The Grande Dame shows them the glass slipper belonging to Danielle and tells them Danielle's story.
5. "A Cinderella Story" (2004) is a modernization of the Cinderella story, set in a high school. Which singer stars as Sam, the Cinderella of the tale?

Answer: Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff plays Sam in "A Cinderella Story". She is also known for her roles in "Cheaper By the Dozen", "Raise Your Voice", and the "Lizzie McGuire" series.

The other three choices are all singers and have appeared in other movies, but not "A Cinderella Story". Britney Spears starred in "Crossroads"; Mandy Moore in "The Princess Diaries"; and Lindsay Lohan in "Herbie Fully Loaded".
6. The fairy godmother role (Rhonda) in "A Cinderella Story" was played by Regina King. Rhonda works in the diner Sam's father owned before he died. Sam needs to go to the costume party held at her school to finally meet her prince, with whom she has been communicating electronically. Rhonda helps Sam find her costume for the party. What do they use for Sam's costume?

Answer: Rhonda's wedding dress

A trip to the costume store proves unhelpful until Rhonda sees a white mask in a display. She says that she has a costume to go with it and takes Sam to her home. Rhonda alludes to being engaged in the past, but the wedding never happened. Her gown has been stored in a box ever since. She decides that the dress needed to be worn and gives it to Sam to wear to the party.
7. In "A Cinderella Story", Sam does not lose her slipper or shoe. What object does she drop on her way out of the party?

Answer: Cell phone

Sam drops her cell phone, and her prince (Austin, played by Chad Michael Murray) finds it. When Sam's stepsisters, Gabriella and Brianna, try to claim they were both his Cinderella, Austin asks them what object was dropped, knowing that only the true Cinderella can give him the correct answer of cell phone.

The other choices are guesses made by Gabriella and Brianna when they try to answer Austin's question.
8. Another movie in the Cinderella theme is "Ella Enchanted" (2004). Who plays the character of Ella in this film?

Answer: Anne Hathaway

The role of Ella is portrayed by Anne Hathaway. She has had roles in films such as "The Devil Wears Prada", "The Princess Diaries", and "Love and Other Drugs".

Vivica A. Fox is in "Ella Enchanted", but she plays the role of Lucinda. Amanda Bynes stars in "Sydney White", which was based on "Snow White". Emma Watson has starred in all of the "Harry Potter" films in the role of Hermione.
9. "Ella Enchanted" does veer a bit from the "Cinderella" theme. While she does have an evil stepmother and two evil stepsisters, Ella's father does not die at the beginning of the story. What happens to Ella's father that takes him away from home?

Answer: He gets a new job that requires him to travel.

Ella's father is seen early in the movie looking over job advertisements (my favorite was the Abacus Programmer) and talking about how they need the money. Shortly afterward, he leaves home to work as a traveling salesman.
10. In "Ella Enchanted", Ella has an interesting problem. She had been given the gift of obedience as a baby, and has to obey any command given to her. Because of the gift, she steals a pair of glass slippers as ordered by her stepsister, Hattie. As others discover the gift/curse, it is used against her, and she is told to do something by Prince Char's uncle. What does he order her to do at the stroke of midnight the night of Prince Char's coronation ball?

Answer: Kill Prince Char

Prince Char's uncle orders Ella to stab Prince Char in the hall of mirrors because he wants the crown for himself. She tries to avoid attending the ball but is unable to. Once in the hall of mirrors, she looks at herself in the mirror and says, "You will no longer be obedient!", thus breaking the curse.
