Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If a merry minstrel starts playing, David Bowie will sing.

Answer: Fame

iF A MErry minstrel.

"Fame" (1975) was released as a single from Bowie's "Young Americans" (1975) album and was his first number one single on both the Canadian charts and the Billboard Hot 100 in USA. The track features John Lennon on backing vocals and the wonderful Carlos Alomar on guitar and became a mainstay of Bowie's gigs, with 664 live performances, according to "setlist.fm".
2. When commuting on the tube, the music coming from MP3 players can be so annoying that KISS wrote a song about it.

Answer: Beth

tuBE, THe music

"Beth" was a huge hit for Kiss, in 1977 it earned them their first gold disc in USA and Canada, eventually peaking at seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and number five on the Canadian charts. Not bad at all for a track that was originally a B side on the "Detroit Rock City" single of the same year, and was only included on the "Destroyer" (1976) album to fill a space.
3. I am told by Radiohead that if I carefully fertilise this acre, epic amounts of wheat will grow.

Answer: Creep

this aCRE EPic

"Creep" was the first ever Radiohead track released as a single in 1992 from the "Pablo Honey" album of the same year and was something of a slow burner, not really finding popularity until the following year and becoming one of the band's best known tracks. In 2018 there were legal rumblings after Radiohead threatened to sue Lana Del Ray for songwriting credits due to the similarities between her "Get Free" song and "Creep" but these came to nothing, although in the 1990s, Radiohead were sued and had to give a songwriting credit to Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood due to similarities between "Creep" and "The Air That I Breathe" (1972) by the Hollies.
4. If the music sounds bad, get some better speakers is the advice offered by Cream

Answer: Badge

BAD GEt some

Although not a huge chart hit for Cream when it was released in 1969, it was one of the stand out tracks from their final album, "Goodbye" (1969). The track has a big Beatles connection as legend has it that while in the studio together, Eric Clapton was unable to read George Harrison's handwriting and mistook the word "bridge" for "badge", giving the title of the track and the lyric, "I told you 'bout the swans, that they live in the park" was coined by a drunk Ringo Starr.
5. If you intend to make a cash withdrawal, kindly request a receipt advise Pantera

Answer: Walk

withdraWAL Kindly

"Walk" from 1993 was Pantera's first major hit and found greatest success in UK where it peaked at number 35. After Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell was killed by a fan in 2004, an annual tribute festival called Dimebash emerged and the 2019 event saw Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters and Nirvana) and Corey Taylor (Slipknot) join former Pantera members for a rousing version of "Walk".
6. These quizzes can be tricky, so be really thorough like Tool.

Answer: Sober

SO BE Really

"Sober" (1993) was the debut single released from Tool's debut album, "Undertow" in 1993. It didn't trouble the charts much, but has since become a Tool classic and Maynard James Keenan's lyrics are believed to relate to the feelings of self hatred that can be brought on by addiction. A powerful song with an equally powerful, although slightly eerie video.
7. Deep Purple advised that Fu Manchu shaved his moustache, but only once.

Answer: Hush

Fu MancHU SHaved

"Hush" was originally a hit in 1967 for Billy Joe Royal, but the boys in Deep Purple made it their own when they covered it in 1968 debut album "Shades of Deep Purple" and reinforced this when they re released it in 1988, with the classic Deep Purple line up of Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice, Roger Glover and Jon Lord.
8. Imagine Dragons have made monster strides towards success from very humble beginnings.

Answer: Demons

maDE MONSter strides

A worldwide top ten hit for Imagine Dragons in 2013, "Demons" was a track from their debut album, "Night Visions" (2012). The song is about the pain that people can feel, yet not reveal through their public face and the video is dedicated to and features Imagine Dragons fan, Tyler Robinson who died at age 17 in 2013 from a rare form of cancer. The band, with his family have since formed the charity, the Tyler Robinson Foundation to assist people affected by pediatric cancer.
9. Feedback is appreciated. Don't forget I'm eagerly awaiting it, just like Pink Floyd.

Answer: Time

forgeT I'M Eagerly

Clocks ticking and alarms ringing herald the passing of time before the opening line of "Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day" in this classic track from the 1973 album, "The Dark Side Of The Moon". The track was released as a single in USA, on the B side to "Us And Them", but had to be trimmed considerably from its almost seven minute length on the album to a more chart friendly three and a half minutes, but to no avail as it failed to crack the Billboard Hot 100.
10. Now it's time to go, never forget to end a quiz with Metallica.

Answer: One

gO NEver forget

From the band's 1988 album, "...And Justice For All", "One" is regarded as a modern metal classic and is a powerful anti war song, with the video using clips from 1971 movie, "Johnny Got His Gun". The song did particularly well in Scandinavia, reaching number one in Finland and also charting top five in Norway and Sweden.
