Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who have Dean and Gene Ween claimed to "worship" since their first album?

Answer: Boognish

Legend has it that when Dean and Gene first met each other they were not even friends. Then the demon-god Boognish appeared to them, holding a scepter of wealth and power, and inspired them to form a spiritual bond to appease him. However, this is, of course, simply a joke invented by Dean and Gene upon the release of their first album, 1990's "GodWeenSatan: The Oneness."
2. Finish this lyric: "Smile, almighty Jesus, _____."

Answer: spinal meningitis got me down

"Spinal Meningitis" is one of Ween's most twisted tunes, from their 1994 album "Chocolate and Cheese."
3. Where is Ween from?

Answer: New Hope, Pennsylvania

They met while in junior high typing class in 1984 and are still living and making music in New Hope to this day.
4. What are Dean and Gene's real names?

Answer: Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman

They're not really brothers. Deaner (Mickey) is Italian and Gener (Aaron) is Jewish.
5. Ween plays an extremely wide range of musical genres. Which genre did Ween dedicate an entire 1996 album to?

Answer: Country

Ween is the most musically diverse band on the planet. They've done folk, pop, funk, reggae, techno, metal, you name it. In fact, many of their songs sound to a lot of people like they are performed by completely different bands.
1996's "12 Golden Country Greats" (recorded in 1995) was entirely dedicated to playing country music with the help of several legendary Nashville session musicians, who have had previous experience recording with the likes of Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, and Johnny Cash.
6. Usually Gene Ween sings and plays rhythm guitar while Dean Ween tears it up on lead guitar. Yet Dean has been known to take the mic occasionally. Which of the following songs is sung by the Deaner?

Answer: "The Blarney Stone"

Deaner sings "The Blarney Stone" from 1997's "The Mollusk," a fan favorite when played live.
7. Ween's talent for catchy melodies has been called upon by several companies and TV and movie producers. Which of the following has Ween NOT written music for?

Answer: The Rugrats Movie

Ween wrote the song "Loop de Loop" for an episode of "Spongebob Squarepants," and their song "Ocean Man" (from 97's "The Mollusk") plays through the end credits of the "Spongebob" movie. They also wrote the theme music for the Fox sitcom "Grounded for Life." Pizza Hut notoriously asked Ween to make a 30 second song about stuffed crust for a commercial and they gave them the strange "Where'd th' Cheese Go?" Needless to say, it was rejected but can be found in extended form on their 2003 live album "All Request Live."
8. What was Ween's breakout single that briefly played on MTV and rock radio in the nineties?

Answer: "Push th' Little Daisies"

"Push th' Little Daisies", from 1993's "Pure Guava," is one of Ween's quirky early numbers, featuring altered vocals and a bizarre electronic drum track. It played on MTV's "Beavis and Butthead" and would unfortunately typecast Ween as a comedy act rather than a duo of legitimate musicians. Ween's later, more complex work, has been mostly out of the public eye, yet it is adored, along with their early material, by a loyal fanbase.
9. Finish this lyric "When you've had your fun/And work is done _____"

Answer: You must not succumb

This comes from the song "Pork Roll Egg and Cheese" off their 1991 album "The Pod," one of the strangest records of the 20th century. It was recorded to a cheap four-track tape recorder in a small apartment on a horse farm where they both performed mind-altering experiments and suffered from mononucleosis.

The album thoroughly reflects these conditions and strangely features near constant references to pork roll sandwiches, Eddie Dingle, jammy packs, Van Winkle, and a mythical freak known as The Stallion.

It is a dark, murky, and very weird trip.
10. Which one of these Ween albums was released in 2003?

Answer: Quebec

"Quebec" features classics like "It's Gonna Be a Long Night," "The Argus," "Happy Colored Marbles," and "Transdermal Celebration."
