Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The beginning of the song describes our hero's surroundings as he sits oh-so-proudly in his castle. What substance makes up Wonderboy's castle?

Answer: clouds

"High above the mucky-muck, castle made of clouds;
There sits Wonderboy, sitting oh-so-proudly."

Wonderboy's castle is most likely made up of cumulonimbus clouds. They are the densest of clouds, having bodies comprised of water droplets with frozen, anvil shaped tops. They are also usually the causes of severe weather, which may explain why there is so much 'mucky-muck' below.
2. Now it's time for a question about Young Nasty Man. What is his relationship to Wonderboy?

Answer: arch-rival and nemesis

Not only that, but as the next line tells us, he also possesses powers comparable to Wonderboy!

Nemesis was the Greco-Roman goddess of divine retribution. She later became known as the punisher of hubris and avenger of crime. In Rome, she was worshipped by victorious generals and was the patroness of gladiators.
3. What is the first power mentioned in the song when describing powers that are comparable to Wonderboy?

Answer: flight

"That do anything for ya? That's levitation, Holmes!"

Levitation can be described as the process by which an object is suspended against gravity, in a stable position, by a force without physical contact.

There are several non-supernatural forms of levitation that are used daily, such as magnetic levitation (used in maglev trains, like those in Shanghai and Japan) and aerodynamic levitation (used in hovercraft and air hockey tables).
4. What is the second power named?

Answer: mind bullets

More specifically, "the power to kill a yak from 200 yards away...with mind bullets. THAT's telekinesis, Kyle!"

Telekinesis is the ability of the mind to influence matter, time, space, or energy without use of physical means. The term was originally used to describe the movement of objects by spirits or other unseen forces during séances. Not wanting to be associated with practices which were widely proven to be fraudulent, most parapsychologists prefer the term 'psychokenises'. However, popular media such as films and literature over the years has preferred 'telekinesis' due to the word's resemblance to other paranormal terms, such as telepathy and teleportation.
5. Which is the final, and arguably the most profound power mentioned in the song?

Answer: the power to move you

"The Way You Move" is a 2003 single recorded by Big Boi of the hip-hop duo OutKast. It spent eight weeks at the number two position behind OutKast's previous single, "Hey Ya!" On February 7, 2004, it finally replaced "Hey Ya!" at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for one week.

The similarly tilted "I Like the Way (You Move)" was released in 2005 by Australian DJ duo the BodyRockers. The song is slowly becoming a hit in the US charts due to use in several commercials and television shows.
6. Which of the following is listed in the song as having had a part in the history of Wonderboy and Young Nasty Man?

Answer: both

According to the lyrics, the history of Wonderboy and Young Nasty Man includes a secret to be told, a gold chest to behold, and a blasting forth with three part harmony.

One of the most well known "secret gold chests" is the fabled buried treasure of Captain William Kidd. Kidd's purported horde has made its way into popular legend through the works of Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, and most famously Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island". Some of the supposed burial sites include Oak Island in Nova Scotia, Gardiner's Island in New York, Charles Island in Connecticut, and in the Thimble Islands, also in Connecticut.
7. What band is formed when Wonderboy and Young Nasty Man join forces?

Answer: Tenacious D

Tenacious D is a comedy rock duo comprised of musician/actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass, with Black providing generally theatrical vocals and Gass playing guitar. The band first gained popularity in 1999 starring in an eponymous television series on HBO, in which they attempted to establish themselves as the "Greatest Band on Earth". In addition, they have since recorded two albums, and starred in their own movie, "Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny".

"Wonderboy" tells of the mythic forming of the band's beginning, with Jack taking the role of Wonderboy and Kyle as Young Nasty Man.
8. With what weapon does Young Nasty Man fight?

Answer: broadsword

The term 'broadsword' was originally used to describe a particular design of straight-bladed, double-edged, basket-hilted swords; such as the Italian schiavona. In modern usage, it can describe any sword made for cutting and slashing, such as the two-handed claymore, having wider blades than their fencing counterparts, which primarily focus on thrusting and stabbing.
9. What mythological monster do Wonderboy and Young Nasty Man fight?

Answer: Hydra

In Greek Mythology, the Hydra was a multi-headed snake-like creature that guarded the underwater entrance to the Underworld. It was slain by Heracles during the second of what would become his Twelve Labours.

Astronomically, Hydra has fared better, having given its name to the largest constellation in the sky and, more recently, the outer-most moon of the dwarf planet, Pluto.
10. At the end of the song, with what does the singer say to fill the crevasse with?

Answer: Mighty Juice

A crevasse is a fracture in a glacier caused by large tensile stresses at or near the glacier's surface. Crevasses often have vertical or near-vertical walls, which sometimes expose layers that represent the glacier's stratigraphy.

Thanks for taking my "Wonderboy" quiz! It's a great song from a great band, and if you haven't had the chance to check the rest of Tenacious D's music out you really should.
