Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Greenock Morton: They won the Scottish Cup for the first time in 1922, but who did they defeat in the final?

Answer: Rangers

A narrow 1-0 victory. After the match, the team had time to get changed and board a train for a pre-arranged friendly with Hartlepool. How times have changed.
2. Clyde: Which of the following represented Scotland in the World Cup Finals as a Clyde player?

Answer: Harry Haddock (1958)

Although Baird also played in the 1958 Finals in Sweden, scoring against France, he was by then a member of Glasgow Rangers. Haddock spent his entire career with the "Bully Wee", retiring in 1962.
3. Hamilton Academicals: What nationality is Accies centre forward, Richard Offiong?

Answer: English

He was born in South Shields in 1983.
4. Dundee: Who did they lose to in the semi-final of the 1962-63 European Cup?

Answer: AC Milan

Dundee beat the others on their way to the semi-finals, only to lose to the eventual trophy winners by an aggregate score of 5-2 (although they did win the 2nd leg at home, 1-0). The final that year was played at Wembley Stadium.
5. Dunfermline Athletic: Which of the following is "the Pars" most capped player?

Answer: Istvan Kozma (Hungary)

Kozma was capped 40 times for his country. Ruitenbeek is the odd-man-out having never played for his country.
6. Livingston: What name were they known by when they first joined the Scottish Football League?

Answer: Meadowbank Thistle

Ferranti Thistle won the race to replace Third Lanark in the league in 1974, however, they weren't allowed to use the name (which came from their time as a factory team) due to league rules on sponsorhip at the time.
7. Partick Thistle: Which of the following competitions did they win in 1993?

Answer: Tennents' Sixes

They beat Airdrieonians 4-3 in the final of this six-a-side tournament. They are technically still the holders, as the sponsors pulled out after that season and the competition has not been played since.
8. Queen of the South: Often referred to as the only league club in the UK to be mentioned in the Bible, in which book do "they" appear?

Answer: Luke

"The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgement with the men of this generation, and condemn them" (Luke 11:31).
9. Stirling Albion: They played their home games at Forthbank, which was also the name of the town's previous football team, King's Park. What happened that caused King's Park to leave the Scottish League?

Answer: Their ground was damaged by a German bomb

Stirling Albion used to play their home games at Annfield Park, which was the site of the first artificial playing surface in Scotland.
10. St Johnstone: Which of the following former Saintees did not represent Northern Ireland at international level?

Answer: Vinny Arkins

Arkins was from the Republic of Ireland. Although he played at various youth levels for his country, he never represented them at full international level. Only Griffin was capped during his time with the Saints.
