Answer: 40

Halas actually coached the Bears for 39 1/2 seasons, as he left 5 games into the 1942 season to fight in WWII in the Navy. He coached the team in 4 different 10 year stints. His first season was the NFL's first season of 1920, and his last season coaching the team was 1967.
2. What season marked the last time the Bears were NFL champions before they won Super Bowl XX?

Answer: 1963

The Bears beat the New York Giants 14-10 in the 1963 NFL Championship, George Halas' last championship win. They had beaten the Giants in the 1946 championship 24-14, and lost to them in the 1956 game, 47-7. 1969 was two years after Halas' retirement, and the Bears finished 1-13.

Answer: True

Tight end and later head coach, Mike Ditka had an outstanding playing career. Statistically, his best season was his rookie season of 1961 when he caught 56 passes for 1,076 yards and 12 touchdowns. Ditka became the first tight end ever inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1988, while he was the team's head coach.
4. What team beat the Bears in the NFC divisional playoffs in Chicago in 1986 and 1987, the two years following their first Super Bowl win?
