Answer: 1867

The club were known as 'The Wednesday' from its inception up until 1929. Their first season in the Football League wasn't a good one as they finished 12th out of 16 clubs in Division One.

Answer: Highfield

Wednesday played at Highfield between 1867-68, Myrtle Road until 1877, Sheaf House between 1877-87, and Olive Grove until 1898 when they moved into Hillsborough.
3. Who was the club's first manager in their history?

Answer: Arthur Dickinson

Dickinson was Wednesday's manager between 1891-1920. Brown had a spell between 1920-23, with Walker taking the chair between 1933-37. McMullan was the manager between 1937-42. Other Sheffield Wednesday manager over the years have included Ron Atkinson, Howard Wilkinson, Danny Wilson, and Trevor Francis.
4. Wednesday were Football League champions four times during the 20th century. Which of these seasons was their first title success?

Answer: 1902-03

The Wednesday won the 1902-03 title by just one point over second-placed Aston Villa, with Sunderland finishing the season in third. Grimsby Town and Bolton Wanderers were relegated that season. A year later, they took the title by three points over Manchester City, with Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion relegated.

In the 1928-29 season they won the title for a third time, pipping Leicester City by a single point. Bury and Cardiff City were relegated. In their first season known as Sheffield Wednesday (1929-30), they took the title by 10 points over Derby County. Burnley and Everton were relegated.

Answer: Brian Deane

Deane did, however, play for rivals Sheffield United. He also played for Doncaster, Leeds United, Benfica, Middlesbrough, Leicester City, West Ham United, and Sunderland. Waddle played 147 times for the Owls, scoring 15 goals. Di Canio made 48 appearances, with 17 goals, while Hirst amassed 358 games for the club, scoring 149 goals.

Answer: Players could only play on Wednesday

The original Wednesday players were made up of working class people. These players could only be released from their work places on a Wednesday to play their games.
7. Where did Sheffield Wednesday sign Jon-Paul McGovern from in 2004?

Answer: Livingston

McGovern began his career in his native Scotland with Celtic in 2002. From there, he moved on to Sheffield United for a three-month loan spell, before Livingston had one season out of him. The midfielder signed for Wednesday in June, 2004.

Casper played for Manchester United, Bournemouth, Swindon Town, and Reading during his career. Woods played 107 League games in goal for the Owls. Waddle made 111 League appearances for the club, and Turner played a total of 115 games.
