Yes, dsimpy... have a great time. Always nice to be on holiday :-) Not much going on in New Jersey. Pouring down rain. It's been hot here, as well, so a welcome relief, but we're expecting upwards of 90F/32C by Tuesday. Do most use air conditioning in Ireland, or do you rely on breezes and cool evenings? Reply #161. Not many people have air conditioning (I only know people that have it in their car). Up to two weeks ago there was never a need for it. No point buying something you'll rarely use. Normally we only get about five days a year of warm weather but it has never been this hot before. At the start of the week the temperatures never dropped at night but started to do so from Wednesday onwards and we were lucky here in Meath, been near the sea, there was a light breeze during the day and into the evening. It's the people living in the centre of Ireland I felt sorry for. Down to 22 here today. That's my ideal temperature, that 28-30 is too much. Good luck with your 32 postcards, is that normal New Jersey summer weather? Reply #162. Jul 13 13, 1:54 PM |

Dia, 32 is normal several ties throughout the Summer. If it's 32 or above for 3 days, or more, it is called a heat wave. This week, we may even hit 100F/37C for a day or two :-p Air conditioning is a must (horrible if there's a power cut), and I often wonder about people in times past, who wore more clothing, and had no electricity :-0 I think it's all relative to what you're used to. My sister-in-law spent a couple of years in the Peace Corps in Niger, and came back wearing sweaters in the summer. We all thought she was nuts (well, she is, but that's another story LOL) Reply #163. Jul 13 13, 5:54 PM |

It has been an extremely cool summer here in the Midwest; the past couple of days are the only really hot ones we've had all year, and even they weren't that bad. Yesterday it got up to 91 degrees (32C), but today it is going to start cooling down again, with a high of 85 (29C). Last year at this time it was 106 (41C) for three days in a row! I agree about air conditioning; it and the string bikini are mankind's greatest inventions. Reply #165. Jul 20 13, 6:56 AM |

dsimpy would probably have won July, as well, if he hadn't gone off on holiday for two days LOL Reply #176. Aug 01 13, 12:42 PM |

I went all round Arranmore Island looking for an internet connection for those two days, but no joy!! :)) I went into the Cultural Centre on the island that had a big sign outside saying 'internet access here'. "Can I use the internet?" sez I to the guy behind the desk. "No," he sez, "the stick thing that goes into the computer is in the other building!" Now I'd no idea where 'the other building' was, but the island's small enough to throw a stone across, so sez I to him: "Can I go to the other building and use it there?" "No," sez he, "the other building's locked up for the weekend!" Useful that!! So that was that then, Funtrivia-less for days! :) Reply #177. Aug 01 13, 2:32 PM |

In a million years I never would have dreamed ... My kids and I are heading off shortly to watch an ice hockey match as part of the 2013 World Police and Fire Games in Belfast. Of course we wouldn't if the PSNI were playing ... the peace process isn't THAT deeply embedded! ... but it's New York Fire Department v Tampere Police Dept (just looked Tampere up, it's in Finland). Still, there's peelers involved!! After that we're heading to Belfast city hall where Cara Dillon is giving a free concert as part of Féile an Phobal - should be good. ... if I'm feeling sleazy enough I may drive up to Portrush on Wednesday for the women's beach volleyball component of the World Police and Fire Games. It's quite a long drive, but there's FOUR Brazilian teams playing!! ;-) Reply #179. Aug 03 13, 6:41 AM |
