Well I bombed out of Fantasy - sorry to those who misguidedly selected me! - I need a drink now. :) Reply #281. Oct 10 13, 2:09 AM |

"I have Irish, Scottish, Welsh, American, Canadian, Australian, Swedish, and Indian whiskeys. Never mix them with anything though, except occasionally a splash of spring water." You drink whiskey neat? Wow, I bet that burns all the way down. I tried it once, on a bet. It didn't end up well. The whiskey was called Wild Turkey. I was called a wimpy turkey. ;-D Reply #282. It's fine so long as you sip, don't gulp! :) Unless it's something like the bottle of George T. Stagg bourbon I have, at 141 degrees proof (70.5% ABV) ... I'd take a first sip straight, but then finish it off with a splash of water. Drink too much of that at one go and you'd do serious damage! :) Reply #283. Oct 10 13, 2:06 PM |

I'm sticking with beer. Nice buzz. No hangover. OK, maybe a little one. Here's why. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PGwjhkiWlE Reply #287. Oct 13 13, 2:07 PM |

Maker's Mark gets my vote - good whiskey, whatever the colour of the wax top! :) And I want to be drinking with Chavs when she's opening a 60-year old bottle of whiskey. Oh yeah! :) Reply #288. Oct 13 13, 3:16 PM |

I have just submitted a quiz called "No Love Lost: Prelude To the Irish Civil War." Assuming it makes it online (my relations with several editors not being exactly cordial), some of you might find it interesting. It is not about the Civil War itself, but deals with the events from the ratification of the Anglo-Irish Treaty to the siege of the Four Courts. If you are familiar with Irish history, it should be pretty easy. I had to write it for that [expletive deleted] Ascension Quest thing. Alas, I fear I shall remain unascended forever. Reply #292. My quiz is online already! Must be a record. Here's the link to it (I think). http://www.funtrivia.com/trivia-quiz/History/No-Love-Lost--Prelude-To-the-Irish-Civil-War-363451.html Reply #294. Oct 23 13, 5:37 PM |

I played it - it's dead interesting! :) The one question I guessed I got wrong (who'd ever have thought Limerick was first in anything!!) :-0 Reply #295. Oct 23 13, 6:20 PM |

Thanks for playing, Daithi! I started writing a quiz about the Civil War, and halfway through it I realized I would either have to write a 25 question quiz or else limit it to the preliminary events. Hope I wasn't too hard on Michael Collins. I tried to be objective, but that's hard when you have a picture of Cathal Brugha hanging on your living room wall :) Reply #296. Oct 23 13, 6:52 PM |

Did youse all have the trick or treaters round last night? Over a three-hour period I reckon about a hundred kids called to my door (including a few chancers who'd seen more than their share of Halloweens and looked like they were heading out clubbing after they'd stuffed their faces with sweets!). I'm paranoid about not having enough sweets, chocolates and crisps to hand out, so no matter how many call round I'm always left with enough to last for the rest of the year! :) It was good craic though, although the demise in recent years of some decent Halloween singing on the doorstep is woeful! :) Reply #298. I used to get a hundred, but this year, just one ring of the doorbell. I think most go to areas where the homes are nicer, and the streets are safer. Reply #299. Nov 03 13, 9:04 AM |

You got one more than I did postcards. :) The only children on my road are related to me and they don't go trick or treating, not even to my house. The road isn't all that well lit up at night so the other children in the village avoid coming down this far from home. dsimpy, Did you just give them sweets or did you make them work for them? :) When I was younger we'd always go to the same houses every year (neighbours) but one couple would make us do things in return for sweets, like run around their garden a few times, it'd tire us out but they always gave the most sweets so we were more than happy to return every year.
