"Police and Fire Games in Belfast."

This sounds a strange event.

But then, the other day I heard of a children's entertainment idea that I thought must be a practical joke. Apparently someone called Jungle Joe or the like visits parties and creches with his crocodile and snake. Proper big ones. The croc is about 4 foot.

Crocodile. Creche. Who comes up with these ideas?

(Kids loved it.)

Well, the big news here is that Pat Kenny has left RTE. Gasp. Shock. Awe. Etc.

Is anyone upset?

A few days ago I discovered we can get some RTE programming on one of our cable channels. It's a channel called MhzW, We get RTE Six One News each day at 5 PM, and other occasional programs.

And is it interesting? I don't often listen but I confess to listening to BBC radio4 and therefore being more in touch with the British news than Irish. It's just that BBC Radio4 is really good! :/

Chavs, I was in Belfast last week especially to have coffee with our dsimpy (well, not just to see him, but we did have coffee :-) ) and the town was teaming with Police and Fire Games athletes. We had the games in Calgary in 1997...a roaring success. They're very popular. How was the beach volleyball Daithe or did you manage to hold yourself back? ;-)

And very nice coffee it was too! :)

Nope, never got to the beach volleyball. A friend invited herself to lunch at the last minute, so I substituted real life for sports voyeurism. :)

After you left Belfast, Barbara, things heated up a bit - some people were a bit tired of promoting a positive image of the city - and we had an incident of Mayor-mugging, and then city-centre rioting in Donegall Place and Royal Avenue.

When will people learn - Keep Calm and Drink Coffee! :))

I think we can conclude that Barbarini is a good influence. On both Belfast and Dsimpy. :)

I'm a virtual Irishman but I avoid virtual pubs. Beer tastes better at Kelly's in Belfast.

Welcome Morpheus. Kelly's is good, Madden's - just round the corner - is probably better. :)

Hi Morpheus :)

Of course for Guinness you need to get to Dublin obviously.

Fair enough. But then straight back to Belfast for everything else that's best about Ireland! :)

Including me, I'm moving to Belfast (again), third time in about twenty years. This time I have a lovely flat overlooking Sandy Row!

It'll be handy for all-day drinking on the street outside The Royal Bar! ;-)

Indeed! I like the way you think, men. Beer and perhaps a friendly game of chess to while away the hours. Darn tootin';-D

I'm with you on the chess, Morpheus. But it doesn't sound much like the clientele of The Royal. They're more likely to be tattooing each other with broken beer bottles and sewer sludge!

I took my daughter into Belfast city centre this evening to watch Kick-Ass 2 at the Moviehouse. As is her custom she was appropriately dressed for the occasion, this time in full Hit-Girl costume.

On our drive home across Sandy Row and along Donegall Road we encountered a picket of about eight women in the middle of the road with a banner which read "'The Village' supports the Union - the Union Jack will always remain our national flag".

They'll never know how lucky they were I didn't stop the car and unleash Hit-Girl on them! :)
