CONGRATS to Dsimpy for a masterful January win! Our first 2014 champ. :)

The Runners-up were all very close to each other, it was nail-biting - so well played all!

New month, clean sheet, and it's anyone's game again. Moncher is making a sprint for February Champ already! Good luck all.

Our Category Schedule this week:

Monday: Olympics
Tuesday: Animals
Wednesday: Movies 2 : Intermediate
Thursday: People 1 : Easier
Friday: Olympics
Saturday: Music 2 : Intermediate
Sunday: General Knowledge 3 : Average

Judging by our general lack of enthusiasm for the sport category, I imagine we'll all be making a few wild guesses on Monday and Friday - and the quizzes are quite specific so be prepared to be thrilled with just crossing the line (I know I'll be thrilled anyway) -- and prepare for some tough questions.

But at least we'll be in the mood for them when they start this week.

And if the NSA and GCHQ - or anyone else reading this - wants to join in with the quiz, we'd be delighted to see you there! Always an Open House - come on in.

I'll probably be offline for a few days so I am changing this week's line up early and shooshing away the olympics.

I'm back to normality again, instead of playing with an intermittent internet and on various devices and machines that befuddled me. Had a go at changing the categories yesterday and was only partly successful but next week the special category will change again (so any requests?)

Meanwhile:

Our Category Schedule:

Tuesday: World: Europe

A little challenge for anyone who'd like it:

Define 'flahuluch'. Actually, SPELL flahulach. There are various attempts at both on the internet but I never feel any of them are quite right.

Today I dragged myself away from the computer long enough to go into town and purchase a new bicycle.

I'm a bit jealous. I keep thinking about buying a bike. I probably will, but it's a bit down the road (no pun intended). I'm trying to concentrate on running at the moment. I haven't done a run for the past month since a podiatrist told me one of my legs is longer than the other(!), but I'm getting a customised insole fitted on Wednesday so I hope I'll be back in action then! :)

I hope both your legs touch the ground now!
And no better day for it than today!

Seasonal Saint Patrick Salutations one and all :)

Yes I'm happily huffing and puffing my way around Derriaghy on a thrice-weekly basis, doing my best to look athletic any time I pass someone standing at a bus stop (and collapsing in a heap once I'm out of view!).

I've got this GPS running gadget which talks to me and says encouraging things like 'congratulations - you've just run your fastest mile so far' and 'remember to keep your shoulders back when you run downhill' - which is kind of fun! :)

We're a bit low on playing numbers for the Virtual Irish Pub quiz these days .... ahhh! ... so if each current player could recruit a pal to play, if each former player could come back and play as often as possible, and if anyone reading this from that vast global diaspora that is people of Irish descent could join in ... well, we'd soon have a thriving competitive tournament once again! :))

Got digs sorted. I'll be able to follow the Giro d'Italia for the three days it's in Ireland.

So, how was the Giro, Rusty? I watched the three days on BBC but the commentary was dreadful. Compared to the Beeb's coverage of the Tour de France (which is usually excellent) the camera coverage AND the commentary on the Giro was sloppy, irritating and condescending.

Indeed. Thought the Giro was fantastic, great atmosphere et al. Didn't see myself on the telly though :(

Came dangerously close to picking up a drunk Scottish lass last night.

Dangerous is probably right. ;-)

Did she have a flute sticking out of her back pocket?
