The king declared Portugal's independence in 1143, but te Pope only recognised it on 23rd May 1179.
2. In what year were the official Portuguese borders with Castille first defined?

Answer: 1297

The borders were agreed and formaly accepted by both coutnries on the 12th September 1297.
3. Isabel of Aragon, the wife of the 5th King of Portugal, King Dinis, was later considered a saint due to several miracles.

Answer: True

This Queen was officially made a saint in 1625 by the Vatican and remains very dear to the Portuguese people.
