"Daydream Believer" Lyrics
"Daydream Believer" was a major Number One Billboard 100 hit for The Monkees in 1967. Sometimes we all need to believe in daydreams, so can you piece together the lyrics to this fantastic song?
Last 3 plays: Gonzogirl (16/16), mazza47 (16/16), Fifiscot (14/16).
"Oh, I could 'neath the
Of the as she sings
The six o'clock would never ring
But it and I rise the sleep out of my eyes
My shavin' razor's and it
Cheer up, Jean
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?
You once of me
As a knight on his steed
Now you know how I can be
Oh, and our good starts and ends dollar one to spend
But how much, baby, do we really ?
Cheer up, Jean
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?"
The Monkees, a group consisting of Englishman Davy Jones and Americans Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, and Peter Tork, was an act created by NBC in 1965 for a television series that featured the band getting into all kinds of zany adventures. Although they were initially restricted from playing their own instruments on the songs that were released under the name The Monkees, by the time "Daydream Believer" was released in 1967, Jones, Nesmith, Dolenz, and Tork had famously taken control of their music, and were recording as a legitimate band. The song is sung by Jones with backing vocals from Dolenz, while Nesmith and Tork play guitar and piano respectively in the recording.
"Daydream Believer", written by John Stewart of The Kingston Trio, was the last of three Number One singles for The Monkees; it reached this spot in America, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa. Stewart recorded his own version in 1971, and it also became a hit for Canadian country singer Anne Murray when she made her version in 1979.
The song is uplifting and is sung from the perspective of a man who is trying to cheer up someone, likely his wife. It's great to sing along to, and is one of my favorite Monkees tunes!
