Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Here is a list of the MVPs of the 1990s in chronological order:

American League (AL): Rickey Henderson, Cal Ripken Jr., Dennis Eckersley, Frank Thomas (x2), Mo Vaughn, Juan Gonzalez, Ken Griffey Jr., Juan Gonzalez (2), Ivan Rodriguez

National League (NL): Barry Bonds, Terry Pendleton, Barry Bonds (2,3), Jeff Bagwell, Barry Larkin, Ken Caminiti, Larry Walker, Sammy Sosa, Chipper Jones

Cal Ripken Jr. was a two-time AL MVP, winning in 1983 and 1991 while playing shortstop with the Baltimore Orioles. Terry Pendleton won the NL MVP in 1991 with the Atlanta Braves when he won the batting title with a .319 average while hitting 22 home runs and 86 RBI.

Dennis Eckersley was the only pitcher of the decade who won the MVP. In 1992, he led the league with 51 saves, and a 1.91 ERA in 80 innings.

Frank Thomas won back-to-back AL MVPs in 1993 and 1994, hitting .332 with a .453 on base percentage and .658 slugging percentage combined during the two seasons. Mo Vaughn (AL) and Barry Larkin (NL) were the 1995 MVP winners.

Juan Gonzalez, outfielder of the Texas Rangers, won the MVP in 1996 and 1998. In 1996, he hit .314 with 47 home runs and 144 RBI. In 1998, he hit .318 with 45 home runs, 157 RBI and 50 doubles.

Ken Griffey, Jr. (AL) and Larry Walker (NL) were the MVP winners in 1997. Griffey led the AL with 56 home runs and 147 RBI. Walker led the NL with 49 home runs, a .452 on base percentage and a .720 slugging percentage.

Sammy Sosa edged out Mark McGwire for the 1998 NL MVP when Sosa finished with 66 home runs and 158 RBI. McGwire hit 70 home runs with 147 RBI, and set the single-season home run record, but Sosa won the MVP, mostly due to the Chicago Cubs reaching the postseason while McGwire's St. Louis Cardinals failed to reach the playoffs.

In 1999, Atlanta Braves' third baseman Chipper Jones won the NL MVP with a .319 average, 45 home runs, and 110 RBI. Sosa (63) and McGwire (65) both hit over 60 home runs again, but finished fifth and ninth, respectively in the 1999 NL MVP voting.
