Question 1 of 10
1. What is Augur's name?

Answer: (Starts with an M)
Question 2 of 10
2. Augur, as with its Nightlord peers, boasts a title. What is the title? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Players spend the fight against Augur essentially entirely underwater. As such, Augur has a logical main weakness. What is Augur's biggest weakness? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. With the fight being underwater, Augur's biggest resistance is also not terribly surprising, logically speaking. Which element is least effective in this fight? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Like all Expeditions, the player will fight a Night boss on the two nights leading to the fight against Augur itself. On the first night, there is a potential for this iconic Demi-God of "Elden Ring" to appear. Who is it? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Night 2 of this Expedition can send a few different menacing enemies the player's way. One such foe, or duo of foes, is a much maligned boss from "Elden Ring", fought in that game's Crumbling Farum Azula. Which of the following is a possible Night 2 boss for the Augur Expedition? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Both regular and Everdark Augur add a new twist to the Sleep status, which it can afflict players with. Ordinarily, Sleep is annoying and inconvenient, but often simply incapacitates players for a few seconds, maybe leaving them open to one simple hit, but that's it. What happens, during this fight, if the player is afflicted with Sleep? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Augur bears arguably the most dramatic change between its regular and Everdark forms out of any Nightlord in the entire game. During its Everdark phase, while it technically retains its usual weaknesses and resistance, players will realistically be unable to deal with it without one single Ash of War. This AoW is technically brand new, but obviously draws inspiration from "Dark Souls 3" and "Demon's Souls." What AoW is needed to properly fight Everdark Augur? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Defeating regular Augur for the first time will reward players with the Night of the Fathom relic. What is one trait on this relic? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Defeating Everdark Augur for the first time yields the jaw-droppingly great Dark Night of the Fathom to the player, a personal favorite of mine I run on every single character I ever have or ever will play in any setting. What is one trait this relic gives? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Augur's name?

Answer: Maris

Unlike other Nightlords, the player actually has to fight Augur's Everdark version just to learn the creature's name. If fighting the regular, the player will simply read "Augur" attached to the standard boss health bar. It's only when Everdark phase begins that it reads "Maris, Fathom of Night."
2. Augur, as with its Nightlord peers, boasts a title. What is the title?

Answer: Fathom of Night

A 'fathom' is a word used to describe the depth of an ocean. This makes the title's use for Maris fairly straightforward, as it takes the part of a spectral aquatic entity of some kind, floating about a sea of its own creation.
3. Players spend the fight against Augur essentially entirely underwater. As such, Augur has a logical main weakness. What is Augur's biggest weakness?

Answer: Lightning

In particular, any application of Lightning will immediately interrupt Augur's deadliest attack, Hypnosis. Without Lightning, one single usage of Hypnosis can wipe the entire party out in mere seconds. As such, bringing Lightning to this fight is of the utmost importance.
4. With the fight being underwater, Augur's biggest resistance is also not terribly surprising, logically speaking. Which element is least effective in this fight?

Answer: Fire

It should be pretty simple to rationalize: Fire is least effective against a giant underwater sea creature. Augur has a pretty high 50% resistance to it.
5. Like all Expeditions, the player will fight a Night boss on the two nights leading to the fight against Augur itself. On the first night, there is a potential for this iconic Demi-God of "Elden Ring" to appear. Who is it?

Answer: Godrick the Grafted

Unlike most reused bosses, there is one singular massive difference between Godrick here and in his original appearance: he does not sport a Grafted Dragon over his left hand here. Instead, when transitioning to second phase, Godrick will grow an enormous dragon-like tail and begin to swing and slam it down around him.

Unfortunately, while understandable, it really is a lot less epic and jaw-dropping than when Godrick axed his own hand off and attached the head of a dragon to the stump. At least it gives him somewhat of a fresh, new move set.

Answer: Godskin Duo

Thankfully, there are a few changes to this duo in this game that make them far less cumbersome and unenjoyable to fight. For one, the fight takes place outdoors, allowing for more fluid mobility to try and separate the Godskin Duo and get hits on them. For another, the Apostle and Noble actually did get a couple new moves to their moveset as well as quality of life changes on existing pieces of their moveset, which just makes fighting them more generally enjoyable.

By far however, the biggest change coming over from "Elden Ring" and by far the best change is that the duo no longer share the same health bar. In this game, the Noble has his own health bar and the Apostle has his own too.

Such a simple change may not seem like much, but it completely axes the worst part about the original duo fight. In the original, if the player defeated the Noble but did not deplete the entire boss health bar, the Apostle would simply revive the Noble and the fight would continue until the health bar was depleted. This had a tendency to make player decision pretty irrelevant, as no matter how smart or skilled they were, they would be in a 2v1 against two bosses clearly not well designed for such a setting.

In the original, the player would likely need to kill the Noble and Apostle around 2-3 times apiece before actually winning the fight. In this game, once they kill one or the other, they stay dead for good. In return, the Apostle and Noble have much more health, which is a fine quality of life tradeoff that rewards smart decision making, such as trying to focus out one or the other so the player can get a much more fair 1v1. The much better boss area to fight them in helps supplement this.

This is by no means an objective opinion, but I assert that the Godskin Duo is the only reused boss in this game that is an overwhelmingly and clearly superior experience, in terms of simple entertainment, to its original version.

Answer: They rapidly take damage

Funnily enough, regular Augur generally causes more Sleep damage than Everdark. With regular Augur, anyone afflicted with Sleep loses a flat 20% of their health every second. Against Everdark Augur, it works differently as it starts off at 5% of the health bar per second, but the value doubles each time the player is afflicted with Sleep: still taking three occurrences (5, 10, 20) to match the damage of regular, but outdamaging it afterward.

Answer: Storm Ruler

In "Demon's Souls" and "Dark Souls 3", the Storm Ruler is a straight up weapon. It is needed to put down the Storm King and Yhorm the Giant, respectively. Just like Everdark Augur, while killing those bosses without the Storm Ruler is possible, it is unbelievably tedious by comparison.

Everdark Augur dials the tediousness of a Storm Ruler-less fight up by a million, boasting more health than Storm King and Yhorm put together and then some, while also constantly floating far above the player's head, out of the reach of melee weapons and beyond the effective range of most non-Storm Ruler projectiles as well. It also features two separate mechanics where Storm Ruler-less players would be hard pressed to survive, as the Storm Ruler functions defensively and can exclusively interrupt Everdark Augur out of its two nastiest attacks.

Upon defeating the first phase of Everdark Augur, which does not need any particular weaponry, it will drop the Storm Ruler Ash of War to the player. It will give players about ten seconds to pick up and equip then ready it before Everdark phase begins.
9. Defeating regular Augur for the first time will reward players with the Night of the Fathom relic. What is one trait on this relic?

Answer: Flasks Also Heal Allies

Simply put, if the user uses a healing flask, it will duplicate the effect on any nearby allies. This is easily the best form of support a player could offer for their teammates, primarily if the user is a lot more skilled than their teammates and can more effectively conserve their own flasks. If playing with "randoms" and trying to carry them through particularly challenging content, equipping Night of the Fathom could yield beneficial results.
10. Defeating Everdark Augur for the first time yields the jaw-droppingly great Dark Night of the Fathom to the player, a personal favorite of mine I run on every single character I ever have or ever will play in any setting. What is one trait this relic gives?

Answer: Continuous HP Recovery

In addition, the user receives a huge boost to their Maximum HP and gains a quirky effect that gives them and their allies a strong heal over time if the user ends up low on health.

Simply put, this relic is amazing and easily fits every character in this game. No character in this game is going to scoff at gaining a lot more max HP, constantly healing off any damage they take, and even having the backup of receiving a heal on steroids if they end up low on health.

While this relic definitely is a good choice for anyone, it is absolutely godlike on The Guardian in particular. The Guardian absolutely loves having the ability to flexibly and passively heal, as he is going to typically take a ton of chip damage shielding various dangerous threats throughout the game. Plus, the added max HP clearly pays dividends trying to survive this damage.
