The Oregon shield is on one side and a beaver is on the other side.
Oregon became a state on Valentine's Day (February 14) in 1859. Crater Lake, located in Oregon, is the deepest lake in the United States and the ninth deepest lake in the world. The American beaver that brought trappers to the state also gave the state the nickname of Beaver State.

Maryland was referred to as the Old Line State by George Washington. He referred to the state as such in honor of the troops who fought during the Revolutionary War. After Maryland was accused of not having a prohibition law, a Maryland newspaper editor suggested the state should be known as the Free State. Baltimore, Maryland was the site of the first railroad station built in 1830. Maryland became the seventh state to join the union on April 28, 1788.

Congress passed the resolution for the Indiana territory in 1800. When the Indians moved or were forcibly moved from the area, Indiana retained the same name. On December 11, 1816, Indiana became the nineteenth state to enter the union.
