Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these creatures do the staff NOT dress up as?

Answer: Zombie

Peter Plunkett is about to lose his family's ancestral home. In an attempt to drum up business, he claims the castle is haunted and convinces his loyal staff to dress up and perform elaborate stunts for the paying guests!
2. According to Plunkett Senior, "No respectable ghost would live in..." Where?

Answer: California

Plunkett Senior is Peter's father who has been dead for several years. During a conversation with his still living wife (Liz Smith) he is furious when he discovers the entire castle will be moved from Ireland to America if his son cannot raise enough money.
3. What does Jack say being dead feels like?

Answer: A hangover

Jack woke up with a severe hangover and due to the events of the night before, he thought he was dead!
In his extremely drunken state, Jack witnessed the ghostly scene of Martin (Liam Neeson) murdering Mary (Daryl Hannah) over and over again. Not realising they were ghosts, he stepped in to save her. This interrupted a 200 year old ritual, creating one of the weirdest love stories ever!
4. Which of these is NOT a reason Brother Tony begins praying frantically on Miranda's bed.

Answer: It's flying towards the large open window

Brother Tony (Peter Gallagher) has a real crisis of faith while at Castle Plunkett. He finds himself very attracted to Miranda (Jennifer Tilly) who is constantly throwing herself at him.
Miranda's bed has been rigged by the staff to spin and levitate to create the illusion of ghosts and Brother Tony races to her rescue.
5. Who is "as cold as a penguin on an iceberg"?

Answer: Sharon

Jack Crawford (Steve Guttenburg) has always felt a little dominated by his wife Sharon (Beverly D'Angelo). Things, however, begin to change when he discovers their romantic getaway is a lie. Peter Plunkett mentions the name of the person who is trying to take the castle to America in front of the guests and it turns out to be Sharon's father who she is spying for! When Jack wakes up thinking he is dead, Sharon is ignoring him so Jack assumes he is a ghost and she can't hear him.

This is one of the lovingly affectionate ways he describes her. Then she slaps him him and he realises he isn't dead!
6. Who says, "Eamon, why are chunks of masonry floating about?"?

Answer: Peter Plunkett

Peter Plunkett (Peter O'Toole) is at his wits end, having tried to commit suicide, only to be branded a coward by his mother. The staff at Castle Plunkett are more like a family, they have all worked at the castle for several years and for many, it is their home.

This is why they agree to dress up as mummies, ghosts and basically do anything for Peter to help save the place. Eamon (Donal McCann) is very close to Peter and often acts as an advisor or a sympathetic ear. When bricks start flying past their noses, the ghosts of all Peter's dead relatives begin emerging from the walls and, to his despair, surround him to express their disgust at the embarrasing scam he has been trying to pull.
7. When the guests become irate and decide to leave Castle Plunkett, Malcolm steps outside and is... what?

Answer: Struck by lightning

At this point, the guests are wearing curtains, blankets and anything else they can find as they are soaking wet and their luggage has blown away. Malcolm (Martin Ferrero) is wearing a metal breastplate from a suit of armour and when he goes outside he is zapped by a bolt of lightning. He is thrown through the air and, when he lands, announces he is staying for a while longer.
8. Complete this line uttered by Peter Plunkett. "All I wanted was to be happily useless, you made me..."

Answer: miserably useless

Sinking further into depression, Peter Plunkett begins blaming his father for the predicament he is in. He says this to Plunkett senior while throwing bills around the room. He asks his father why he left him the castle and complains that his father gave no warning before he died.

He then tries to hug his father (who is, of course, a ghost) and falls right through him and lands on the floor with a thud.
9. There were many things about Martin that disgusted Mary. Which of these was NOT one of them?

Answer: He squirted

As their strange human/ghost relationship continues to blossom, Mary is talking to Jack and she points out the many things she despises about her husband. (Apart from the fact that he murders her every night!)
Although they never actually say it, from the expressions on their faces, I have taken squishing to mean a bad case of flatulence!
10. Why did Martin kill Mary in the first place?

Answer: He thought she had cheated on him

As Martin chases Mary he calls her a "wee harlot" but Mary keeps denying everything. Later, when Mary is explaining the situation to Jack, she tells him that Martin thought she had been with another man and that was why he "did" her to death. Although he instantly regretted stabbing his wife on their wedding night, Martin had started the curse that Jack would break centuries later by coming between the two ghosts.
