"Annie Hall" won in 1977. "Barry Lyndon" lost to "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" in 1975. "The English Patient" beat out "Jerry Maguire" in 1996 and "Erin Brockovich" lost to "Gladiator" in 2000. "Annie Hall" is a Woody Allen movie about two people in a relationship. Annie is aspiring to be an actress and a singer, but when her boyfriend gives her encouragement it seems to backfire on him.
