Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Taken from the soundtrack to the 2018 movie, "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again", with whom did Cher duet on "Fernando", originally a hit for Abba in 1976?

Answer: Andy Garcia

In the film, 72 year old Cher played the part of Ruby, mother to Donna, played by 70 year old Meryl Streep, which hardly seems like great casting, but it worked.
Garcia played hotel manager Fernando, an old lover of Ruby's who wishes to rekindle the relationship.
The record wasn't a great success for Cher and Garcia, just scraping into the top 100 in UK charts, but the album it is taken from hit number one in UK album charts as well as the album charts of many other countries.
2. In 2013, which bit part actress and country singer released the album, "Honky Tonk Woman", featuring the song, "I'm Just Your Yesterday", a duet with Cher?

Answer: Georgia Holt

Georgia Holt is Cher's mother, and her album was recorded in 1982, when she was 56 years old, but not released until 2013, by which time she was 87.
As an actress in the 1950s, she had minor roles on shows such as "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" (1955) and "I Love Lucy" (1956).
3. In 1981, Cher had a UK top five hit, singing "Dead Ringer For Love" with which rock star?

Answer: Meat Loaf

"Dead Ringer For Love" was the second single of four released from Meat Loaf's "Dead Ringer" (1981) album and the only one to have any real chart success.
On it's release, website Allmusic, described the song as both "one of the more inspired rock duets of the 1980's" and feeling like " a long-lost outtake from the Grease soundtrack on steroids".
4. Cher will always be associated with "I Got You Babe" (1965) and in 1993, she cemented the association when she scored a UK top 40 hit, singing the track with who?

Answer: Beavis and Butt-head

The original "I Got You Babe" was a top five hit all over the world and while this 1993 cover didn't do as well, it did crack the top ten in Netherlands and reach as high as number two in Poland.
5. Bob Seger on backing vocals and Cher performing a spoken word section as a groupie on the telephone. This describes the track "Living In Sin" from which rock band front man's 1978 solo album?

Answer: Gene Simmons

All four members of Kiss made solo albums in 1978, with Simmons having the most success as his effort reached number 22 on the Billboard 200 album chart and a place higher at 21 on the Canadian chart.
Cher's section is very brief, but the amount of talent Simmons convinced to perform on his album illustrates just how big Kiss were, with contributions from Joe Perry, Helen Reddy, Janis Ian, Donna Summer, Skunk Baxter and Rick Nielsen as well as those of Seger and Cher.
6. First performed in the 1940 Rogers and Hart musical, "My Pal Joey", who did Cher team up with in 2003 to record "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered"?

Answer: Rod Stewart

"Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" was taken from Stewart's 2003 album. "As Time Goes By: The Great American Songbook, Volume II" which also included tracks such as "I'm In The Mood For Love" (1935) and "Smile" (1936).
The duet between Cher and Rod reached number 17 in the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in USA.
7. In 1977, Cher recorded a whole album with her husband at the time. The album was a commercial and critical failure, but who was her collaborator on this flop?

Answer: Gregg Allman

Gregg was the driving force behind The Allman Brothers Band and the songwriter behind tracks such as "Whipping Post" (1969), Melissa (1972) and "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" (1972), which was about the death of his brother Duane the previous year.
The album in question, titled "Two The Hard Way" was credited to Allman and Woman and has never been released on CD as Cher owns the master tapes and refuses to allow this to happen.
Allman and Cher were married from 1975 to 1979 and produced the singer and guitarist Elijah Blue Allman, born in 1976.
8. Cher was a part of a UK number one in 1995, when she teamed up with Chrissie Hynde, Neneh Cherry and which guitar master to record "Love Can Build A Bridge"?

Answer: Eric Clapton

"Love Can Build A Bridge" was originally recorded by country artists, The Judds in 1990 and had been a hit on both the American and Canadian country charts.
The Cher, Hynde, Cherry and Clapton cover was the charity single for the annual Comic Relief appeal, and spent a week as the UK number one.
9. On the track "Just Begin Again" from the 1992 album, "Break Like The Wind", Cher guests with which band, whose original drummer died in a bizarre gardening accident that the authorities said was "best left unsolved."?

Answer: Spinal Tap

Spinal Tap are surely the greatest fictional band ever, although with three album releases and live performances can they still be classed as fictional?
They are certainly held in high regard by real musicians as stars such as Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, John Mayer, David Gilmour and Mick Fleetwood have all played with the band at some point.
10. Cher released several records in the 1960s and 70s with a man who would eventually give up the entertainment business to become a Californian congressman. Who was this?

Answer: Sonny Bono

Bono's political career began when he ran for and was elected mayor of Palm Springs, a role he held between 1988 and 1992 and continued when he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1994, where he served as congressman to California's 44th congressional district until his death in a skiing accident at South Lake Tahoe, California.
As one half of Sonny and Cher, he had nine top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in USA.
