quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which London street was the location of the rehearsal room where Zeppelin first jammed together?

Answer: Gerrard street

" The whole room just exploded ". Quote from John Paul Jones.
2. What was the first song they performed ?

Answer: 'Train Kept A' Rolling'

This was a number left over from Jimmy Page's Yardbirds days.
3. What song contains the lyric? "One of these days and it won't be long you'll look for me and baby I'll be gone".

Answer: 'Your Time Is Gonna' Come'

One of my favourites from the first album.
4. How many tracks off the Presence album were actually played live by Led Zeppelin before John Bonham died?

Answer: Two

The two tracks were - 'Achilles Last Stand' & 'Nobody's Fault But Mine'.
5. What single is considered to be Jimmy Page's first ever recording?

Answer: 'The Road To Love' by Neil Christian

This sort of question ( regarding Jimmy's early recordings )is always open to contention, due mainly to Jimmy's vague memory of that period.
Speaking to other fans and sourcing the Record Collector magazine I think 'The Road To Love' recorded Oct 62' is the likely candidate. 'Diamonds' was released Jan 63, 'It's Not Unusual' Jan 65, 'Skinnie Minnie' March 64.
I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has any other ideas.
6. Which of these tracks was never performed live in concert by Led Zeppelin.

Answer: 'Night Flight'

'Night Flight' was never played live in concert, although there is a bootleg recording of it being played during a soundcheck on the 1975 U.S. tour. Robert Plant performed the track while touring with his band 'The Priory Of Brion' in the late nineties.
7. What number did the single 'Fool In The Rain' reach in the U.S. Billboard charts in 1979.

Answer: 21

The playing on the 'In Through The Outdoor' track by all four members is superb, especially Robert Plant's phrasing.
8. At which venue did Zeppelin achieve the largest attendance record for one act on one night?

Answer: Pontiac Silverdome, Michigan, U.S.A.

An amazing 76,962 were in attendance on the night of 30th April 1977.
The tickets for the concert sold out in less than 1 day, with gross receipts for 792,361.50 dollars. These figures have of course been broken many times since by the likes of 'The Who' and the 'Rolling Stones'. A reunion tour would I'm sure restore the record back to Led Zeppelin without much problem.
9. From which song is the lyric? "A ray of sunshine melts the clouds and blows my blues away"

Answer: 'Out On The Tiles'

Not one of Zeppelin's greatest songs from the third album, but still better than most songs from their contemporaries.
10. Which of these sixties singles did Jimmy Page not play on?

Answer: '2525' by Zager & Evans

The other three singles were recorded on the Immediate record label.
Jimmy was the session guitarist at Immediate during the sixties playing on countless tracks over the period.
11. How many tickets were sold in total for Zeppelin's five nights at London's Earls court in 1975.

Answer: 85,000

These were zeppelin's first British concerts for two years, the demand for tickets was immense. The concerts are now considered to be one of Led Zeppelin's finest moments.
12. On which album track did Jimmy Page first use a banjo?

Answer: 'Gallows Pole'

Page first heard this track on a album by folk musician Fred Gerlach. Fred was apparently the first white man to use a twelve stringed guitar.
13. Who was the owner of Stargroves where most of the album Houses Of The Holy was recorded?

Answer: Mick Jagger

Mick Jagger's Stargroves country estate had a very relaxed, easy going ambience, which I think reflected in the mood of the album.
14. Which of these tracks was recorded at Stargroves but did not make it onto the Houses Of The Holy album?

Answer: All three

Yes all three were recorded at Stargroves. Lucky for us they all turned up on what I consider to be the greatest rock album ever made - Physical Graffiti.
15. On which album track did Jimmy Page first use a pedal steel guitar?

Answer: 'Your Time Is Gonna Come'

Page also played pedal on Tangerine, a track he wrote whilst a member of the Yardbirds.
16. At which London studio did Led Zeppelin first work on tracks for the fourth album, before moving to Headley Grange?

Answer: New Island

Most people believe that all the recording was done at Headley Grange, not so my friends.
17. With whom did J.P.Jones play bass for at their free concert in Hyde Park, London in 1974 ?

Answer: Roy Harper

Jonesy played along with Floyd's Dave Gilmour and drummer Steve Broughton.
18. How many Led Zeppelin song titles include words that are in brackets?

Answer: Two

The songs are - Living Loving Maid ( She's Just A Woman ), Hat's Off To ( Roy ) Harper.
19. What is the longest studio track? Clocking in at 11 minutes 4 seconds.

Answer: 'In My Time Of Dying'

This classic Led Zeppelin track was also covered by Bob Dylan on his first album. It is believed that the track was written in 1927 by Blind Willie Johnson. Led Zeppelin turned a simple blues dirge into a breath taking sonic blues rampage.
20. Which song contains the following lyric? "Tell all your friends around the world, ain't no companion like a blue eyed merle".

Answer: 'Bron Y Aur Stomp'

Great song off the third album.
