Answer: Allan Wells

Wells edged out Silvio Leonard of Cuba for the 100m gold, and also landed a silver medal in the 200m, behind Pietro Mennea of Italy. Wells also won 4 Commonwealth Games gold medals in various sprint events.
2. Which Scottish snooker player won the World Championship 7 times in the 1990s?

Answer: Stephen Hendry

Hendry won his first World Title in 1990 aged 21, and added another six in the following 9 years. He spent a 20th century record eight years at number 1 in the world rankings.

Jackie Stewart made his FI debut in 1965, driving for BRM. He won his first Grand Prix in that same year, in Italy, and finished 3rd in the driver's championship. He landed his first world title in 1969, driving for Matra International, and added another 2 in 1971 and 73 as part of the Tyrrell team. He retired following the 1973 season.

Law was the only Scot in the 20th century to be voted European Footballer of the Year,in 1964. He played club football from 1956 to 1974 for Huddersfield Town, Manchester City (2 spells), Torino and Manchester United. Kenny Dalglish equalled Law's total of 30 international goals in 1984, but it took him 96 games to do do.

Wilson, from my home town of Kirkcaldy, defeated John Lowe to win his first world title in 1982, then beat Eric Bristow to lift the 1989 title. He retired from the pro darts circuit in 1995.

Answer: Gavin Hastings

Gavin Hastings, whose younger brother Scott was also a Scottish internationalist, played at fullback for Cambridge University, Watsonians and London Scottish. He won 61 Scottish caps, scoring 667 points, and toured Australia and New Zealand with the Lions in 1989 and 1993 respectively.

10. Which Scot became the first Briton to become World Rally Champion in 1995?

Answer: Colin McRae

Colin McRae, whose father Jimmy and brother Alister were also successful rally drivers, finished 5 points ahead of Carlos Sainz in the 1995 World Rally Championship. He won a total of 25 World Rally Championship events between 1993 and 2002. Colin was tragically killed in a helicopter accident in 2007.
