Welcome to the Virtual Irish Pub - aka the VIP blog - a meeting place for any and all Fun Trivia Players from the island of Ireland.

Nice to meet you, pull up a chair and introduce yourself. Call in to the blog anytime just to say hello, meet other players from Ireland, chat about the weather or current events, start a topic for conversation, or simply to keep in touch. This is your blog!

Also welcome to post here are Fun Trivia players from all over the world who may have visited Ireland, or may want to visit Ireland, or may have family from Ireland, or may have celtic souls, or may just like Irish Pubs.

Ooh! I like the secret code that a bit of Gaeilge turns into!

The VIP private tournament is part of the Fun Trivia site and a place where Irish players can quiz together. The topics will change from day to day and week to week.

How to register and play in the VIP tournament:

1. Go to / Click on quiz link http://www.funtrivia.com/private/main.cfm?tid=101321

2. Go to / Click on "Create a Free Trivia Account (instantly!)"

(You may have to log out first. This registration process only needs to be done the first time you visit the tournament. From then on, unless you log out you should find yourself automatically logged in on each visit.)

3. Follow instructions to put in "Your email address" and "Enter a login name".

(You can use the same email address and screen-name as your FT membership.)

4. Enter a password and verify it. Don't forget the password!

(You can use the same password for your main FT membership account.)

N.B. As the tournament administrator, I cannot see any of the above details! All I have access to is the choice of topic for the quizzes.

5. Play quiz and enjoy! :)

With the week that is in it, the inaugural weekly topic in the VIP tournament is "Eurovision and Ireland"! Well, after all, we are so very good at winning it.

This selection may mean you get 10 questions on obscure Eurovision songs or 10 questions on anything Irish from geography to mythology to Irish pop songs, but probably you will get a mixed bag.

In a previous post (on the departed and lamented Ireland board) I mentioned the glorious and iconic sculpture at the bottom of the M1 as you enter Belfast.

Consisting of two white balls (one inside the other) and officially named 'Rise', its better-known local name - because of its proximity to the Falls Road - is 'the Balls on the Falls'.

However when I was driving past it today while giving a colleague a lift, I learned it has a second nickname. Due to being on the edge of West Belfast, and the aforementioned balls, my friend tells me it's also known as 'the Westicles'.

Or maybe she was just talking a lot of old bo**ocks?

I play in several tournaments too. The Wit's End one, for example, that's a good one with lots of people from all over the site. I hope you and your friend might try the VIP one as well your own one. Can't have too much of a good thing, right? ;)
