Nicoise is a French salad from Nice that combines tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, olives, anchovies, and a vinaigrette. In other variations, it may include green beans, bell peppers, boiled potatoes, and artichoke hearts.
Horiatiki or Greek salad is made with tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, onions, a slab of feta cheese, oregano, and olive oil. It is best eaten with pieces of fresh bread dipped in the juices of the vegetables and the olive oil, which are called "papara" or "soaked through."
Cobb salad is an American salad served often as a main course due to the variety of its ingredients, which are lettuce, tomato, bacon, chicken, avocado, blue cheese, and red wine vinaigrette. Interestingly, it is not usually tossed; the ingredients are placed on a platter in neat, separate rows, and it is mixed on the plate.
Tabbouleh is a Middle-Eastern salad made with parsley, bulgur, mint, onions, tomatoes, lemon, and olive oil. Sometimes cucumbers are also added. The original Lebanese tabbouleh is heavy on the green herbs and light on the grain, that is, the bulgur or couscous.
Panzanella is an Italian salad that comes from the regions of Tuscany and Umbria. It is a simple and tasty summer salad made with toasted stale bread, tomatoes, onions, and olive oil.

Dakos is a traditional Cretan dish consisting of a "paximadi" or "dakos," a dry barley rusk, with crumbled Cretan fresh myzithra cheese, chopped ripe tomatoes, olives, capers, fresh oregano, and a high-quality olive oil. Even though it is not a salad per se, it is so popular throughout Greece that it is included in every restaurant's salad list. Often, feta replaces the traditional myzithra cheese, but even so, it is still a very tasty and favorite choice as a summer meal, either on its own or accompanying some protein.
