Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Flying to Croatia in Leg 5, racers had to make their way to what famous major city?

Answer: Dubrovnik

Teams headed out from the city of Budapest and took their first flight of the race, travelling three hundred fifty miles south and proceeding to the city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. Upon arriving in this walled city on the Adriatic coast, racers needed to locate the monument to famed Croatian poet Ivan Gundulic in the heart of the Old City. There, they could tear open their Detour clues.
2. What type of fish did teams prepare in the 'Skin 'Em All' Detour task in Leg 5?

Answer: Monkfish

Finally in Dubrovnik, teams needed to embark on a Detour option, choosing either 'Fisherman Haul' or 'Skin 'Em All' as they navigated the Old Port. In 'Fisherman Haul', racers proceeded to the west harbour to collect a massive fishing net and proceed through the Old City on a half-mile route, collecting a bucket of chum along the way, to trade both for their next clue. 'Skin 'Em All', on the other hand, had racers helping local fishermen prepare two monkfish for cooking, skinning and filleting the catch of the day.

'Fisherman Haul' was completed by Joseph and Adam, Tucker and Eric, and Jas and Jag, while the remaining six teams completed 'Skin 'Em All'.
3. How many teams were U-Turned in Croatia in Leg 5?

Answer: Two

As soon as teams completed their Detour tasks they needed to rush onward to another clue box waiting at Buza Bar, just outside Dubrovnik's city walls on the cliffs overlooking the sea. Here, racers were surprised by the Double U-Turn board, forcing two teams to complete the side of the Detour they avoided earlier on. Jag and Jas used this to send back Izzy and Paige due to a perceived earlier slight while Joseph and Adam used it on Kristine and Rubina. Both affected teams had to carry the nets for the 'Fishermans Haul' task as a result.
4. The Road Block in Leg 5 had teams racing karices that they built for themselves. Who did NOT complete this task?

Answer: Steph

Moving on from the Double U-Turn, teams had to locate a clue box waiting at the city's Ploce Gate, and there, they opened a Road Block clue. Choosing a teammate who felt 'things were going downhill', they discovered that they would need to construct a karice, a low-to-the-ground racing cart, using provided materials and an example as a guide. If they could do this and then race down a course on the city streets in under thirty-six seconds, they would win a clue as their reward. Tucker, Jag, Joseph, Natalie, Kyland, Chelsie, Simone, Paige, and Kristine completed this task.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race upon checking into the Pit Stop in Leg 5?

Answer: Hannah and Simone

Completing the Road Block race allowed teams to locate the race's fifth Pit Stop atop the walls of Fort Bokar, the westernmost tower on Dubrovnik's city walls. There, they could locate Phil and the mat and determine their placement for the leg. Tucker and Eric, able to maintain their lead with clever choices and a helpful map, landed on the mat first for a second leg in a row, this time winning $2,500 USD each.

Although two teams took on the U-Turn in this leg, it was Hannah and Simone who arrived in ninth overall, meaning they were eliminated from the competition.
6. Driving themselves through rural Croatia in Leg 6, teams were first told to find a statue of which of the following in Trsteno?

Answer: Neptune

Starting Leg 6 atop Fort Bokar, racers had to self-drive themselves (in manual vehicles) northwest along the Adriatic coastline out of Dubrovnik and out to the town of Trsteno to find the local arboretum, a well-maintained public ground standing for for hundreds of years. If they could locate the fountain featuring a statue of the Roman God, Neptune, they would also find a stone container holding their next clue inside.
7. The 'Bag It Up' Detour task, encountered by teams in Ston, Croatia in Leg 6, and racers packing which of these local commodities?

Answer: Salt

In Trsteno, racers located their Detour clues and were instructed to help locals in the city of Ston as they went about working in key industries. Teams who chose 'Bag It Up' had to travel to Saltworks Ston. After filling a wheelbarrow with raw salt from the warehouses there, they had to work together to fill and seal ten sacks, weighing them to be between 20 and 21 pounds before delivering them to the facility's shipping centre to get their next clue.

Tucker and Eric, Jas and Jag, Joseph and Adam, Izzy and Paige, and Jack and Chelsie took this route.
8. Which team did NOT complete the 'Pull It Up' Detour task in Leg 6?

Answer: Joseph and Adam

If teams didn't want to deal with dry salt, they could instead head into the wet sea for their Detour. Heading to the Bay of Mali Ston, racers completing 'Pull It Up' needed to row into the bay searching for marked buoys, each holding a string of oysters. If they could pull three of these up from the water, they could deliver their catch of the day back to a waiting business owner (and head chef) at the Bota Sare Restaurant on shore to get their next clue.

Kyland and Taylor, Natalie and Stephanie, and Kristine and Rubina completed this task.
9. For their Road Block in Ston, Croatia (in Leg 6), racers had to do which of the following?

Answer: Answer trivia questions

Racers left the Detour, but remained in Ston, looking for a clue box waiting alongside the hills at Park Komarda to find their waiting Road Block task. Here, one member of each team had to find their way around the city of Ston using a relief map, finding their way around the nearby town using three shields as indicated.

At each location, the participants would find numerous facts about Croatia, all of which they would need to memorize because, returning to the park, they would need to answer three questions. Getting any of them wrong meant having to go back out to get the right answers, but what racers would discover was that the questions would change with each attempt. Eric, Taylor, Jas, Stephanie, Adam, Jack, Izzy, and Rubina completed this task.
10. Which team was eliminated in Croatia at the end of Leg 6?

Answer: Kristine and Rubina

If teams could pass through their Croatian quizzes, they could head to the beach to locate Phil and their sixth Pit Stop, checking in at the halfway point of the race in the picturesque Prapratno Cove. Tucker and Eric landed on the mat in first place once again, winning their third leg in a row and letting their momentum carry them to a trip prize package to Cairo, Egypt courtesy of Expedia. Kristine and Rubina were unable to overcome the detriment that they built up during Leg 5 and never reunited with the rest of the pack in Leg 6.

As such, they were eliminated at this Pit Stop.
