Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team was not U-Turned in Athens in Leg 9?

Answer: Joseph and Adam

In the middle of the night, racers were sent out from Bucharest, Romania at the start of Leg 9 and flown, as a group, to Athens, Greece, uniting at Pnyka Hill next to the National Observatory of Athens with Phil setting the tone. Here, racers were met by a Live Double U-Turn Vote that resulted in some unique, if not unexpected consequences. Upon the first vote, with each team allowed to vote for two other teams, Tucker and Eric were locked in to need to completed both sides of the Detour. The catch is that both Jas and Jag and Kyland and Taylor were tied for second, and on revote, they remained tied. As a result, all three teams were U-Turned as they opened their next clues.

As a result of placing last in the previous leg, Joseph and Adam received a vote right off the top, but since no other teams voted for them, it was moot.
2. Racers completing the 'Music in the Air' Detour task in Athens had to perform for money, using which of these methods to do so?

Answer: Use a crank-operated instrument

Racers left their U-Turn Vote at Pnyka Hill with instructions to find their next clue, on foot, in the hands of a man with a red and yellow flag at the Acropolis, and there, the teams had to dive into their Detours.

There, some racers chose 'Music in the Air' for which they had to proceed to Klafthmonos Square. Once there, racers had to locate a waiting laterna, a carryable, crank-operated automatic piano, and carry it to Monastiraki Square to perform for money. If racers could accumulate ten Euros, they could trade the cash for their next clue.
3. After completing the Detour, racers had to roll a boulder up the Hill of Muses, mimicking a task completed by which Ancient Greek figure?

Answer: Sisyphus

Racers who chose to complete the 'Olives Everywhere' Detour task had to find Ariana Olives near Varvakios Central Municipal Market and partake in a tough taste test. For this challenge, racers had to sample ten different types of olives and then subsequently match them, by name, to the shopkeeper to get their clue.

Completing this task, racers then had to head, by taxi, to the Hill of Muses and, like Sisyphus before them, roll a massive boulder up the hill to receive their next clue.
4. Racers had to recite the Greek alphabet for their Road Block in Leg 9, but did they need to know the letters in order?

Answer: No

After their Sisyphean task, racers were told to proceed on foot to the Dora Stratou Theatre in the hills under the Parthenon. There, racers had one last task to overcome-- the Road Block-- for which one member of each team needed to 'be the alpha'. The task here was simple: the selected racer needed to learn the twenty-four letters of the Greek alphabet, all in presented in lower-case, and recite them in a specific, non-sequential order, to get their final clue.

Jag, Joseph, Tucker, Paige, Chelsie, and Taylor completed this one.
5. Which team placed sixth overall, finding themselves eliminated at the end of Leg 9 in Athens, Greece?

Answer: Tucker and Eric

Leaving the Road Block, teams had to take their taxis to the ninth Pit Stop waiting miles deeper into Athens at Kotzia Square. Despite the U-Turn standing in their way, Jas and Jag managed to stay ahead of the other teams for the majority of the leg and they ended up taking the first place position, claiming a trip for two to Siem Reap, Cambodia from Expedia.

Despite dominating numerous legs of the race and, for the most part, overcoming the U-Turn this leg, Tucker and Eric fell behind during the Greek alphabet Road Block and, as such, checked into the Pit Stop in last place. The brothers were eliminated in sixth overall as a result.
6. Heading to Italy in Leg 10, racers flew into what Lombardy Region city?

Answer: Milan

Five teams departed for their tenth leg of the race late in the evening and had to make their way from Kotzia Square, their previous Pit Stop, to the nearby travel agency of Dimidis Tours. Once they arrived, they could work with a travel agent to book the soonest flight one thousand miles northwest, over the Adriatic Sea, to the city of Milan, Italy. Arriving there in the morning, racers had to get out of the airport, find their clues waiting with their vehicles for the leg, and drive to Milan Rotonda della Besana in the heart of the city to find their next clue.
7. The first Road Block task teams found in Italy (in Leg 10) had racers creating dresses out of which unconventional materials?

Answer: Flowers

Finally getting into Milan, racers reached Rotonda della Besana to find a Road Block task, and this one asked for one team member who wanted to 'pin their hopes on the Road Block'. The challenge waiting for Jas, Adam, Izzy, Jack, and Kyland involved creating some wearable art.

Inside the building's courtyard, racers found mannequins and bouquets of freshly-picked flowers, and with these, they had to pin the flowers to the dress form to replicate a finished example. Once the outfit was runway-ready, they would get their next clue.
8. In the town of Vigevano, racers completing the second Road Block (in Leg 10) partook in events pertaining to which festival?

Answer: Palio

Leaving the city of Milan proper, racers needed to drive themselves from their first Road Block and then westward out of the metropolitan area to the small city of Vigevano to find a second Road Block waiting at the riding stables of Visconti-Sforza Castle.

Here, one member of each team had to partake in Italian games, joining into the events of the local Palio festival. This started with the selected racers needing to build a puzzle replica of the nearby Torre del Bramante. When this was done, they could hop aboard fake horse and, with two locals pushing them along a route, use a jousting pole to collect suspended rings. They could trade four rings (from one lap) to get their next clue.

Jag, Paige, Adam, Taylor, and Chelsie completed this task.
9. Emulating Da Vinci, racers needed to construct which of these during Leg 10?

Answer: A bridge

Completion of the second Road Block kept teams in Vigevano for at least one more task. Locating and arriving at Mulino di Mora Bassa, racers cracked open a clue that had them working in the footsteps of Leonardo da Vinci, who spent time in Vigevano. For this, racers had to use provided pieces of wood to create one of Da Vinci's inventions-- a self-supporting bridge. If they could properly construct the seemingly-simple structure to the point that one could walk across it to test its strength, they could get their last clue.
10. Which team was eliminated in Italy at the end of Leg 10?

Answer: Jack and Chelsie

With a commanding lead this tenth leg, Jas and Jag opened their final clue with the instruction to drive to the town of Corbetta and, there, they could locate their tenth Pit Stop at the beautiful Villa Borri Manzoli. For winning their fifth leg of the race (and their third in a row), the brothers banked $7,500 USD (each), holding onto the momentum with the cash prize in their pocket.

Although they flew into Milan an hour later than the other teams, Kyland and Taylor were able to regain a spot, passing a navigationally-challenged Jack and Chelsie over the course of the day. It led to the father-daughter pair landing on the mat in last and being sent home in fifth place.
