Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It was on the waterfront in the Dutch town of Volendam that teams encountered which of these long-unused race mechanics near the start of Leg 1?

Answer: Hazard

Thirteen teams, all featuring cast members from past "Big Brother" seasons, started the race in the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands, and before they even hit the starting line they participated in a task where they had to play a round of ice bowling for a pair of Express Passes.

The catch was that the last team to complete the task, Jack and Enzo, would also face a Hazard for taking as long as they did. They encountered this additional task on the boardwalk in the town of Volendam whereupon they had to eat one soused herring each, then bike around the area in a bike shaped like a giant, Dutch clog en route to their next task.

They were eliminated due in part to these hurdles.
2. Racing to the Czech Republic in Leg 2, teams completed their first Detour while navigating the streets on the east side of what river, cutting through its capital of Prague?

Answer: Vltava

Instead of flying to the second country they encountered on the race, the twelve teams still in Leg 2 were tasked with taking a series of risky train rides from Amsterdam to Prague, arriving there for a leg in and around the Czech capital that had them jumping back and forth over the Vltava River in and around their first Detour task.

Here, in spite of Tucker and Eric locating the Pit Stop before completing their Detour, the teams were spread apart far enough by their trains that they were able to go back, finish the extra task, and still check in in fourth place.
3. Which team never made it to the Pit Stop at the Kacina Château at the end of Leg 3, falling too far behind on the race route?

Answer: Megan and Matt

Megan and Matt, trailing for the whole race, managed to stave off elimination in Legs 1 and 2 by the narrowest of margins, but a series of self-drive stretches across the Czech Republic ultimately sealed their fates, getting them lost en route to Kutná Hora and ensuring that they couldn't reach the second Road Block of the leg. Phil left the Pit Stop to meet them at the plowing task in Nové Dvory and eliminate them without hitting the mat.

In the meantime, all teams encountered the Driver's Seat in this leg before completing two Road Blocks.
4. Taking a dip in the Széchenyi Thermal Bath in Budapest, racers found clues within which of these unexpected items?

Answer: Chess pieces

The race continued southward in Leg 4, placing teams into the Hungarian capital for a series of challenges that started with locating the Széchenyi Thermal Bath. Here, teams needed to take a dip in the pools there searching for a clue which, as they would come to determine, was in the form of a chess piece that could be unscrewed to reveal the name of their next destination inside. Tucker and Eric would win the Fast Forward here, starting a string of four first place wins in a row, while all other teams embarked on a series of culturally-inspired tasks in the city.
5. The Old City and Old Part of which city, pictured here and featured in Leg 5, hosted teams for a Detour, Road Block, and Double U-Turn?

Answer: Dubrovnik

Both Legs 5 and 6 took teams through different locales in Croatia, and the first of those two legs had them criss-crossing the fortress that is the Old Town of Dubrovnik. Racers had to navigate their way through the narrow streets making deliveries, hunting for their Double U-Turn, and building racing carts before checking in at Fort Bokar.

The sixth leg took teams out of the city and up the coastline towards the town of Ston. Both of these legs were won by Tucker and Eric while sister teams Hannah and Simone and Kristine and Rubina were eliminated.
6. By the time teams reached the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania (in the race's eighth leg), how many Express Passes were still in play?

Answer: One

After a leg sending teams around rural Romania, Leg 8 took place almost entirely in the capital city of Bucharest and it acted as the final opportunity for the two teams with Express Passes to make use of their advantages. While Jag and Jas used theirs early to bypass the Easter egg-hunting Road Block in a city park, Kyland and Taylor used theirs as far into the leg as they could, holding onto it past the Palace of the Parliament clue box and skipping the Detour. Jas and Jag would overtake Tucker and Eric in doing this, starting their second streak of wins, while Kyland and Taylor would arrive in third.

This was the only non-elimination leg of the season.
7. Which landmark did teams not encounter when they visited Athens, Greece in Leg 9?

Answer: The Panathenaic Stadium

Although "The Amazing Race" has visited Athens' Panathenaic Stadium in the past (in Season 28), racers this time hit all of the other listed landmarks, spending most of Leg 9 on foot with the occasional taxi ride. At the Pynx, racers had a Double U-Turn vote that actually resulted in three teams being U-Turned, and despite a strong showing by most teams at the subsequent Detour, it was the Road Block that stumped the front-runners, sending strong team Tucker and Eric to the back of the pack and seeing their elimination.
8. Racers arrived in Northern Italy in Leg 10, completing a task to construct the depicted Torre del Bramante in what city?

Answer: Vigevano

Although teams started this tenth leg of the race in the city of Milan in Northern Italy, a series of self-drive segments marked a route southwest out of the city and into the Lombardy Region. In Vigevano, teams encountered the second of two Road Blocks in this leg of the race before building a bridge to Leonardo da Vinci's unique specifications.

While Kyland and Taylor landed in Italy an hour after all of the other teams (as a consequence of their placing last in the previous leg), they were able to overtake Jack and Chelsie in the final task of the day, avoiding getting sent home before the penultimate leg.
9. Teams raced around Paris throughout their penultimate leg of the race. Which of these locations did they encounter last?

Answer: Place du Trocadéro

The final four teams had a long day in Paris for their penultimate leg, and it took them not only to the Moulin Rouge (to perform the can-can), but to the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral and the first school of the blind (to write a poem in Braille). The leg capped off with a complicated city Scramble in which the teams had to locate replicas of the Statue of Liberty in three different, distant parts of the city, but if they could find all three and collect puzzle pieces given to them, they could identify the site of their final Pit Stop at Place du Trocadéro, overlooking the Eiffel Tower, for a chance to make it to the final leg in New York City.
10. How many racers had the opportunity to rappel down the side of the Empire State Building in the race's final leg?

Answer: Six

As part of their first task in the Big Apple, teams headed to the Empire State Building to kick off their series of final challenges, and it was there that they discovered both members of each team would be rappelling down the side of the iconic landmark from the 103rd storey to the 90th. Once teams had this harrowing task down, they could proceed on a handful of deliveries in the Manhattan streets and a final memory task in Brooklyn before making their way to the finish line at Yankee Stadium where, after twelve legs, Jas and Jag won the competition over Kyland and Taylor (in second) and Joseph and Adam (in third).
