Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. DK will awaken in a jail cell at the start of the Groove Layer. How does he escape?

Answer: Through the floor

At the end of the Radiance Layer, DK and Pauline were split up with the young girl being eaten by the Harmoneel (under control of VoidCo). With this, DK plummeted deeper into the planet and fell unconscious. He would awaken in a jail cell guarded by Iron Jailer Fractones, held under suspicion of wrecking the disco-- something he wouldn't have been able to do, having never been to the Groove Layer before. Fortunately, the floor in the jail cell is old and will give way if beaten on a few times.
2. Who, of these, is also locked away in the Jail Hall?

Answer: Poppy Kong

Once DK is able to perform his jailbreak, he'll be able to manuever around the tunnels beneath the Jail Hall and reemerge on the other side of the bars, much to the guards' general apathy (DK didn't look like the type in the first place). What he'll find when he looks around is that Poppy Kong, having been caught in the crossfire in the previous Layer, has also been jailed.

He'll need to blast her out of her cell as well, and after a bit of investigating, it'll become apparent that gold will bust open the door.
3. The Fractones of the Groove Layer will claim that the sound in their Disco Hall turned what colour?

Answer: Purple

After DK frees Poppy Kong he'll be able to step foot outside of the Jail Hall and emerge into the Disco Hall, the central chamber of the Groove Layer, to find obstinate silence. As he'll learn, this used to be a happening place, and the Great Harmoneel used to come there to unwind with the Fractones.

However, since 'the sound turned purple', that's no longer the case. The truth is that Void King has blocked the music's elements right at their sources, covering them with Terravoiders down each of the Layer's wings.
4. The first source track DK will encounter, on the far left wing of the Groove Layer, will bring back which of these elements?

Answer: The Beat

DK will need to visit all three wings of the Disco Hall to bring music back to the Groove Layer, and that will likely start with a trip down the left hallway to kick-start the beat. Following the source track here, it should be a relatively straight shot to the proper chamber where DK simply needs to destroy a Terravoider to help out.

The problem is that restoring the beat will cause a cave-in, blocking the return path. To get back to the Disco Hall, he'll have to dig his way out.
5. The second source to restore is the Bass Source. Here, DK encounters Swap Harps, switching the terrain between Gold and which of these other substances?

Answer: Rubber

The far right source that DK will need to pursue (heading there from the Disco Hall) will bring him to the spot where he can restore the bass to the music in the Groove Layer, and unlike the earlier beat area, the Bass Source will force him to make use of new mechanics in the game in the form of Swap Harps.

These devices flip nearby terrain from one type to another to allow for passage (provided you punch through it). On this later, it turns gold into un-punchable rubber and vice versa, a necessary flip to get back through the caved-in return passage.
6. Which of these well-camouflaged foes makes its first appearance in the Groove Layer?

Answer: Wallopoid

Taking on the visage of Void King, these massive foes blend into their surroundings by revealing themselves as false walls when DK comes near, falling over to crush him if he doesn't get out of the way. The way to beat these is by destroying them with something strong, so you'll still need to make the effort to maneuver around.

These will be found in the third hallway leading to the Melody Source, and they'll continue to recur in later Battle Challenges past the Groove Layer.
7. A museum dedicated to which of these can be found in the Groove Layer?

Answer: Fossils

Once DK is able to spare some time he can gain access to a particularly interesting facility in the Groove Layer that almost seems to be ill-placed. At the Fossil Museum, you can peruse the exhibits-- some much larger than others-- depicting all of the Fossils collected throughout the game. Fossils here will only appear if you spend them at Style Shops in previous Layers, so while you won't necessarily see a completed museum on your first visit to the Groove Layer, you'll get pretty close.
8. The only Fossil to appear in the Groove Layer is an alt. color version of what previous Fossil?

Answer: Beaver

As with other smaller-sized Layers, especially ones which don't offer new Bananzas, the Groove Layer only features one less-significant Fossil type, and that's the alt. color Beaver, a variation on the Fossil previously seen as the most common offering in the Forest Layer.

There are thirty of these in total in the Groove Layer, and the only items to buy at the Styletone are various colours that you can use to dye DK's fur.
9. When DK enters the Harmoneel's belly, he'll find Pauline inside, but which if these facts is true about the encounter?

Answer: She'll have reverted to her Odd Rock form

Once all three sources have been restored, DK can return to the Disco Hall and, with the help of Poppy Kong, summon the Harmoneel with his drumbeat. Saving the Harmoneel from the Mind-Bender Mask, first and foremost, is the easy part, since the Harmoneel's predilection towards music will break the spell quickly. DK will still need to jump inside, and save Pauline from the dimension within.

Poppy Kong will leave, claiming her intent to go freelance, but DK and Pauline will descend into the Sinkhole immediately, bound for the Feast Layer.
10. Once the game's main story is completed, DK can return to the Groove Layer to reunite a band of Fractones for a performance. By what name are these NPCs referred to?

Answer: The Groovetones

If DK returns to the Groove Layer after finishing the game, the giant speaker that once stood in the center of the Disco Hall will be gone on account of the Harmoneel bursting through. What this means is that one of the Fractones will be present to inform you how to bring the Layer back to its normal self.

In addition to finding three Groovetones scattered throughout the area (to make a total of four), DK will need to pay Grumpy Kong to rebuild the speaker. The Groovetones, somewhat apropos, look like disco balls and are only found in this Layer.
