Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As a big, hulking sentient tree monster, Mourn comes to this game aiming to exact vengeance on behalf of the forest. What role does Omeda Studios have him doing this in?

Answer: Support

Mourn's kit and stats are brilliant for the Support role, as he brings everything you could possibly want to the table in this regard. He is very tanky, can heal allies and himself, offers multiple forms of crowd control and is very big, so he can protect the Carry by body-blocking for them.

Interestingly, Omeda Studios has actually gone public expressing that they initially desired Mourn to see use out of the Jungle. Many patch decisions have been made towards Mourn with the interest of making him useful in this regard. As such, Mourn is actually quite solid as a Jungler, though he is not explicitly recommended for the role when looking in the game.

Similarly, Mourn can competently play in the Offlane. He is definitely tanky enough, has good sustain and can deal passable enough damage if built to do so.

Mourn's biggest weakness used outside of Support is the fact that, as a Support character, his damage output starts off very weak. Opponents can pressure Mourn effectively early and make it difficult for him to catch up, thus necessitating far more skillful play to take Mourn out of Support than to use him here.

As has been said many times in this quiz series, any player skillful enough can potentially make any character work in any role, at least for one match. However, playing characters outside of Omeda-recommended roles does generally mean you are expected to be at a disadvantage.
2. As a talking, walking tree, Mourn's stat build is about what you'd expect. What is his highest stat?

Answer: Durability

Mourn is up there with the likes of Steel, Rampage, Riktor and more as one of the tankier characters in this game. What Mourn has that many of them don't, however, is the ability to easily heal himself with the press of a button. As such, Mourn is generally considered to have among the best longevity out of any character in the game. A Durability of 8 reflects this.

Unlike many of these tanks though, Mourn's 6 in Ability Power should not be overlooked. While not especially powerful, this is actually quite menacing for a Support character. Mourn can't deal a ton of damage unless he builds to do so, but it adds an extra dimension to his kit.
3. Mourn's so-called "Passive" is Extract. It impacts Mourn's Basic Attacks; every ten seconds, Mourn can wield the tentacle coming out of his left arm. When hitting an enemy, what will this tentacle do?

Answer: Heal Mourn

Mourn will heal for a fairly decent amount that gains with his level. Additionally, this tentacle deals damage which scales off of Mourn's Magical Power- players aiming to use Mourn as a healer or to do a bit more damage with will steadily see Extract deal more and more damage as the game carries on. Meanwhile, even though tank items do not give Magical Power, if built this way, Mourn can appreciate the healing Extract gives even more.
4. Mourn's Alternate Ability is Abduct; alas, a Riplash it is not, but Mourn can use this pretty similarly to Riktor's Riplash to pull enemies towards him. What is one key difference between Riplash and Abduct?

Answer: Abduct does not stun

Abduct is basically a drastically inferior Riplash in basically every single way. In this context, Riplash straight up Stuns enemies while Abduct merely Slows them. This makes sense though, as Riktor basically lives and dies as a Support via usage of Riplash, while Mourn's Abduct is hardly his trademark feature in the same way.

While Abduct can be landed at basically any time, it can be comboed nicely out of Beguile. Beguile will basically serves foes on a silver platter to Mourn, making them easy to grab with Abduct. Riktor only wishes he can use something to make landing Riplash easier.
5. Mourn's Primary Ability is Contagion, a silent but deadly candidate for one of the best Abilities in the entire game. This Ability is multi-faceted. What is one thing it can do?

Answer: Heal allies

Contagion has a different effect whether it is being used on an ally or an enemy. On allies, it will gradually heal them for a bit over time. For enemies, the exact same heal values allies get is applied to enemies as a damage over time instead.

Similarly, Allies also briefly gain a little bit of armor, while enemies similarly experience minor armor shred.

Such a mundane Ability may not seem like much, but it's the sheer versatility it brings to the table. Being able to help allies and hurt enemies on a dime makes it extremely spammable and safe to use virtually whenever. It also hits Objectives and jungle minions, making it useful for Mourn out of the Jungle as well.
6. Beguile is Mourn's Secondary Ability. Mourn begins the Ability with a cast animation he can walk in the middle of, before he casts a wide AoE inflicting any enemies inside with a status. What status?

Answer: Mesmerize

This comboes beautifully into Abduct, as Mesmerized targets are briefly unable to dodge and will be sitting ducks for an Abduct follow up.

This is a chargeable Ability, so the player has to press it once to start the cast, then again to do the cast. If charged for as long as possible, the AoE will be a pretty large circle around Mourn.
7. Mourn's Ultimate Ability, my personal favorite, is Eclipse. This is a completely new take for an Ultimate, as it doesn't directly target any one player or even any team, instead targeting the map, Sanctuary or Legacy depending on the game mode. When Eclipse is cast, what happens to the map?

Answer: It goes dark

The entire map will go dark for a few seconds. Allies will see what looks to be some kind of a storm going on around them, a simple visual effect that does not impact them. Enemies, meanwhile, will be rendered completely unable to see beyond the immediate area their character is in, while allies can see enemies perfectly.

Clearly, this is best reserved for setting up ambush plays. Mourn, with or without an ally or allies, can hide in wait for an enemy. Then, Mourn uses Eclipse and the enemy gets jumped on in ambush hard.
8. Like all Heroes, Mourn may choose from one of three Hero Augments. His first choice is Nightmare Extractor, predictably impacting Extract. This allows Mourn to reduce Extract's cooldown, but how?

Answer: Casting an Ability

This Augment mainly sees use when Mourn is used as an Offlaner. Here, Mourn can benefit further from Extract's self heal without needing to use mana on Contagioning himself. This helps in a solo lane like the Offlane, especially in the early game where mana management is key.
9. Contagioned Eclipse is Mourn's second Augment. As the name suggests, this meshes Contagion with Eclipse. When casting Eclipse, how does Contagion now get involved?

Answer: Contagion is applied to all heroes

With this Augment, Mourn casting Eclipse will now simultaneously apply Contagion to all allies and enemies, with the accompanying helpful/harmful effects Contagion normally gives.

This Augment is so unbelievably obviously the Augment of choice for Mourn Support, that the other two may as well not even exist. This Augment lets Mourn essentially have a one-time global heal he can give his entire team at a moment's notice.

Hilariously enough, because it also gives enemies Contagion, Mourn can occasionally 'cheese' a kill using this Augment. Enemies left with a sliver of health left can be finished off by a Mourn casually using Eclipse from the other end of the map.
10. Dreadful Roots is Mourn's final Augment. This one was clearly made out to be a novelty, letting Mourn turn into "SpiderMourn" as the community affectionately calls it. Mourn can use an Ability with this Augment to jump towards Terrain, including walls. What Ability?

Answer: Abduct

Mourn was Akeron before Akeron became a thing, as a goofy enough player could use this to swing from wall to wall.

Obviously, this is not a sensible choice for if the player wants an effective Augment. But it sure can give a good laugh if the player actually manages to use it to kill someone with.
