Estimated time: 3 mins.
Though it may seem like this isn't the right spot for a location in the Freezer Layer, descending into the deeper Sublayers of this region will reveal that beneath the hard, icy exterior of this zone is a superheated, chocolava-filled depth. After Donkey Kong defeats Poppy Kong within the Cooling Tower (after acquiring the Zebra Bananza), he'll descend into Sublayer 502 and cross a massive lava lake to the Compressor, the final point at which he can drop down into Sublayer 503 and a fight against Inflammonite.
2. Sublayer 1300
Answer: Jail Hall
When DK lands in Sublayer 1300 he'll awaken in a cell in the Groove Layer's Jail Hall and he'll be forced to break himself out to save Pauline who, by this point, will have been eaten alive by the Harmoneel. What will follow, with some unexpected assistance from Poppy Kong, is a mission to bring the Groove Layer back to its active self for the sake of the Fractones waiting to party there and to save Pauline from being...well...digested.
3. Sublayer 800
Answer: Blast-Off Boardwalk
The only Sublayer to be visited in the Resort Layer is Sublayer 800, so all of the contents of this beach region can be found there. In addition to a Tropical Retreat and Juicy Beach, DK will ascend through a series of floating islands to some high-up vantage points en route to the top of the giant watermelon block, and those will bring him to checkpoints on Skydive Isle and Blast-Off Boardwalk.
At the end of the Layer, next to the sinkhole, he'll also create Big Watermelon Memorial. This last spot will only appear when you destroy the landmark.
4. Sublayer 1203
Answer: Window Viper
There are a number of snake-themed checkpoints in Radiance Layer (Glowboa Cave, Constrictor Corridor, Hiss Hiss Oasis, Serpent Sands, etc.) and it's with good reason since the Snake Elder and his people live throughout the caves and dunes that DK encounters on his visit there. Window Viper is one of the later areas to be found.
A series of narrow corridors lined with glass windows, DK needs to visit it to get to the Shade Clouds and descend into the Crystal-Cobra Den to fight Grumpy Kong and close out the trip here.
5. Sublayer 100
Answer: Ape Cape
Encountered as soon as Donkey Kong and the Odd Rock descend into their first sinkhole in Ingot Isle, Sublayer 100 acts as the first stop in the journey. The first part of Lagoon Layer, Ape Cape is an introductory area that gives way to a large, open-air layer of watery grottos, deep caves, Salvager Monkeys, and eventually, the game's first Elder. Sublayer 100 is the highest level of this Layer and it also contains the Reservoir Bank and Hills.
A Sublayer lower, and you'll hit Salvager's Landing.
6. Sublayer 903
Answer: Sinkhole
To be fair, nearly all major Layers have a Sinkhole, and the regions note them as such when DK arrives at one or unveils one (usually by defeating the final boss of a Layer). In Tempest Layer, one is found as low as Sublayer 903 once the Sinister Blusterwing is saved from its VoidCo fate atop Stormy Station (perched at the furthest reach of Sublayer 902). From a Sinkhole, DK and Pauline can descend into their next Layers and collect the bunch of Banandium Gems that comes from beating the biggest foes (they'll always drop into the hole).
7. Sublayer 601
Answer: Eggshell Hotel Annex
Although the Eggshell Hotel proper is one of the focal points of Sublayer 600, standing in the middle of the poison waters next to Bellhop Burb, the Eggshell Hotel Annex is found one Sublayer down, partway through the trail that pushes its way through the apparently-overwhelmed Mossplume Marsh.
Here, DK needs to destroy three poison plants filling the marsh with more poison than it can handle. Killing these will drop the water level and open a route through Rubbery Roost that will get him access to the annex.
8. Sublayer 1606
Answer: Fractone Cradle
The final Layer and the home of the Banandium Root is the Planet Core, and DK and Pauline will finally get there once they accidentally let loose King K. Rool and set themselves up with a new final foe for the adventure. The largest of the Layers, it contains ten Sublayers, two of which are Fractone settlements containing a number of shopkeepers and amenities, the first being Fractone Fort on Sublayer 1601 and the second being the Fractone Cradle, which also contains the largest Fossil of the region.
9. Sublayer 1400
Answer: Kingly Swings
There are a lot of food-themed locales in the Feast Layer, and Kingly Swings might be one of the only spots that doesn't lean into the obvious aesthetic. A series of swinging platforms best-navigated by the Ostrich Bananza, it's one of the five spots at which DK and Pauline will be able to locate a Burger Switch, necessary for making a giant Banana Burger and the path down to the next Sublayer below.
Some of the more food-centric names of the Layer include Cat-Scratch Kitchen, Fried Pride Plaza, Grater-Go-Round, and Ferocious Fryhouse.
10. Sublayer 301
Answer: Banandium Refinery Offices
Most of Canyon Layer takes place on Sublayer 300, where Donkey Kong will have the run of the mountainous cliffs and the mine cart tracks that pass between them, but once Grumpy Kong is defeated within Big-Stretch Peak, you'll get access to a sinkhole taking you down into the Banandium Refinery on Sublayer 301.
Here, DK needs to ride around dodging the Sublayer's foes and mechanical devices before coming across the Mad Mixer. Defeating this will take you even deeper.
