1. Which state-related nickname did both Ernest Jennings Ford and Thomas Lanier Williams III adopt?

Answer: Tennessee

Tennessee Ernie Ford (1919-1991) was a radio disk jockey, a recording artist and television host. He was born in Bristol, Tennessee, and adopted the nickname while hosting a country-Western music radio programme. His most successful recording was of "Sixteen Tons". Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) was an American playwright born in Columbus, Mississippi.

He adopted "Tennessee" as his nom de plume in 1939 for unknown reasons ('tho many have been suggested). He is well-known for "The Glass Menagerie" (1944), "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1947), "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (1955), and "Sweet Bird of Youth" (1959).

He bequeathed his literary rights to the University of the South, an Episcopal college in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Paul Newman won an Oscar for "The Color of Money" (1986), and won an Emmy in 2005 for "Empire Falls". As a race car driver he won four national championships while participating in "Sports Car Club of America" contests. He acted with Robert Redford in "The Sting" (1973), as well as "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (1969).

He was married to Joanne Woodward in 1958 and became famous for his answer to the question of why he never fooled around when he said, "Why would I settle for hamburger when I have steak at home?"

3. What star of "The Dirty Dozen" and "Cat Ballou" had a hit with "Wand'rin' Star" in 1970?

Answer: Lee Marvin

Lee Marvin starred as Ben Rumson in Learner and Lowe's musical "Paint Your Wagon". "Wand?rin' Star" is one of the songs from the musical.

Marvin played Major John Reisman in "The Dirty Dozen" (1967), an officer charged with managing a group of ne'er-do-wells in a suicide raid on a meeting of high-ranking German officials, codenamed "Project Amnesty". The mission was successful.

The 1965 movie, "Cat Ballou", told the story of Catherine (Cat) Ballou, whose father was killed by Tim Strawn (played by Marvin). She hired Kid Shelleen (also played by Marvin) to extract vengeance, but found that she needed to take the law into her own hands when she discovered he was perpetually drunk. They joined forces and Shelleen killed Strawn (whom Shelleen revealed was his brother) and the group (after a series of adventures) rode away presumably to live happily ever after.

Marvin was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in World War II.

These three actors and one singer were all were born in Canada. Anne is a country music icon in Canada and Shatner was Captain James T. Kirk on "Star Trek". Aykroyd and Candy both had many movie credits; Candy's included "Planes Trains and Automobiles" with Steve Martin, and Aykroyd's included the "Blues Brothers" as well as "Ghostbusters 1 and 2".

William Wallace Smith (1830-1913) and his brother, Andrew Smith (1836-1895) were the makers of cough drops and lozenges, and were recognized by their tradmarked packaging. William and Andrew (both bearded) were shown in profile, facing each other with 'Trade' and 'Mark" under each picture.

The company, headed by William's son Arthur (after Wiliam's death) developed menthol cough drops in 1922, and wild cherry in 1948. The other three sets of brothers have been highly regarded fixtures in the entertainment industry.

Also, she and her husband, Gary Collins, were the co-hosts of the 1989 Miss America pageant.
