Answer: guitar

Gerard only actually managed to learn the basics of the guitar for the film. This was because he couldn't figure out how to play the chords whilst walking and singing! During the film, you'll see him playing and singing 'Love You 'til The End' and 'Galway Girl'.

Answer: Chasing Mavericks

'Chasing Mavericks' was about Jay Moriaty, a teenager wanting to surf one of the biggest waves in the world, the Mavericks. He enlisted Frosty Hesson, whom Gerard starred as, to train him to survive it. During the filming of this, Gerard was hit by a wave and was repeatedly pulled under, for around a minute, in the surfing location known as The Boneyard in California.
