Montgomery is in the center of the state. In 1846 Montgomery became the "permanent" capital of Alabama.

The University of Alabama opened on April 13, 1831. There were fifty-two students and four teachers. The first president of the University was Reverend Alva Woods. At any Alabama ball game you will hear their fans yell, "Roll Tide".

When Alabama first started doing this they put a star in the upper right hand corner of the license. Currently the word Alabama is in white letters with a red background on the top. If a person is over 21 the background will be blue unless they hold a commercial license, then it will be purple. Alabama does not require you to put your social security number on your license unless you hold a commercial license.

The capital was moved from Montgomery to Richmond, Va on May 24, 1861. The Confederate White House is open to the public in Montgomery.

Desoto State Park, one of Alabama's 24 state parks, is located along the Little River in Northwestern Alabama. The park was named for the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. At Desoto State Park you will find Desoto Falls and Little River Canyon. Little River Canyon is one of the deepest gorges east of the Mississippi River.

This landmark built in 1833 originally housed the Tennessee Valley branch of the Bank of the State of Alabama. After the bank closed it was used for many things including a hospital during the Civil War. It was one of only three buildings that survived the burning of Decatur. You can still see the bullet holes and cannon marks left on the columns of the bank from the Civil War.
25. Is there a Coon Dog Cemetery in Alabama?

The cemetery is located in Northwest Alabama. It is located 4.5 miles off Alabama Highway 247 on Coon Dog Cemetery road, about midway between Red Bay and Tuscumbia.
