Answer: Moonstone

The moonstone was named the State Gemstone in 1970 in memory of the moon landing. All of the astronaut-controlled spaceflights were launched from Florida at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral.

Answer: Sabal Palm

The sabal palm is a very salt tolerant plant which has been used by Native Americans for centuries. Images of the sabal palm appear on the Great Seal of Florida. They have great hurricane resistance and withstand the heavy winds that accompany such storms.
3. What rare cat is Florida's State Animal?

Answer: Florida panther

In 1982 the Florida panther was selected as Florida's State Animal. This critically endangered cat lives in the woods and swamps of south Florida. Babies are spotted at birth but become tawny by one year. There are only 200-300 Florida panthers in the wild as of 2018.
4. Unknown to many, what is Florida's State soil?

Answer: Myakka Soil

Myakka soil is found in many of the low lying areas of Florida. This soil is grayish in color and is usually about five to six inches deep. This dirt makes for green pastures and better citrus farms. It is very permeable.
5. What sweet is the State Dessert of Florida?

Answer: Key lime pie

The Key lime pie is made from the juice of Key limes, grown in the Florida Keys. The juice from these limes is yellow rather than green. This pie came about because it uses sweetened condensed milk out of a can. This was important when refrigeration was not common in the Keys.

Answer: State Song

This is the State Song, written by Stephen C. Foster in 1851. It was selected as the State Song in 1935. This song is also known as "The Suwanee River", after a body of water that runs from the Okeefenokee Swamp in Georgia down to the Gulf of Mexico in Florida.

The Northern Mockingbird calls Florida home year around. This omnivorous bird is endemic to North America. It is known for its intelligence and for its ability to mimic other birds and sounds such as lawnmowers.
