1. Where in Europe could you find Salzkammergut, Wachau Valley and the Semmering Railway?

Answer: Austria

Salzkammergut, Wachau and the Semmering Railway are all Austrian UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The scenic alpine region of Salzkammergut lies to the east of Salzburg. Wachau is a pretty region with historic towns along the Danube Valley. The Semmering Railway completed in 1854 links Gloggnitz and Murzzuschlag in the east of the country.
2. In which European country can Lascaux Caves, Giverny and Vimy Ridge be found?

Answer: France

Lascaux in the Dordogne region of France is the site of Palaeolithic cave paintings. Giverny, in northern France, is the home of Claude Monet's garden where he took much inspiration for his paintings. Vimy Ridge can be found in the north of France. It is a large monument commemorating the Canadian soldiers lost during the battle for Vimy Ridge in World War I.
3. In which country are Icehotel, Kosterhavet and Marstrand located?

Answer: Sweden

Icehotel is in the village of Jukkasjarvi. Each year, a different artist designs a large hotel made from ice. Kosterhavet is a Swedish national marine park near Stromstad, and is home to deep water coral reefs, rare sea birds and harbour seals. Marstrand is a luxury seaside resort on the south-west coast of Sweden.

It hosts several annual sailing competitions including Match Cup Sweden.
4. Meteora, Cape Sounion and Santorini can all be found in the same European country. Where am I?

Answer: Greece

Meteora is a group of six mountaintop monasteries in central Greece. Cape Sounion in the south-east of the country is where the ruins of the Greek temple of Poseidon are located. Santorini is a picturesque volcanic island off mainland Greece with cliff-side towns and long sandy beaches.
5. Where in Europe would you find the Freedom Monument, Gauja National Park and the Venta Rapid?

Answer: Latvia

Riga in Latvia is home of the Freedom Monument, a 19 metre high memorial column with a copper statue of Liberty on top. The Gauja National Park is the largest national park in Latvia, situated towards the north-east of the country. It is situated along the Gauja River, with forests and sandstone cliffs being a major feature. Venta is the widest water rapid in Europe at up to 270 metres long, depending on water levels.

It is near the town of Kuldiga in the west of the country.
6. Which country in Europe is home to Saltaire, The Lanes, and the Jurassic Coast?

Answer: England

Saltaire is a UNESCO World Heritage Site near Bradford in England. Built in the Italianate style, the village has a historic textile mill and Victorian model village. The Lanes in Brighton is a picturesque shopping area in Brighton on the south-east coast.

The Jurassic Coast is on the south-west coast. The coastline stretches for 95 miles and has a geological landscape spanning the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous time periods.
7. In which European country can Hora Hoverla, Sofiyivsky Park and Yalta be located?

Answer: Ukraine

Hora Hoverla is the highest mountain in the Ukraine. Situated west of the country, it stands just over 2,000 metres high and is part of the Carpathian Mountain range. Sofiyivsky Park is a botanical park in the city of Uman and is a major Ukrainian research centre for different sciences. Yalta is a coastal resort at the south of the country, and was the 1945 meeting place of Franklin D Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin towards the end of World War II.
8. Batalha Monastery, Sintra and the Belem Tower can be found in which European country?

Answer: Portugal

In a small unassuming town between Lisbon and Porto stands the Batalha Monastery, a gothic style building built on epic proportions. Sintra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which lies on the cliffs of central-western Portugal. One of the main tourist spots is an imposing National Palace with turrets and crenellations. Belem Tower is a fortress completed in 1519, situated on the banks of the Tagus River just outside the city of Lisbon.
9. Pontcysyllte aqueduct, Portmeirion and the Wye Valley are all in the same European country. Where am I?

Answer: Wales

The Pontcysyllte aqueduct is a 38 metre high structure built by Thomas Telford which carries the Llangollen Canal for 307 metres. Portmeirion is a visitor attraction in the north of Wales featuring an Italianate style coastal resort. It featured in the 1960s television show, "The Prisoner".

The Wye Valley is a scenic area of natural beauty near to the Brecon Beacons National Park. It is situated close to the border between Wales and England.
10. Lake Balaton, Miskolctapolca Cave Bath and Pecs can be found in which European country?

Answer: Hungary

Lake Balaton in western Hungary is a large freshwater lake and a popular summer resort for locals. It has 147 miles of shore, making it attractive to swimmers, sailors and fishermen. Miskolctapolca is at the north-east of the country and is home to a natural thermal bath 150 metres long. Pecs is a city situated by the Mecsek mountains at the south of the country.

It was the European Capital of Culture in 2010, along with Istanbul.
