Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In movie 50, a fashion designer gets engaged to the Mayor of New York's son. The only problem... she isn't divorced from the husband she married in high school. What movie revolves around this woman's journey to her hometown?

Answer: Sweet Home Alabama

"Sweet Home Alabama" stars Reese Witherspoon as Melanie, Patrick Dempsey as her fiancée Andrew, Josh Lucas as Melanie's husband Jake and Candice Bergen as the mayor of New York City, Kate Hennings. Melanie returns to Alabama to get Jake to sign some divorce papers, but ends up getting arrested, getting drunk, and getting struck by lightning... but not divorced.
2. In movie 49, three waitresses at a Connecticut pizzeria try to navigate life in a small town. One dates a rich boy, one dates a man whose children she baby-sits for and the third tries to decide whether or not she wants to marry her longtime boyfriend. What 1988 movie is this?

Answer: Mystic Pizza

In "Mystic Pizza" two sisters, Kat (Annabeth Gish) and Daisy (Julia Roberts) along with their friend Jojo (Lili Taylor) all work in a pizza joint (called, of course, "Mystic Pizza") in Mystic, Connecticut. This is also the film debut of Matt Damon (who plays the little brother of Daisy's boyfriend, and has one line in the film) and Vincent D'Onofrio as Jojo's fiancée, whom she leaves at the altar.
3. In movie 48, an exchange student from Africa tries to infiltrate her high school's most notorious clique "The Plastics". What 2004 teen-centered film is this?

Answer: Mean Girls

This movie staring Lindsay Lohan as exchange student Cady Heron, is written by and co-stars "Saturday Night Live" writer Tina Fey. It is also the breakthrough performance for Rachel McAdams as Regina George, the leader of "The Plastics".
4. In movie 47, a cheer-ific comedy, Torrance Shipman leads the Rancho Carne cheerleaders to the National finals, in hopes of crushing their opponents the East Compton Clovers who have accused them of stealing their cheers.

Answer: Bring it On

"Bring it On" stars Kirsten Dunst as plucky cheerleader Torrance who becomes cheer-captain, is cheated on by her cheer-boyfriend and finds love with an un-cheery loner named Cliff.
This movie also teaches us that "Cheerleaders are dancers who have gone retarded" and cheers like "That's all right. That's OK! You're gonna pump our gas someday!"
5. Movie 46, a 1999 teen comedy, is based on a Shakespearean play. In the film, Bianca Stratford can't go out on a date until her older sister Kat does, but Kat has no interest in dating. So Bianca's potential boyfriends pay a guy to take out Kat in hopes that Bianca will be allowed out of the house as well.

Answer: 10 Things I Hate About You

Julia Stiles and Larisa Oleynik star as sisters Kat and Bianca in this comedy based on Shakespeare's "Taming of The Shrew" (the "shrew" being Kat, of course). Bianca's two suitors Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Joey (Andrew Keegan) work together to get notorious bad boy Patrick (Heath Ledger in one of his first starring roles) to take out Kat in hopes that Bianca will choose one of her suitors to be her prom date.
6. In movie 45, based on Terry McMillan's novel of the same name, we see the lives of four African American women as they try to deal with the men in their lives. Angela Basset is one of the stars.

Answer: Waiting to Exhale

This movie centers around the love lives of Savannah (Whitney Houston), Bernie (Angela Bassett), Gloria (Lorretta Devine) and Robin (Lela Rochon) as they try to make sense of life. Forest Whitaker directs. This is one of the few movies on the list that I haven't seen but from what I've heard, it's a great movie (must be, if it's on this list).
7. In movie 44, Annie Banks is getting married, but problems arise as the expenses go through the roof, her father steals her future in-laws' checkbook and falls in their pool, and it snows in California on Annie's wedding day.

Answer: Father of The Bride

"Father of The Bride" (1991) stars Kimberly Williams as bride-to-be Annie, and Steve Martin and Diane Keaton as her parents George and Nina. The ladies try to plan the perfect wedding (with help from Martin Short as wedding planner Franck), while Dad looks for ways to cut corners.
This was followed by a sequel four years later wherein both Annie and her mother are pregnant and give birth on the same day.
8. In movie 43, Andie Anderson and Ben Barry are a couple with competing agendas, she's trying to dump him, while he's trying to get her to fall in love with him.

Answer: How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days

In this 2003 comedy Andie (Kate Hudson) is attempting to write an article on how to get a guy to dump you in ten days, while Ben (Matthew McConaughey) has just made a bet that he can get any woman to fall in love with him in ten days. With competing agendas they end up driving each other insane, and just maybe falling in love with one another.
9. In movie 42, Drew Barrymore heads back to high school to uncover the seedy underbelly of South Glen High School. She goes from geek to chic and may just find the man of her dreams in her English teacher, Mr Coulson.

Answer: Never Been Kissed

This 1999 movie is the first produced by Drew Barrymore's company Flower Films. It costars David Arquette, Molly Shannon, Michael Vartan and Jessica Alba (before they got famous).
Barrymore's character is an undercover reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times, and gets a second chance at high school. She starts out as a terrible loser but soon makes her way up to prom queen and part of the hottest clique in school.
10. In movie 41, a sweet romance blossoms between Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche's characters as she opens a shop in France in the 1960s. At first the town shuns her and her daughter, but Depp as the river pirate helps them find acceptance.

Answer: Chocolat

The mother and her daughter not only sell chocolates during Lent (a religious fast) but refuse to go to Sunday services! They create quite an uproar in this small town, but soon the moral is revealed, what is different isn't always bad.

Hope you liked part 1 of this quiz! Look for parts 2, 3, 4 and 5 which contain the remaining movies.
